drinks and eats on 65 mile bike ride (Brewster to NYC)
Hello All and thanks in advance for your kind advice! My wife and I are taking the train to Brewster and will ride our bikes from there to the downtown NYC on the rail trail.
It's a really long ride and I don't know any beer and food places north of the Bronx. Do you have any favorites in any of the following cities in Westchester County? (Mainly on the Saw MillPkwy)
Carmel Hamlet
Mahopac
Yorktown Heights
Millwood
West Harrison
Elmsford
Ardsley
Yonkers
below is a link to the route in case it helps.

Recommend a butcher in the East Village?
EV Meat Market really is lovely. They'll cut anything they have to spec... and you can special order many things which they don't. Fantastic prices as well.
Tulum: El Tabano - crazy good!
It is that good! We were there one year ago... so I don't remember what we had - but it was delicious!
And truth be told - there's not many options in Tulum. So it isn't a hard choice.
Park Ave Winter
It used to be a favorite special occasion restaurant of ours - no more! The service was horrible twice in a row. Unfortunately, the significant time was for my fathers 70th birthday. We'll never go again.
How about Peasant or Hearth? They're both lovely.
First Date, East Village, Degustation?
Love wine - but agree with Pan, Terroir's food is not inspiring. No-one has mentioned Northern Spy Company. It's more casual, a little dim, smaller plates and much less costly than Hearth and Degustation. The food is top-notch, check the Times (?) review.

Where to buy foie gras (goose)?
No promises - but try sos chef in the east village off avenue b. They supply the top end restaurants here and I know they have fresh foie gras available. Maybe only duck though.
Where to get Monkfish Liver?
The fishmonger at Tompkins Square Park has it frequently (Sundays). I also think I've seen it at the Union Square Farmers market.
Help! EV foodie transplanted to Morningside Heights. Good food in adjoining neighborhoods?
Hello All, thanks in advance for your input. I am temporarily located at 115 & Riverside for a few weeks... and I'm hurting from the dearth of options. I eat everything other than vegan/raw food.
So which adjoining neighborhood to you prefer for food and booze - Harlem or UWS?
And for that neighborhood...
- What $12 or less takeout places do you like?
- Restaurants for $40 or less - including a drink
- Non-sport bars... I'm under 40, just not into sports.
Cheers, Oliver
Pigs Cheeks
Hard to find without a special order - do you mean cured or fresh?
For cured: Salumeria Biellese has it (378 8th & 29th)
For fresh: I've seen the farmers market offer... but only as a special order

Need suggestions for private dining - party of 12 - 30th birthday
DBGB has spectacular food - and fantastic service. The private dining is off the kitchen, and very high class.
Tia Pol is also great - but you may share the room with one other large party.

THIS COULD BE DISASTEROUS
... don't take one for the team, if you can possibly avoid it.
Maybe you could suggest appetizers at another restaurant before? I'd recommend Tia Pol (for tapas) in Chelsea. Yes, It's not that close - but the have a reservable private dining room. The food is so good, they might not want to go to PH.

Need help locating some rare foods
Try Jeffrey's in the Essex Market (120 Essex & Rivington). I don't think he regularly carries it - but I have seen rare / unusual meats on his special order list. And his service can't be beat!
Not about food...PLEASE HELP--MY KNIVES HAVE BEEN BUTCHERED BY A KNIFE TRUCK
The only choice for me, always Westpfal. They can repair your problem and they have a quick turn around.
Sorry about your Wusthof - I have the same and they are great knives. They'll be fine.
Great atmospheric bars for a cocktail?
For probably the best view (and prices to match) - I would suggest Salon de Ning, on the 24th floor of the Peninsula Hotel. It has views to South Street and Stunning views of Fifth Avenue and Central Park .

A True Literary Cafe Anywhere in New York??
I can't believe that no one has mentioned Alphabet City. I like Cafe Pick Me Up on Ave A & 9th... more for the atmosphere than coffee quality. Also, you could try B Cup on 13th and - B

Searching for inexpensive fresh fish market in Manhattan
The Lobster Place is great - but quite expensive. Have you tried Rainbo's Fish in the Essex Market (off Rivington)? I find the quality to be much better than Chinatown and the prices are comparable. Their number is 212-982-8585

Hello, I love in the area and I find myself going to the same places over and over again. Royale, Mole, Barbone etc. I also have a long list of places I have meant to try and haven't gotten around to (after 4+ years).
Here are some I'm thinking of, which one would you go to (and why)? Feel free to suggest your own favorites. I'll be dining alone and prefer budget (but can do up to $30 for something amazing).

Oddities and unique eats in Manhattan?
Personally, I have never had better Mexican than Mole on Allen & Houston. Any one of their taco selections are amazing and the fresh squeezed margarhitas cannot be beaten. Oh, you must get their guacamole as well.
Seeking hidden gem or little known food stores/specialty stores?
have you spent any time in Brighton Beach? It may be obvious, but many natives have not. M & I International is fabulous, but you really can't go wrong with any of the markets down there.
Under the Radar - East Village Recs
Lived here for 4 years - definitely the best food area in the city. Some of the below have been mentioned and some not. I find them all to be excellent after dining at all of them very, very many times.
Barbone - Italian
Café Cortadito - Cuban
Royale - Burger
Grain & Grape - Wine/beer gastropub
Against the Grain - Wine/beer gastropub
Minca - Ramen
Yerba Buena - Latin
Cafe Mogador - Moroccan
Porchetta - Italian
The redhead - Southern

Buying Fish near Union Square
Hugely disagree about a particular fish vendor at Essex St. Market! Have you looked at Rainbo's Fish (north side of market)? They are very fresh - I use them for cerviche frequently. If we're flush we'll do the USQ farmers market ;if not, Rainbo.
NY Kom Tang or Kum Gang San?
Hello, thanks in advance for your advice. My wife & I are going to Koreatown for dinner tomorrow... and as you might guess we're looking for fun and food. (Normally, it's just food)
I know neither of these are the most popular in the threads, but if you had to go to one, which would it be? And what would you order?
Cheers, Oliver
Does New York mexican food really suck?
As a fellow Texan, I strongly recommend Mole for real Mexican on Houston & Allen in the Lower East Side. There food is amazing, every time - and my wife & I have been there a dozen times.
Must haves
- Taco's: my fav's are the diver scallop, fish or anything pork
- Lime-chipotle BBQ pork ribs served with” poblano” mashed potato.
- Carne Asada
- Carnitas Torta
- any of the specials
- and naturally the Mole Enchiladas
If you want Tex-Mex... well, that's a different animal
Negril, Jamaica
Amazing low-end, on the beach & immediately south of Rondel Village (hotel). The place is a brick-red hut with no sign... but a friendly gentleman named Altie in chef whites is usually standing outside. The best jerk chicken & curried goat you have ever eaten. Once we found this spot we couldn't eat anywhere else!
Our favorite juice guy is named Tony - but no real distinguishing marks other than he has short hair and is a little slight.
Need Scarsdale rec for 40th wedding anniversary
Sorry! $150 total or $75 per person.
Need Scarsdale rec for 40th wedding anniversary
Hello, thanks in advance for your advice! I've looked at almost all the posts... and I don't think I've seen a favorite recommended that would fit my need, yet. Please help!
In two weeks is my parents 40th wedding anniversary; they'll spend the day in Scarsdale where they were married - BUT we all live in Manhattan. Since they'll arrive via train the restaurant must be a short cab ride away from the station. Also, it should be romantic and some kind of European/American cuisine. It's my treat, so can I do this for under $150?
Need fav's for 4 day Vermont trip this weekend
Hello, thanks in advance or your kind advice.
My wife and I are first time peepers coming up from NYC, Thursday. While we eat everything, we particularly enjoy quality (locally sourced) ingredients and unpretentious service. New England specialties are a plus. We prefer really good food to white tablecloth dining (that said it's hard to argue with a really good meal anywhere!) We need both lunch and dinner recomendations for all cities below (or nearby). Please mention if it is a lunch or dinner rec and the address if you have it. We prefer to spend less versus more, but a costly meal won't kill us. Oh, bonus points for a nice view/good atmosphere.

Móle review: best Mexican in the city!
While I've contributed to this board (and should more often), I've never submitted a restaurant review because frankly there are people who are better at it. That said...
My wife and I lived in Texas for 20+ years, spent 3 weeks in the Yucatan and like many people on this board, haven't found the Mexican they were looking for in NYC. We have a couple standbys but nothing we'd steer people to. And now we're going to sound like a couple of Moonies, because if you like Mexican - you must eat at Móle! Nick (the owner) only buys/cooks from whatever is best in the the market.
What a difference that makes - we started out with the guacamole, made table-side (for us bar-side) which was a nice touch. The avocado was so fresh it almost fell apart under the attention of our waiter. We can't stand the toothpaste style guacamole presented in so many substandard Mexican places. Lets just say the guacamole, was fantastic and leave it at that.
Because at Móle there is one problem - the sauces are so delicious (and you may well get some complimentary) you may find it difficult to finish you entradas. One stellar example was the lime-ancho chile sauce that we had along with their salsa. Both were complex enough to keep you thinking, thick enough to keep you happy and abundant enough to cause difficulty with your next course.
I had the Guajillo Sauce Braised Rabbit in Parchment, while my wife had her "litmus test" for Mexican, Enchiladas with Green Salsa. ...And my Rabbit probably made it into the top 10 meals I've had in my life. Such complexity in the Guajillo Sauce: deep smoked chile notes, cinnamon, tomatoes, orange? cumin? and the rabbit was just falling off the bone. And my wife refused to share her Enchiladas with Green Salsa as it was the best she ever had. I'll assume it was good then. We talked for a bit with Nick and he was very friendly. What else do you need - go already!
