Robert Weidmaier's Mussel Bar
Ate at Mussel Bar on Friday night. Won't go back. I accepted the 40-45 minute wait (it was 6pm) but was surprised when they asked us to check back after the first 20 minutes. I did. They said the wait would be 20-25 minutes. Duh. I asked her why they wanted us to check back. She said that it was so they could see if we were still interested. Strange. Not too user friendly. I would have gone someplace else to have a drink if I hadn't needed to check back. Anyway...it took forever to get our drinks. (The restaurant is half bar.) The waiter was so rushed that he thought we only ordered one order of mussels/fries. They brought that and said it would only take 3 minutes to get the second order. About 10 minutes later, the second order came. The place was incredibly noisy. The mussels were good but at $16, I will likely get mussels at other places - Black's or Et Voila or Cafe du Parc. Bethesda may not have the best restaurants but there are other decent choices. I tried...
j&G Steakhouse?
And the service is fabulous. Ask for chairs though unless someone is really tall - the banquets are really weird. They bring pillows to sit against, if you ask.
Any word on Provence in Bethesda?
There was a comment or two after the opening. Has anyone else been there yet? I am thinking of it for my husband's birthday in early May but would like a little more feedback. Food? Service? Thanks.
Frozen Yogurt By The Ounce
New one in Bethesda. Don't know the name. Only spent $2.75. You can add toppings also. Not on Bethesda Avenue. On the next street next to Mama Lucia's
Goldberg's Bagels coming to Silver Spring?
Could you please tell me the location of the Rockville branch?
Thanks.
Gourmet Mexican in/near Bethesda?
Guapo's on Wisconsin Ave. is consistently good. Not gourmet but good, reliable food. Shrimp are really good.
Brunch near Central Park
Can anyone recommend a moderately priced brunch for a Sunday? Preferably, not in a hotel...Thanks.
Lobster in DC?
Wong Gee Asian or New Kam Fong? Just noticed in today's Gazette that Wong Gee Asian has the same special as New Kam Fong. Other specialities (noodle dishes and barbecue) seem to be similar. Any reports on Wong Gee Asian as compared to New Kam Fong? Thanks
Pizza slice in theater district
Can anyone recommend a place where I can get 50's-style pizza by the slice in the theater district. Thanks.
Angeethi in Herndon - Report
I had a meal there in February. It was bad. The "fresh" vegetables in the curry were canned peas and carrots. A real misrepresention. A branch just opened in Bethesda (where I live). It won't be on my list.
Help a NYer: Places to eat near Rockville/Gaithersburg
Sorry, not too much for New Yorkers. I am one myself and the pickings are slim here. I wouldn't recommend Zios. There is a place called Giuseppes that has good pizza. Mama Lucia also has good pizza. Both NY style. I think Il Pizzico may still be good. I agree with Bombay Bistro and was impressed tihe the Peruvian restaurant in Town Center. You may have to go further toward DC to get better food. I
Ambiance question, merci
Unfortunately, Fontaine de Mars was on my short list before the Obamas ate there. I currently have a reservation on the main floor for a Saturday night in early July at 9:15. I could change it to a Tues or Wed. Would the experience be "better" during the week? We like bistros but also want to have good service and not a totally crazed atmosphere.
We also have a reservation at Le Reminet which I know is quieter. Could anyone tell me if Josephine Chez Dumonet, Fish, and Le Ferrrandaise are closer in atmosphere to Reminet or something like Allard. Thank you.
Have you been to Allard recently?
OK. I'll skip it. Any idea where I can get frogs legs? (Although I am going to New York City this weekend and am eating at a French restaurant that serves them. This may satisfy my frogs legs urge...) Thanks.
A basque tour
Jrrugby,
Can you please tell me the approximate cost per person for your lunch meal at Martin Berasatgeui? Do you know how much dinner might be? Thanks.
Arbelaitz in San Sebastian
I will be in SS in July. This restaurant was recommended to me. I think the chef may have been at another restaurant before he opened his own place. Can anyone tell me if they have eaten here? I am looking for a restaurant that is excellent but not stuffy or more than $100 per person. Thanks.
Moderate Italian: I've got three suggestions
Around $75-per person including drinks. A fun neighborhood would be good. Any comments on my three ideas?
Moderate Italian: I've got three suggestions
I'll be in the city in mid-May and am looking for an Italian restaurant that won't totally break the bank but with really good food.(Could I trust the veal?) I've got three suggestions: Marinella, Perbacco and Supper. Could anyone please recommend one over another? Thanks in advance.
Wild Orchid Cafe Annapolis?
Had the worst experience there. Mainly with the service. The waitress actually lied to us about what came with the meal. When I realized it - after the fact, I called the owner and his comment was "Well, I will take her off dinners and put her back on the lunch shift." He didn't care about the customer. I won't frequent or recommend a restaurant that does something like this. I also remembet someone else saying that their service was horrible.
Have you been to Allard recently?
I'm going to give it another try...especially since frogs legs are still on the menu! Thanks.
Have you been to Allard recently?
I will be in Paris during July and would like to eat at Allard because they have frogs legs (I hope they still have them?) My husband has never been a fan of Allard so I am hoping that it will still be a good food experience. I know the atmosphere is bustling but that is ok. Thanks.
San Sebastian...Akelare
I will be in SS in July. Am thinking about going to Akelare for lunch. Can anyone give me an idea of what the cost might be for two? Do they only offer tasting menus at lunch or can you order a la carte? Thanks.
Toulouse on Sun and Mon
I recently heard that "most" restaurants are closed in Toulouse on Sundays and Mondays. Unfortunately, I will be in Toulouse in July for only two days - yes, a Sunday and Monday! Can anyone tell me if I will really having a problem finding a good restaurant? I would make a reservation way in advance if there I only have a few options. I am thinking about restaurants that range from 30 to 50 euro per person. Thank you.
