Looking for great pizza place in Sherman Oaks/Studio City Area
Oakfire pizza actually is really delicious, just more California style than NY, which is what I'm on the search for. Plus they have a great LATE happy hour if you have evening cravings - pepperoni pizza for $5! BTW, the one on La Cienega has CLOSED!

Nope. Unless you want a square pie, thick dense crust. I think people love Barone's because of their thick-sliced pepperoni, but other than that, pretty greasy.

EXCELLENT - Pepe's just had a Groupon or Living Social special that I bought because I wanted to give them a try (I'm from Queens too - now I'm excited!).

Will give those a try next time. BTW, I tried Joe Peeps a few weeks ago - interesting concept trying to to look like a grungy graffitti-ridden NY pizzeria. Sauce and cheese were good, crust was thin but had a cardboard consistency. The search goes on...
My favorite nachos in Los Angeles are at (wait for it) ... Tinga! And yours?
Believe it or not, Poquito Mas has delicious nachos - and huuge portions.
Looking for the best Chicken Tikka Masala in the SFV
There are tons of Indian restaurants in/around Sherman Oaks/Studio City but we're looking for the best chicken tikka masala (totally fine with white or dark meat) - any suggestions? Open to going over the hills as well!

Haven't tried that but have been to the one on La Cienega in West Hollywood. They're actually very good, just not the "NY style" pizza I'm looking for. Will try Leaning Tower soon!
New Yorker in LA looking for the best Indian, Chinese, and Pizza! Where do ex-NYers eat??
As an ex-New Yorker who's lived in L.A. for the past four years - to sum it up:
You can find very good authentic - and Americanized - Chinese food in both NY and LA
There's better Italian in NY - still can't find great NY-style pizza in L.A. !(Vito's is close and I'm not knocking Mozza style at all, it's just different)
Better Japanese/sushi in L.A.
Amazing Mexican in L.A.
And... I'm married to a Brit who says neither NY nor L.A. have good Indian food!

Haven't tried either yet - and I see Joe Peep's gets mixed reviews. I did really like Vito's in West Hollywood (when I lived in that 'hood) but not worth the drive over the hill now that we've relocated... You like Miceli's?
Looking for great pizza place in Sherman Oaks/Studio City Area
Husband and I decided to do a taste test last wknd - ordered from both Mulberry St. Sherman Oaks AND Barone's. Both were underwhelming, unfortunately. Mulberry St. pizza crust was much too thin for not being a blistered brick/wood oven pizza but I appreciated the cheese/sauce ratio. Barone's was cardboard-like and oily (not like good olive oil but more like kitchen grease). I will try give both the benefit of the doubt since they had to survive the pickup and drive time and assume they may be better when consumed on the premises. BTW, I was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and then lived in Manhattan for 15 years, so I know what decent pizza is like! We shall continue the search for the best pizza in the Valley (Danielle's might be next!)

Stay away from Big Mama's & Papa's on Ventura @ Coldwater. Tried them the other night and the pizza was pretty below average, dense crust, not flavorful. Also ordered eggplant parmigiana with penne and I think the eggplant added up to about the size of two quarters. Maybe fifty cent coins.
Sushi Zo or Asanebo?
Going for my bday dinner on Sat. and hoping to splurge on Omakase. Love all sushi (incl. uni etc.) - any thoughts on if I should go to Sushi Zo or Asanebo? Urasawa is not an option :-)

Did anyone get the recipes from today's M Cafe cooking class?
It seems like the Eat Drink or Die website is now just Funny or Die and can't find any of the videos :-/
Does anyone have the recipe for the kale with spicy peanut dressing?
Thanks!
Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon...so-so
Interesting - I'm planning on making Ina Garten's bb recipe as referenced below - it gets amazing reviews on the food network website. Planning on using 1/2 Cote du Rhone and 1/2 Pinot Noir! Anyone have recommendation on the best starchy side dish?
Great Caesar Salad in L.A.
Actually, I think Dal Rae's sounds better to me than Musso and Frank's - the caesar and the steaks might be worth the drive from West Hollywood?
Where to buy "mock meat"/ soy fish?
So Silom had a good four freezers full of mock meats - vege "salmon", "fresh fish", kung pao "chicken", black pepper "steak", soy "jumbo shrimp" etc. - it was amazing - thanks for the tip! I was also able to buy my favourite vegetable, Chinese broccoli, for $1.29 a pound. Going to try to cook some up tonight with a Thai garlic pepper sauce recipe I found online...
Where to buy "mock meat"/ soy fish?
Good call on Silom as the link says there's a whole fridge full of mock-meats - going there tomorrow!
Where to buy "mock meat"/ soy fish?
Thanks - I'm somewhat close to Koreatown but not sure if those groceries carried this - looks like I should aim more towards a Chinese grocery store.
Where to buy "mock meat"/ soy fish?
I'm a big fan of the soy fish that many Thai vegan restaurants serve - it's got a totally different texture and taste than the soy chicken/beef that is sold in Trader Joe's / Whole Foods - and I believe it's made with seaweed. Does anyone have any idea of what Asian grocery store within a half hour of West Hollywood would sell this so i can make it at home? Thanks!
Great Caesar Salad in L.A.
Thanks everyone - I think we'll start at Musso & Frank's and take the Caesar's tour from there...
Great Caesar Salad in L.A.
My husband is a Caesar salad aficionado and we haven't found a great one in L.A. besides Dan Tana's - does anyone have any other faves? Don't hold the anchovies - yummmm!
The Palm Steakhouse
They're promoting the steak/lobster dinner for two for $89 again and I was thinking of checking it out. It seems like a good price but I'm wondering if the quality/quantity is compromised - has anyone tried this out yet?
