Vietnamese Delights, Fremont report w/ pics
Went here for lunch with a friend today (Saturday). Not too many customers, as there were only about 3 tables that were occupied. We both got their garlic noodle dish. This was my first time trying a garlic noodle dish, so I don't have a frame of reference to compare this to, other than other types of noodle dishes that I like. I got it with pork chop. My friend got it with grilled garlic shrimp.
Upon initial impression when the food was brought to us, we were both impressed with their portions, as they give you a pretty good amount of food. Noodles were plentiful. My friend counted approximately 8 or 9 shrimps in her dish. My pork chop was good and there was a good amount of it - seasoned well and it went well with the noodles. My friend liked her shrimp also. The noodles, while pretty good - I found too be slightly on the oily side. Also, we both noticed in our dishes that the noodles were slightly undercooked. It wasn't to the point where it ruined our dishes, but there were definitely a few strands that were just slightly undercooked. Other than that, the flavor of the noodles were mild - nothing overpowering and pretty good. We were both full from our dishes.
I also got a Five Spice Chicken Sandwich to go, as I wanted to try their sandwiches. I ended up eating the sandwich for dinner, so it definitely wasn't better than if I had eaten it when I first got it. The bread and condiments were all very fresh. I liked the cucumbers in this sandwich better than other cucumbers at other Vietnamese sandwich shops I've tried, as it was sweeter and had a more robust flavor. Like the poster above said, they do give you a good amount of chicken. While the name of the sandwich suggests that it is spicy and very flavorful, I found the sandwich to be quite the opposite. While it wasn't bad, I found it a little on the bland side, as I couldn't really taste the spices.
Overall, I didn't find this place to be amazing or anything, but it did serve solid food. I'll definitely go back and the next time I go, I want to try their pho and see how that compares. The owners were also very friendly and service was very good.
Good Chinese beef noodle soup in the San Mateo area?
I've gone there twice now, and both times, the food has been very good. This is going to be a regular spot for me from now on. Thanks for the tip, KK.

How spicy were the House special Sichuan cold noodles, Melanie? I can handle only about mild spice in my food. Is this super hot?
Miso Ramen @ Izakaya Mai in San Mateo
Will do. Santa (pre - move) was very, very good. I haven't been there recently, but my coworkers told me they've gone downhill ever since the move, so I've stopped going there. I thought Oidon was good, nothing spectacular, but solid ramen.
Good Chinese beef noodle soup in the San Mateo area?
Hi all -
New poster here, so go easy on me. :)
When I was in the Rowland Heights area a few months ago, I stumbled across the most amazing Chinese beef noodle soup I've ever tasted.

I have yet to find one that matches the quality of No. 1 Noodle House and was wondering if anyone has stumbled across any authentic, very good Chinese beef noodle soup shops in the bay area - specifically, in the San Mateo area, as that is where I work. If you know of any that's not in the San Mateo area, that's fine, too, but I'm mainly looking for someplace close to my work.
Thanks all!

Wow, thanks for taking the time to rank 58 (!!!) Ramen places, Melanie! I've only tried 2 of the restaurants from your list (Santa Ramen and Oidon) and am looking forward to trying more from your list. Thank you! :)
