A day in the life of a cloth restaurant napkin.

I watched a busser, knowing in advance what was going to happen: Table was cleared. Seats were wiped with damp towel. Table was then wiped with same towel. I almost threw up. I know it happens, I just don't want to see it happen.

DC recommendations in the K Street Area

Graffiato's is at 707 6th Street NW. THE best Caesar Salad ever. It has to-die-for croutons.

How do you dry plastic bags after you wash them?

If you have an on-the-countertop dish drainer, just put them upside down over the spikes.
My kids always laughed at me because I washed plastic disposable forks, spoons and knives. They have a LOT of kids and it was easier to use disposables when they came over. One time after they left, I opened the dishwasher and they had put their paper plates in the dishwasher, lol! They got a good laugh out of that!

What food find still haunts you - that you had once and haven't found since?

Ohmygoodness! That sandwich looks wonderful! So sorry you don't live where there are ethnic restaurants. If I ever move again, that will be first on my list of requirements, lol! Moved to OKC 14 years ago and no one knew what an artichoke was. Thought I had died and gone to Hell. I had come from California where Food was interesting, fun and quite varied.

Fun weekend dinner in DC

i second going to graffiato. i read in a review that reservations needed to be made weeks in advance. i made them about 2 weeks before. we liked it so much, we went again for lunch the next day, no reservations needed at lunch. you HAVE to order the caesar salad. the croutons alone were worth the whole trip to dc! also order the marrow. it was something else. can't wait to go back.

Bringing your own condiment(s) to a restaurant?

That must be a BIG pocket, lol! I, too, bring my assortment!

Here's What You Do with Banana Peppers

I bought 8 pepper plants. All were supposed to be Mucho Nachos. I ended up with 2 Banana Pepper plants. My daughter eats them right off the vine! Very fresh taste.

Have you ever OD'd on a food? And if you did, did you ever recover?

I, too, OD"d on Caesar Salad. Sick. Sick. Sick. It was years before I would go near it. My SIL brought a new bottle to my house one day and I tried it to be nice. It was good, but I haven't touched it since.

Tom & Bingo's BBQ - Lubbock

I went to JT Hutchinson in the early '70s. Tom & Bingo's RULES!!! You're right about how much money it takes to fill you up, though. lol! But it is worth it. I think Bingo burgers cost about 25 cents waaay back in the day. We go back every chance we get, even from when we lived in CA. The ONLY thing I miss about Lubbock.

Can You Get Mad Cow Disease from Eating Bone Marrow?

"...the potential anger to humans of plant fertilizers including bone meal and blood. "
Well, I guess you're darned if you do and darned if you don't. Bone meal and blood meal are supposed to be better because they are organic. I have been using both of these items this summer.

Time for School Lunch

I agree with gdavis. My children are grown now, but when they were in school, I took a few minutes each night to put things together. I would add a note of love, written on their napkin, every day. Their friends were always eager to see what their lunch contained, including the note. I doubt schools today will allow skewered foods, but these are all good ideas. Maybe my kids were used to eating a more diverse diet. Who wants a boring lunch? If you will take a few minutes after grocery shopping to cut fruit and veggies and bag crackers or chips for the week, it will be an easy weeknight or morning throw-together.

Ignoring your food

I was visiting my MIL in Texas and everyone was in a huge hurry to leave the house to go to the festivities at another house. My MIL was making a Tunnel of Fudge cake to take along. We were almost out the door when she remembered it! She had left it in the oven about 10-15 minutes too long. OMG! That was the best cake I have ever eaten! I got her recipe and now I "forget" it for an extra 10-15 minutes! I get raves every time.

Creamy New England Chowdar

I'm from Modesto. Our favorite place to visit was Monterrey. I got the printed recipe for Old Fisherman's Grotto Clam Chowder as a gift from my husband. Shortly after he got it, they realized they shouldn't be selling the recipe so they stopped that and started selling the stuff in cans. It is the BEST!!!

I zap my Morningstar burger in the microwave for 1 minute, then broil it for a few minutes each side. This causes it to "cup" a little. The "cup" holds my TOPpings very well!

what to do with philadelphia cream cheese?

I have spritzed my egg rolls with cooking spray and baked or broiled from a frozen state. Less fat and truly yummy! Also, I use spring roll wrappers instead of egg roll wrappers because they cook up crispier!
