Smoked mullet road trip
I dearly love smoked mullet, but finding whole smoked fish is getting more difficult. I would like to do a road trip from Crystal River to Pensacola to find unique restaurants "fish camps" that still smoke their own fish. The colder the beer the better. Also, is there a better season to do this?
What to do with leftover ribeyes
After grilling a bunch of ribeye steaks for a party, I ended up with two leftover (fully cooked). I put them in the frig and I'm now trying to figure out a way to use the meat (about 1.5 pounds) for another meal. Any suggestions?
Looking for foodie restaurants in historic Charleston
The Charleston City Paper has just come out with it's winter DISH publication. You can view it on their website. It lists all the "good" restaurants in town and a little write up on each. I personally think FIG is probably this best in town now, but there are plenty of really good chefs in under the radar places. Just depends on your taste.
Costco food finds - 1st quarter 2012 [old]
In Charleston SC they have been carrying Papillion Brand Roquefort cheese from France. It is to die for, Apparently the embargo on Roquefort cheese has been lifted, because when we visited the caves last year they said that they could not export cheese to the US. Something to do with beef treated with hormones from Texas to France.
Venison cube steak recipes needed
I am looking for some ways to prepare cube steak that don't involve flouring and frying first. Chicken fried steak is the rule here in the South. I am looking for a more healthy alternative.
BBQ Chicken with vinegar sauce
For years I have been making a vinegar based basting sauce for chicken. I mix cider vinegar, a little red wine vinegar, garlic salt, black pepper and tabasco sauce (to taste). Nothing special but it really works on grilled chicken. Just baste as it cooks (1 hour for thighs). I always brine my chicken before cooking.
Castelrotto area options
We have decided to travel to Castelrotto next Spring in mid-May. Any suggestions of restaurants and hotels in the area? We are having trouble finding out what places will be even be open at that time of year. We will have a car so we will be day tripping through the area for about 5 days throughout the region. Great lunch spots would be appreciated, but recommendations in Castelrotto for dinner are needed. We don't want to drive much after having wine with our meal.
What to drink with Italian Frying Peppers
Thanks for all the suggestions. Bubbly it is - Prosecco and Cava. I am serving both Padron and Corno de Toro varieties of peppers.
What to drink with Italian Frying Peppers
Just sauteed a batch of frying peppers and was trying to figure out the best beverage to serve with them for a primo course. Thought about cava. Would love some suggestions for a pairing.
Best Foodie Base Camp in Provence
We stayed for several nights in St Remy last Fall. Our hotel was the Hotel van Gogh. It was just off the main part of town and a 5 minute walk. It was very reasonably priced at under $100 a night with breakfast. Rooms were simple but nice. English is spoken by the staff. Pool and protected parking is free. Loved the town with many nice basic restaurants and shops. Check out the perfume museum and the Joël Durand Chocolate Shop. Travel from there is easy to most areas of Provence for day trips. Don't miss Les Baux.
Dining recs in Trentino/Alto Adige?
Our plans are far from finalized, but I suspect that we would stay in the Bressanone area. We will be traveling by car from Munich with the primary objective of touring the Dolomites and west to Como for about 10 days. We prefer to sample the local foods and try to stay away from the Michelin stars places in favor of small family restaurants that cater to locals. We just want to insure that if we travel in the general area at that time of year roads will be open and restaurants running. We like to stay at tourist farms or B&Bs.
Dining recs in Trentino/Alto Adige?
We are considering going to this area in early May next year. Are hotels and restaurants open at time of the year?
Cooking pollock filets
I have some frozen pollock filets and need some recipe suggestions. Last ones I cooked just fell apart in the skillet.
Best Bar(s) in Downtown Charleston
Husk Bar is great. Like an old speakeasy. No rowdy college crowd. Best bartender in town.
Dinner in St Pete
Thanks for all the recommendations. Sounds like tapas is the best bet. Just spent some time in Northern Spain, so that will be perfect. We get plenty of good seafood here in South Carolina.
Dinner in St Pete
Going to St Pete soon and staying at the Hampton Inn downtown near Al Lang Field. Any suggestions on places nearby to walk too.
Dog Friendly Anythng & Everything in charleston, SC
Parson Jack's restaurant off Glenn McConnell Parkway is very dog friendly. Has a fenced area outside and the food is good at a reasonable price. We go there all the time. There is a County Park just down the same road.

Downtown Savannah Lunch
Looking for a good lunch spot near the riverfront. I'v e been to most of the old spots in town - Pink house, 3 sons, etc. Anything new and worth a try? Doesn't have to be white table cloth, just good food preferably using local ingredients at a reasonable price.
Help with a shopping list while in New Orleans
Go by the Konriko store and pick up some Greek and Creole seasoning. Much better than Tony's IMHO. Also a bag of popcorn rice from the Central Grocery. Have a Muffelata while you are there.
Puerco Pibil recipe substitution
How much achiote paste should I substitute for 5 T of annato seeds in this recipe?

Barcelona basics needed
We will be staying at the Hostel Goya near Placa Catalunya this fall. Any recommendations on tapas bars and Catalan restaurants close by. Always prefer the local hangouts with traditional food over the expensive tourist places.
Wonderful gastronomic restaurant in Basque country
By chance did you stay at Hotel Mendi Aide while there. We will be traveling through the region in Oct and thought about staying there. If not, any other recommendations for a nice room around there. We prefer staying in small local hotels or B&Bs. Sounds like this restaurant should not be missed.
Reading Tapas menus
Heading for Spain in a few weeks, and only have a limited ability to speak Spanish. Heaven help Basque and Catalan. Can someone help me with some key words and phrases to help me decipher the menus over there. I want to make up a "reference sheet" to carry with me. At 65 my memory is not that reliable. I feel it is important to at least try and communicate in the local language, when I travel. Maybe there is a website that I could use to help me to decipher basic food terms.
Street foods in Northern Spain
While tapas and molecular gastronomy are great, I still like the idea of food carts and their treats. So can I expect to find them in the cities and what are the recommendations as to what to try. I love to try different sausages and grilled or fried seafood, as well as the ubiquitous internal parts of various animals. We'll be traveling there in late September.
Only One Dinner in Ocean City
Been in OC for a couple of days now. Ate lunch at Smitty Mcgees on Rt 54 at lunch. Great place with lots of locals. Had a grilled rockfish sandwich and wife had the tuna nachos which were amazing. Last night we ate at the Crab Bag. All you can eat crabs and corn for$25. Crabs were excellent and highly seasoned (very fat mediums) and the corn so sweet no butter was needed. Service was good. Good beer and drink selections. Think we will try Tequila Mockingbird for lunch today for a change of pace. Still trying to decide on dinner. Maybe Catch 54.

Only One Dinner in Ocean City
All those recommendations sound good. What are the best spots in North OC or Fenwick? We are headed up there next week. We don't want to have to drive far after a drink or 2.
And where do you get these Meyer Lemon trees? AAAGH
You have an excellent source for all kinds of tropical fruit trees near you in Scranton, SC. McKenzie Farms can provide you with all your needs. Prices are very reasonable ($20 or so) You might want to try a Harvey lemon which is much more cold tolerant. http://mckenzie-farms.com is the web site to go to or call (843)-389-4831. Stan has been a great help to me and my son with lemons and mandarins. A lot of his varieties are cold tolerant down to the mid-teens so you may even be able to plant some outside with winter protection.
Provence on a budget
I would say that sightseeing is probably the primary reason for the trip, but we all appreciate good food and wine and want to experience the local quisine. Your suggestion was much appreciated.
