City Island?

Hey Hounders - any recommendations for City Island? I don't mind the touristy factor - I'm just out to do something a little different on a Saturday night. Where would you go and why?

Philly recommendations

I am going to be in Philadelphia a week from Saturday and I'll be looking for a great meal. What does the board recommend?

I'm not worried so much about price and would like to enjoy a great meal and a pleasant night out - what's new, what's interesting and where would you go for a special evening?

Dining after 10 PM in DC?

Thanks everyone - these are all terrific options which all sound perfect. Thank you again.

Dining after 10 PM in DC?

I am going to be attending the opera in Washington this coming Saturday night. It's an early curtain which will put me back out on the streets looking for a light dinner. Do DC hounders have any recommendations for late night (10:30 - 11?) light supper in DC?

DC recommendations

Thanks, all, for the great recommendations and comments - I really appreciate it! I hope to decide in the next couple of days where I'm going to end up...

DC recommendations

I will be in Washington DC on October 31 and I'm interested in enjoying a nice, adult dinner. Price isn't really an object. I'd love to hear some local recommendations - what's new, what's interesting? What do you consider a terrific night out?

Thanks!

Does anyone on the board know if the old Minetta Tavern has finally closed?

Romantic (inexpensive) dinner in East Village?

There is a new charming French spot called Antibes at 127 1st Avenue that would completely fit your bill. Hearty French food, a 30 pre fixe and lovely service.

Baltimore Recommendation

Hello:

I will be visiting Baltimore from New York to attend a performance at the Baltimore Opera. I have two questions for the board:

1) Is there an interesting place to eat which will be open late on a Friday evening (as in post-performance?) - It doesn't have to be haute cuisine - a great dinner or pub will do!

2) On Saturday evening I hope to have a great dining experience with price not really an object? Where should I go for a wonderful dinner in Baltimore?

Thanks.

Jones Street Help

Can someone tell me the name of the joint which replaced Inside on Jones Street? I've been racking my brains to come up with it and it's just not there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bulgaria in Long Island City or Sunnyside

Also - any fine recos for interesting cuisine in Sunnyside, Queens?

Thanks.

Dinner in Theater District for 2 (not a date); Moderate (<$45 pp)

I like Roberto Passon on 9th at 50th. If you are doing a full on dinner (drinks, two or three courses, etc.) it can get a little expensive. However, I have gone to Roberto after the theater, enjoyed a nice pasta and a glass for good wine for around 45 a person.

A little less upscale but lovely is Amerone (Amarone?) at around 46th on the East side of 9th. Solid to good italian, responsable wine list and pleasant. Not bad at all.

Upper East Side Bistro w/big beer menu

All - I need a reminder here - what is the name of the brassiere on the Upper East side which features the extensive French and Belgian beer menu? I remember it got decent press cover and a kind Bruni review within the last year. Reminder please!

Thanks.

District on 46th?

Greetings Hounders...

I am curious if anyone has been to District in the Muse hotel lately. I've got some entertaining to do next week, and District is in the perfect location. How is it? Is the food any good? Price range? Can you have an adult conversation there without shreiking? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Wedding Suggestions

Several years ago, I went to a great wedding at Village on 9th Street. You should check it out - there is a front bar and a lovely double height dining room in the back.

Is Ametller (sp?) still open?

Does anyone know if this little joint on Christopher Street is still open? Eater.com says it's closed, a friend in 'hood says it's not. It is too cold to wander around aimlessly this evening so any input would be greatly appreciated!

Great Italian Food w/ Good (up-lifting) Ambiance

Ok - I know that it's come in for some mixed reviews here, but I love BellaVitea, on Minetta Lane as well. Some caveats: You might call to make sure their brick oven is functional. The other night it was not effectively canceling out half the menu. While they have a very interesting Italian wine list, this is not the place for a cocktail (very few spirits are on offer). You might start with a cocktail at the bar at Minetta's and then head down the lane for food at BellaVitea.

Lower LOWER East Side

Does anyone have an interesting Sunday brunch recommendation for the Grand Street area FAR East side? Should I turn to Chinatown, or might someone be able to direct me to a cozy spot in the area?

Looking for a Uniquely New York Restaurant

Ok - some hardcore foodies might jump on me for this, but I've got a real soft spot for the Minetta Tavern on MacDougal and Minetta Lane. I've had some decent meals there, but I enjoy it even more for the nice cocktails and the ambiance. The place hasn't changed a wit since its glory days of Joseph Mitchell, Broadway hoofers and village eccentrics. I love taking out-of-towners there as it captures a nice bit of mid-20th Century nostalgia perfectly.

Top 5 Burgers

Royal on Avenue C is pretty fine as well. The burgers are a little on the small side, but priced accordingly. You can easly enjoy a nice nosh and a pint for about 11 or 12 bucks. Not bad!

Fort Greene Recommendation

I'd like to meet some friends in Fort Greene for a nice holiday/get-together dinner. The requirements? They follow:

A full bar, a menu featuring food for both carnivores and vegetarians, seating for eight, and an adult environment that lends itself to conversation. Price is not really an issue here (50 to 60 a head about covers it).

I've lost track of what's going on in Fort Greene and welcome any and all advice!

Thanks.

West 20's recommendation

So...what's new and fun in the West 20's? I'm taking an Angeleno out for dinner on Saturday evening and would like the meal to encompass the following: good food, nice drinks, decent wine listen, adult, NOT LOUD and new (ish) to the scene. What would the fellow hounds recommend?

Boca Chica?

Ok food - but bring a megaphone with you - it's one of the loudest joints in town.

Hudson Cafeteria lately?

I had a late night snack there about three weeks ago. The service was very accomodating, and the food was good if not outrageously memorable. It's exactly what I would have expected from a well thought out hotel dining room. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't doing cartwheels through the lobby afterwards, either.

My party made up the only diners in the entire room. It was before 11 in the evening and the space was empty. I guess the fickle night-lifers have moved on!

Cappucine Recommendations (2nd Ave and 19th St?)

I was always curious about this place and eventually tried it about a year ago. It's as though someone took a medicore Italian joint, circa 1965 and sealed it in aspic. Eating here is more of a novelty item than a culinary experience. Not entirely sure how they manage to continuing functioning!
