winebanker's Profile
Myrtle Beach, SC
Came down to Myrtle Beach a day early because of the impending snow storm coming through Virginia. Based on some earlier posts and its nearby location we dined at Luigi's last night. We were glad to see it was the antithesis of the dining tourist traps in the area. We had a wonderful meal ... a shrimp scampi appetizer to start was very good, my wife's lentil soup was outstanding with a wonderful depth of flavor which warmed us up on the cold, rainy night. My portobello mushroom ravioli was served with proscuitto in a creamy asiago sauce which was not heavy but very flavorful. To top it off the wine pricing was very reasonable and we enjoyed a 2004 Tommiaolo Chianti Reserva for $30. Considering some of the other options in the area, this was an outstanding meal and value.
Group dining in Paris
Thanks for the suggestion. The cellar looks like a good setting.
Group dining in Paris
My wife is going to be taking a group of students to France for 10 days ... the last few days will be in Paris. She would like to put together a farewell dinner to end the trip. The students will be from 18-21 years old with most likely a wide range tastes. Her intent is to give them a nice dinner and exposure to dining in Paris. Probable budget is up to 50 euros per person. Any suggestions?
Help with short notice weekend added to Paris adventure
Thanks to all the great information already on the board. I am currently in the Auvergne until Saturday morning. My wife is teaching at Universite Blaise Pascal for the month of March. Our daughter and my wife's mother are staying with her the whole month. I am traveling with my mother (both devoted chowhounds) and the two of us were already set up to arrive in Paris on Monday, March 16th. Being flexible travelers our scheduled has changed and we are now arriving on Saturday the 14th. We are set up fairly well with dinner reservations during the week (La Regalade, La Coguille and Chez L'ami Jean). I was wondering what recommendations people would have for our short notice arrival this Saturday and Sunday. Those nights we will be staying in the 3rd near the Arts et Metiers metro stop. Though getting around should not be an issue, I would like to know what suggestions in the Marais that people would have.
Thanks for your help.
