Fogo de Chao

No farofa. (I don't mind because I don't like it, but my husband missed it.)

Anything worthwhile in Germantown?

Anyone have good suggestions for great chow in Germantown, MD? We just recently moved there...and obviously it lacks compared to the Rockville area, but there has to be something, right? :)

Thanks

Jimmy John's [moved from Midwest]

We had a Jimmy Johns near my college campus (Bowling Green)...and let me tell you. It was the most popular place around.

Applebee's and Tyler Florence??? What is happening?

I couldn't agree more. I know Chowhound is not meant to be snobby, but sometimes it feels that way. C'mon, people who live in more remote areas LIKE Applebee's and Olive Garden and WILL drive a little ways to go there.

If I see Batali hawking for anything I'll avoid it like the plague. I can't stand that guy.

OK...So, it was the Cheesecake Factory....

I suppose I'm not enough of a hardcore hounder either because I think CF is good. I've *never* eaten something I didn't like there. I think the variety is part of what makes it so appealing.

The wait is excruciating. When it's one hour + as is sometimes is around me, it's not worth it.

And I even think the cheesecake is good.

....don't kill me...

Greenfield vs. Fogo de Chao churrascaria

Oh, okay. I'll look back. It seems like Fogo is the clear winner.

Greenfield vs. Fogo de Chao churrascaria

Anyone been to both and open to discussing? I married into a Brazillian family and churrascarias are the biggest deal to them. I've been to Greenfield so I know the story there.

Thoughts?

Carraba's - Do they all have the same menus?

You should know better than to ask a waiter at Carrabba's for wine tips...

Balyeat's in VanWert, Ohio

You're kidding me! What a little tucked away place is that? I used to live near there...now live on East Coast. How random. Everyone always said it was good. Never went.

What's the strangest, or best, food you have eaten at a State Fair, stadium, or other outdoor venue?

Deep fried pickles. Absolutely divine. And elephant ears. (big sugary flat pieces of dough deep fried and hit with cin/sugar. I'm drooling.

Carraba's - Do they all have the same menus?

Yeah, that is possible. Maybe you are in the same wholesale area. That would explain it...

The Counter - what is better than deep-fried pickles with apricot sauce?

I'm from Ohio and have been posting about deep-fried pickles elsewhere--trying to find them around DC because I love them so much. A good deep-fried pickle requires no sauce BUT a ranch-type dip is best. I even love ketchup on them.

Agreed. Melting Pot is a good place. I also agree that checking the web site before going is pretty much a no-brainer.

Carraba's - Do they all have the same menus?

I have never once experienced anything inedible at Carrabba's. It's really one of my favorite chains. Never had a bad night at the ones I've gone to and I'm a repeat visitor.

Lima, Ohio - food suggestions

Oh! I have been to Kewpee! It really is the best fast food imaginable! It is soooo good. I forgot about that. Thanks

Your Favorite Chain Burger

Fuddruckers is the place for a good burger. Or Five Guys.

The idea of cooking your food turned you off? Then what are you doing going to a fondue place???

The menu was confusing because you didn't know what you were looking at...I just went there for the first time in June and had no issues. It can be overwhelming, agreed, but I wouldn't say they have done a horrible job laying out their menu or making things easy to understand.

Carraba's - Do they all have the same menus?

I've been to two in Ohio (Toledo and Columbus) and one in Maryland. Their menus were similar--but never with small portions or something gross or low-end. You must have hit a bad night.

Patronizing SUBWAY and being a Chowhound should be Taboo

But, ass scent aside, a piece of pizza will not do for someone like me who likes to watch what she eats. A low-fat sandwich at Subway WILL fit the bill.

Maggiano's - um, lots of quantity

Good to know. Why? Because I don't particularly care for Macaroni Grill and I really dislike Chili's.
