I'd hit The Driftwood Winery;
Trattoria Lissini (near Driftwood)
Salt Lick(Driftwood)
Hill Top(just outside F-berg)
Grape Juice(Kerrville)
Hondo's on Main(F-berg)

Montopolis Upscale?

Catfish Parlour of Patsy's on 71 is about as upscale as you will get 'round there.

Goose Fat

You might try the guy at the downtown Farmers Market that sells fresh goose-

Foodie Challenge 40th B'day

I spent my 50th at Chez Nous with friends, and it was phenomenal. Small and cozy, yet first class food and service. French rustic is how I'd describe their food, but no stuffiness here.

Looking for Oysters Rockefeller in Austin

They're not called Oysters Rockefeller at Vespaio-they are called Ostriche al Forno con Spinici e Crema al Pernod, but they take it to a new level!

Four dudes come to Austin for a Guy's weekend...where to eat..and drink?

For a bar I'd recommend the Ginger Man-83 taps, nice atmosphere-nice patio-300 Lavaca.
Zax Pints & Plates has steaks and veggie fare-Barton Springs@Riverside.
Threadgill's for music, Chicken Fried Steak, although they have lost some lustre over the years-across the street from Zax.

Brunching on Eggs Benedict in Austin

The Bakehouse on Manchaca has excellent Eggs B also. Can't vouch for the rest of the menu, but breakfast is great.

Looking for nice, sit-down restaurant in Central/South Austin

I would recommend Zax on Barton Springs/Riverside. The have an excellent and reasonable brunch, lunch and dinner menu. Bright, roomy, and one of my go-to places.

Ho Ho Chinese BBQ open

I liked Ho Ho too. BBQ pork was great, as was the marinated chicken.
Guessing that since Peking is now called Beijing...
(But somehow, I missed Bombay being changed to Mombai-whattup w/ all these cities changing names anyway?)

Ho Ho Chinese BBQ (NEW)

Stopped in for lunch and checked out the BBQ Pork and Marinated Chicken. It's right up there with Din Ho and First Chinese, with the ducks hanging, etc. Good news for us S. Austinites-they also own China Hill, Westgate @ Wm. Cannon, and Ho Ho Supplies China Hill with BBQ Pork!(they were out last night :o(
Ho Ho is almost near to Pflgville on the in-bound side, Walmart parking lot. There's also a Vietnamese, Thai, and Indian place nearby. Must continue research at Din Ho and First Chinese to see who's is best.

P.Terry's #3

Saw a new one under construction on Wm. Cannon just west of Mopac. It looked like it is a month or so away from opening.

Fine Dining Solo

Thanks for the suggestions. I shall post after I get back on where I ended up going.

Fine Dining Solo

I'll be in DC next Friday and am looking for a nice place that has bar dining, as I will be traveling solo. I will be downtown/C.Hill, and was looking at $100-150. Maybe a multi-course tasting menu. I wanted to hit Minibar, but it was full long ago. Never been to DC. Also a good place for lunch while checking out the Smithsonian.

Good eats in area of Brodie / Slaughter / Wm. Cannon / Manchaca

I love the breakfasts at Casa Garcia-excellent chilaquies. Also in the same center is Hao-Hao-great Vietnamese. Both are at Wm.C @ Manshak. Also heard good things about:
Cypress Grille
Evangeline
And you must checkout Giddy Ups-cheap beer on Manchaca near Slaughter

BBQ CATERING IN AUSTIN

I can vouch for Austin Barbecue Company-David Terrell (DT) is one of the best local barbecuers around:

No beer at Arbor Walk

I'm pretty sure Mighty Fine has bottle beer, albeit crappy beer.

Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Sunday Fair???

I've been many times, and you will have no problem with the kids, there's a kid tent, and live music too. I would recommend getting there when the gates open, as it can get a little crowded later on.

Austin Burger Smackdown!

I would say that you should try one of the burgers at Zax Pints & Plates. ANd Central Market Cafe on the Run makes a decent thicker burger.

sxsw help please!

I second the Moonshine Buffet. A lot of buffets suck due to food getting dried out, overdone-theirs does not. Smaller pans, and replaced frequently, and a lot of good stuff!

Best Posole and Cabrito in Austin?

Joe Ely's wife, Sharon, sells a great pozole (not red, but not really white either) at Sunset Valley Farmers Market, along with her homemade cornbread. It's called Holy Pozole.

Who has the best authentic Mexican torta in Austin?

La Mexicana on S. 1st. They rock! The bread is baked right there, and I'd vote for them.

Lobster Restaurants

Din Ho usually has live Lobsters and Dungeness Crab in the restaurant. Not sure how much, but I'm sure it's proabbly cheaper than Truluck's. Maybe Quality Seafood too.
