Umbria Abruzzo tips

Hey all,
My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon in central Italy and were hoping for some tips. We are spending three nights around Perugia and 2 nights in Vasto. We'll have a car and want to find some out of the way, delicious food. We are adventurous and will try anything.

We'd also like to visit a few wineries in the region, if there are any tips regarding that.

Looking forward to hearing any thoughts on the area, and resources would be much appreciated as well!

First time to Detroit, one afternoon

Ok, so right now I am thinking of heading to either corktown (slow's) or eastern market (Russell Street Deli) for eating. Are there any good beer bars around there that would be open around lunch? Also, is this a pretty walkable area (say going down Michigan Ave to Greektown, etc) or do people usually cab between these places (I realize there aren't many cabs. Also, are there other good recs for that area?

Yeah, so we are flying in at 11, and someone is picking us up to go to a wedding in Auburn Hills at 3. They are coming from Dayton, so will be coming up from the south anyway. Looking at the map, it is like you said, there is no direct way, so I guess an extra 10-15min to grab us would be fine.

I am looking for a "neighborhood" in the city itself where we could get lunch, maybe grab a drink, and walk around for an hour or two and get a taste/feel for what's up and comnig in Urban detroit. I know this is mainly about food, but I've found that usually up and coming food is in culturally interesting places as well.

Thanks for all your replies.

Cool, so my plans have changes a bit, and now I'm thinking about renting a car for the afternoon. What are the must visit neighborhoods in Detroit? I am generally looking for places that are less upscale and more interesting.

Yeah, I'm not really looking for upscale. More the urban renewal side of things, although I don't know if that is reasonable along the route I'm looking for.

I am going to be in Detroit around lunchtime on Friday. The problem is that I have somewhat of a restriction. I want to find a neighborhood with a good place for lunch and some bars/stores etc between the airport and Auburn Hills. I'll be getting in around 11 and will have until about 3. I am willing to take a 40-50$ cab ride to get to wherever is recommended.

Thanks for any help. I am open to any type of food, but mainly looking for a place in a neighborhood that would also be fun to explore for a few hours.

Publican Question/Substitute

Hey guys, thanks for all your help! We ended up getting into Chicago late on Friday night and headed over to The Publican to see what was up. We arrived at 11:15 and they said the kitchen was closing at 1130, but it would be no problem. After we were seated there was no rush and it was as though it was at any other time. The food was excellent, we had the half charcuterie plate, rilletes, pork rinds and Suckling Pig, as well as a few excellent beers. The only complaint was the pig may have been a touch dry, but that could very well have been due to the late hour.

We went to Sable for brunch the next morning and had a half order of Chicken and Waffles and the pigs in a blanket as well as a cocktail a piece, the price and portion of the food was great, the cocktails were more expensive than the dishes though, but they were nice drinks. I had the drunken angel.

After we were shooting to get to Girl and the Goat at open, so we went to the Haymarket Pub, which is across the street and sampled some nice brews. We got to GATG at 420 and were the second group in the door and got our choice of bar seats (lounge was also open), it seemed as though seating was available till about 445 without reservations. It was a really nice meal and again it didn't seem as though the service was skimped at all from coming in early or sitting at the bar.

We finished off the night by going to Revolution Brewing and The Whistler. Both nice ambience and good drinks. Awesome time, thanks for all the help!

Publican Question/Substitute

I don't know if my stomach or my wallet can afford double dinner, but maybe two light ones? I'll have to look into The Aviary.

Thanks!

Publican Question/Substitute

yeah, we are going to be in the neighborhood, so we'll try to make it there before it opens. It'll feel kind of ridiculous, but I guess that is the length we'll have to go to!

Publican Question/Substitute

That place looks interesting. I've read that they don't take reservations, will they give you a call if you're waiting or do they expect you to stick around at the bar/check in with them.

Also, what is the story on the wait, if it is possible, at Publican?

Publican Question/Substitute

Hey guys, We're (2) gonna be in town for the weekend. So far we have a lunch reservation at Sable on Saturday, and we're thinking of getting to Goat & the Girl early for a bar app/drink (is this reasonable). We were also thinking of going to publican, but it is booked right through.

1) What is the wait/chance of getting a table for 2 at publican as a walk-in.

2) Are there similar, meat-centric restaurants that could be suggested?

We're also looking more generally for other good suggestions in that price range (8-17$ for starters; 18-30$ mains). Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Belgian Brewers Are Copying Us!

I think the problem here is that Belgium has historically been a beer laboratory, in opposition to the more regulated and history bound German beer culture (due to the reinheitsgebort (sic?)). They have pioneered, or maintained, the use of spices in beer, experimentation with wild yeasts, use of dry hops and aged hops etc. It is interesting that they are gravitating to styles innovated by american breweries, but not surprising.

Graduation Dinner Suggestions

Hey,
I am looking to have a graduation dinner in about a month, on a Tuesday night, for 12-15 people. I want to make the reservations ASAP and would like to end up at 35-45$ per head including drinks. Are there any suggestion you guys might have? I prefer a place that isn't too bar/party like but not ultra formal either (which should fit in with the price range I suggested. Location wise anywhere from LES to midtown would work.

Thanks!

Italian a Walk away from NYU

I'm meeting my GF around Washington Sq. tonight and I'm looking for reasonable/cheap, good italian within a 10-15 min walk. I'd like to keep the bill under 100$ with drinks (wine). If there's a byob in the area that would be great.

Thanks!
