Please give me some advise on choosing a coffee maker
If you're wanting drip coffee, you can't beat a chemex. It's a bit more involved than your normal drip brewer, but the taste cannot be beat.
If you're wanting a very versatile, cheap, 1-4 cup brewer, get an Aeropress. It makes a very clean shot of espresso (It'll do up to 4 at a time), It's very cheap, but requires about twice the coffee of an espresso maker, and four times the amount you would use for a normal drip brewer, which is a large downside.
There are lots of fans of French Presses also, but I personally don't like them because you have to keep a bit of coffee in the bottom of your cup because there is always a bit of grounds in the coffee.
Rum that you can sip??
Sailor Jerry's is good, it's a little heavy on the vanilla, but good.
Is it safe to eat really old preserves?
Crack one open and smell it. I'd be surprised if they hadn't gone bad if they're that old.
Cast Iron on Ceramic Cooktop?
Thanks, there is surprisingly little information out there about this combination.
Cast Iron on Ceramic Cooktop?
We have a stove with a ceramic cooktop. Is it safe to use enameled cast iron on it without scratching the cooktop?
Your favorite BBQ sauce
If Headcountry is available in your area I suggest trying it. I know everyone is going to suggest making your own. Try Headcountry, it's a great BBQ sauce.
cleaning carbon steel pans
No metal should ever be taken directly from heat to water. It's a recipe for warped pans, and ruined coatings.
Cake Always Falls
Try more water and less baking powder. You're at a higher altitude so baking is funky.
Freezing baked cookies?
I don't think that there would technically be a problem with this, they sell frozen cakes, frozen brownies and frozen cookies.
They may not taste as good, and the cookies may become soggy because of condensation.
I would just freeze the dough in balls, and thaw the dough balls when you are ready to bake. Dough thaws very quickly, and fresh baked cookies are always better.
Fruit-on-the-bottom Yogurt: To Stir, or Not to Stir?
I don't usually mix them, I prefer to keep them separated. If you want really good yogurt, (if you can find it) Brown Cow cream top yogurt is the best yogurt I've ever had.
Where can I get grain alcohol?
It's usually under the name "Everclear", it should be available at any liquor store unless there are weird liquor laws restricting it.
