Best Steakhouse in Philadelphia?

I haven't lived in the area for a while, but I'm looking to take out my Dad for a special dinner. What's the best steakhouse in Philly these days? Not afraid to spend a bit, and would prefer not-a-chain.

Exquisite and Exciting Meal in Washington, DC - Restaurant Nora or Fiola?

My friend and I have been taking each other out for great meals for our birthday for years. We've been to many of the best restaurants in Washington - Komi, Restaurant Eve, 2941, Citronelle, CityZen and Obilisk, to name a few. I'm trying to decide where to go this year. What do you think - Restaurant Nora or Fiola? We like restaurants with great food, but also innovative, and knowledgeable staff. Other recommendations very welcome.

Where can I enjoy a Cafe Brulot?

I'm traveling to the Big Easy for the first time this September, and I'm eager to try the famed Cafe Brulot. Where is the best place to have one?

Very Cheap Caterer for Office Lunch

Hi all,

We're a small, small group needing to cater a biggish lunch in downtown DC - 60 people. We were hoping to spend $3-4 per person, but here's the catch - must have vegetarian options, and preferably not pizza. Any recommendations?

Candybar Themed Meal main course suggestions

I am tremendously impressed with all of the replies so far. The best I had come up with was a thai/peanutty meatloaf.

Candybar Themed Meal main course suggestions

My friends and I are planning a candybar themed meal, and while we're having no problem with first courses, beverages and desserts, we're having more difficulty with main courses. Anyone have any ideas?

The many course should have some visual cue to a candy bar, or some ingredient similarity, but more protein based and not as sugary sweet!

Really outstanding recipes that are worth the effort

My friends who are far more ambitious cooks than I have offered to make a birthday dinner for me, the only limit being availability of ingredients (we have a Wegman's near by, and a good international community), not cost or time. What recipes are totally stunning and worth the labor and expense of ingredients?

I've started browsing through the French Laundry Cookbook, the Gourmet cookbook, and my mind is reeling with joy. I'd love your help! The only thing that comes immediately to mind is osso bucco, but that's not really all that challenging.

I'll give it a shot - thanks!

Best instant hot chocolate (just add water)?

It used to be Swiss Miss Cocoa & Cream, but sadly, that was discontinued (and if someone starts a petition to have it returned to production, I will gladly sign). For work I often travel to places where I don't have access to a stove or milk, but I do have access to hot water, so this is my evening treat.

Home recipes also welcome! I'm looking for something that has both a strong chocolate flavor and a significant cream texture (as the Cocoa & Cream did).

Thanks!

Dinner menu help for Sunday 12/7

Starting with spicy peanut soup.

I want to end with a pumpkin dessert that is not pie.

I'm looking for suggestions for a main course and a pumpkin recipe.

Thanks!

Exquisite Dinner, something innovative and special: Recommendations?

Finally went out for my birthday dinner with Mike, and he chose the Chef's Table at Restaurant Eve. It was the one of the most perfect dining experiences we've ever had. It's not that the food was the best, or the decor was the best, or the service was the best - all were excellent, but not *the* best. It was that the combination of the all of the details were so perfectly balanced as to create a wonderful evening. Of course, I did not pay as it was my birthday, so I don't know how that factors in.

To my knowledge, he didn't read this chat, so his choosing Restaurant Eve was a fluke.

And now I can start thinking about next year.

Updated list: Oceanaire, Palena, Little Fountain Cafe, Cashions Eat Place, Equinox, 2941, Aquarelle, Obelisk, Maestro, MiniBar, Citronelle, and CitZen, Komi and Restaurant Eve.

Exquisite Dinner, something innovative and special: Recommendations?

For the record, we went to Komi, and it was amazing. Absolutely on par with the finest places we've been, a foodie paradise, and I'm still thinking about the marscapone stuffed dates. I can't wait to see where Mike takes me in May! Thank you for all of your help.

Exquisite Dinner, something innovative and special: Recommendations?

My friend and I have been treating each other to spectacular meals for our birthdays for going on seven years. The gifter chooses the restaurant and treats, carefully selecting based on the WP dining guide, the Washingtonian's 100 Best Bets, and now I pose the question to you, Chowhounders. So far, in order, we've enjoyed: Oceanaire, Palena, Little Fountain Cafe, Cashions Eat Place, Equinox, 2941, Aquarelle, Obelisk, Maestro, MiniBar, Citronelle, and CitZen.

Where should we go next? Price is worth noting, but we are willing to splurge for excellence.

Recipes

It would be lovely if you would post all of your recipes from the print editions on line - those were great! I would gladly buy a box set of the print version, as I lent one once and never saw it again. I even bought gift subscritptions for two friends... ah well.
