Dessert Wine and Blue Cheese

Another exceptional cheese to pair with this is the Roaring Forties Blue
from King Island Dairy in Australia.
We pair it with fresh berries, toasted pecans and a bit of honeycomb for a great dessert combo.

Dining tonite at Iron Hill Brewery in Lancaster

Sorry about that......... yes, I did like their pizzas. A bit pricey, but considering the fresh ingredients and the unique combos, worth it IMO.
The beer selection is a bit of heaven for die hard beer lovers, plus they're listening to customer's requests and comments for bringing in an ever changing variety.
The mix & match thing is a big hit too.
Should mention they also serve a small selection of wines and have a limited but adequate variety of mixed drinks available.

Dining tonite at Iron Hill Brewery in Lancaster

They opened last Tuesday, the specialty pizzas are all flatbread, thin crust.
I had a pesto/pistachio/smoked blue cheese slice, and a Taleggio/fig slice.
The beer selection is incredible. Hundreds of bottled beers and an ever changing
tap selection of craft beers.
However, they've been running out of pizza frequently. They're working on upping the production,
but since their all hand made small batch, it'll take awhile to meet demand.

Beer wise, a much better choice just up the street:

best bacon

Thanks for the info wolfe.
Perhaps the USDA needs to update its definition.
Or come up with new term for all these knockoffs.

Produce Stands - Lancaster County

By far the largest and best, IMO, is the Lancaster Central Market
in downtown Lancaster. There are quite a few produce stands selling
nothing but organic products.

best bacon

Good point, but the topic was "best bacon".
I also had a wonderful BLT at a little cafe in Park City Utah, made with the chef's
homemade Lamb bacon. Delicious.

Weirdest Tasting Notes in Wine Reviews

One afternoon at a long party of food and wine,
we were reading the labels of the empty wine bottles.
We decided to play a game and try and come up with the best
fictitious wine descriptions.
The winner was "with hints of wet Russian leather".
We now use that often when discussing wines at our favorite restaurants.

Funniest Thing a Server Said to You

Was at a nice local restaurant for a private birthday party.
The staff was overloaded with all the drink requests, so my sister and I visited the empty
bar to get our drinks. A middle aged female server was "filling in" and had no clue how to make our drinks. I ordered a Gin & Tonic. She grabbed the correct glass, filled it correctly with ice,
then started pouring the gin. She asked me to tell her when she should stop.
We literally had to yell stop as it filled to the rim.
Great drinks, we went back for more.

best bacon

I agree. I have wild boar, bison and also black bear bacon,
and I still prefer Nueskes.

best bacon

One of the best. Nueskes. The "crack cocaine" of bacon.

Heart attack sandwich (involves corned beef)

And here's the perfect drink to go with such a sandwich.
Cold Stone Creamery's PB&C (peanut butter and cream)

Presented in a giant 24 ounce cup the whole gloopy, gooey mess contains 2,010 calories,
the total recommended daily allowance for a woman and only slightly fewer calories than are suggested for men.
There are also 153 grams of sugar, the same as 30 chocolate chip cookies, which deliver an immediate buzz.

Dry Aged Beef in Central PA

They're located more so in the Lancaster County region,
Stauffers does their own dry aged beef. Very good quality.
They do run specials on it on occasion.

Anyone try Camel milk yet?

An Amish farm in Pa is raising a herd of camels and is selling raw milk at this time.
Legal as long as it's not transported over state lines, just like raw cow and goat milk.
No pasteurization to affect those benefits.

Anyone try Camel milk yet?

I understand this is a hard to find yet popular product.
Raw camel's milk, and also camel milk cheese.
Amish farmers in the Bethlehem/Allentown area are selling it at this time.

From web sources:
Tasting slightly more salty than cows' milk,
but with three times the vitamin C and up to 10 times the iron content,
camel's milk is touted as a powerful tonic against many diseases and as an aphrodisiac.

BENEFITS OF CAMELS MILK:

Camel's milk is the closest milk to human mother's milk. Our bodies not only tolorate it well, our bodies thrive on it.
Camel's milk has triple the amount of vitamin C found in cows milk.
Camel's milk has TEN TIMES the amount of antibacterial and antiviral properties found in cow's milk.
Camel's milk contains an insulin like protein that survives the digestive tract and may benefit people with certain forms of diabetes.

I'm in the process of finding a supplier. Anyone have any experience with this milk?

Where can we get the best tasting blue cheese?

This is a great list!
Roaring Forties, Bayley Hazen, Cashel, all incredible cheeses.
Look for the Cambozola Black Label, it's the triple cream, best on a steak
Moody Blue is wonderful on mashed or baked potatoes.
Buttermilk Blue is a very popular cheese, great on burgers, one of the best, and on salads
I also adore a good Shropshire blue, probably my favorite blue of all.

Your best bet is to find a specialty cheese shop where you can taste a variety of blue cheeses.
Sample the sweet, the tart, the smoked and the strong. Do them all. Then buy your favorites.
Our cheese shop had a January special "Post Holiday Blues" featuring blues from around the world.

Your favorite cheese

Next weekend our cheese shop is doing a "sheep's milk cheese" tasting event.
Etorki, Lamb Chopper, Old Chatham Ewe's Blue, Ewephoria, and Zamorano will
be featured. Great cheeses all.

Your favorite cheese

I love it. No offense cheesemaestro, but I think the flavors go very well together.
It sells very well for us during the holidays. We bring it in once the cold weather hits.
Love it shaved over asparagus.

Your favorite cheese

Domestic:
Bayley Hazen Blue
Truffle Tremor
Smethe - raw milk, cave ripened Amish cheese

Imported:
Zamorano - Spanish
Roaring Forties Blue - Australia
Serafina Gouda - Holland
Taleggio - Italy
Raclette - Swiss
Morbier - French

Cork and Cap Lancaster

This is a very common complaint about this restaurant.
Hit or miss service, food, bar. It's all over the place.
They've cut staff, eliminated younger staff so as to "attract an older crowd".
But the biggest problem is the kitchen and the owners.
Food can at times be very good, but not consistently.
Service is usually slow, distracted, un-attentive.
The owners do not have a restaurant background, and it shows.
They are however very successful in their other business, but the same
business model does not fit well in a restaurant.
The building is remarkable, the bar area and brick & cork hallways beautiful.
It's a shame everything else is sub-par.

Interesting Burger Ingredients?

Cheese varieties:
Cotswold - Double Gloucester w/onion & chive
Carmalzied Onion English Cheddar
Red Dragon - Welsh cheddar with whole grain mustard
Harlech - Welsh cheddar with horseradish & parsley
Buttermilk Blue - creamy blue, perfect for burgers

Bacon - Nueskes Applewood smoked

Meat - use instead of beef
Kangaroo
Yak
Ostrich
Elk

American-made Buffalo Mozzarella

Instead of trying Wegmans or Costco,
search a quality specialty cheese shop.
Our local shop brings in very fresh Italian Buffalo Mozz
weekly. $9 for a small tub - excellent quality.

Head to the Pennsylvania Dutch Country.. where to eat

For the Lititz area:
The Sutter recently opened a new British Pub, The Bull's Head.
Nice place to enjoy lunch or casual dinner.
It's located on Main Street, with it's own separate entrance.
Has a traditional pub menu.
http://www.bullsheadpublichouse.com/

Nearby, about 5 miles SW of Lititz, is a new small development,
Richmond Square. It has two very good restaurants.
Ciro's is Italian, great brick oven pizzas!
http://www.ciroslancaster.com/contact.cfm

Coerulea is Asian cuisine & Sushi, also very good.
http://coerulearestaurant.com

And the Fiorentinos at the airport is decent too.

In downtown Lititz,
Glassmyer's is great for a inexpensive, traditional breakfast or lunch.
http://glassmyers.com
I'd strongly suggest avoiding Choc. Cafe.
Very expensive for tasteless microwaved meals.

As for restaurants, just look over some of the more recent posts about the same area.
These are usually listed at the bottom of you post page. (see below)
For the pretzel stuff, that was probably the Sturgis Pretzel Bakery in Lititz.
The downtown Lititz visitor site is
http://www.shoplititz.com

There are links for Sturgis and Wilbur Chocolate, plus all the shops on Broad & Main Streets. Nice town to visit, but not many dining choices.

What do you put on popcorn?

Java Shake, instead of salt. Off the package description:
finely ground Natural Brazil coffee, Kosher salt, pepper, garlic, paprika, and the perfect blend of natural herbs and spices.

very good too

No Reservations-Technique

This 2-stage French fry technique intrigues me. Gotta try that.
Great episode. I'm gonna make my own tomato sauce this weekend, just to try it.
How the hell did Keller get that bird so perfectly golden brown?
