Jimmy Dean's Premium Hot Pork Sausage

does anyone know where i can find any type of Jimmy Dean's sausage? I'm dying to make my great grandmothers biscuits and gravy, but only jimmy dean will work. It would be impossible to use anything else, as I know she'd haunt me and use her cast iron skillet to spank me if I substituted anything but her beloved Jimmy Dean.

Bofinger DDO - Normal?

Ok, I'm going to have to disagree with the theme of this post - but first a bit of background. I'm an American living in Montreal who LOVES good bbq. I understand the difference between the types of bbq (dry, all sauced, etc) and I have found Bofinger's to be pretty damn good. Admittedly I've only eaten at the one on Sherbrooke in NDG. In the past month I've had: chicken and pork ribs - the chicken was so so, the ribs were great, the fries were perfect and the cole slaw.. i thought I'd died; the beef ribs - a bit tough, but meaty and flavourful, again the fries were amazing and the slaw makes me drool; and on Friday I had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on the sandwich and fries, the fries could have been cooked a bit more, but the pulled pork was tender, mouthwatering and well executed. I just wish they did sweet potato fries and had cider on tap.

I work in the food industry and know how hard good bbq can be to pull off. It takes a very experienced kitchen staff, a dedication that is nearly cult like and patience - and finding even on of these traits in a kitchen is a miracle.

Now for the sauces, I will admit that depending on where you are in the south sauces can be like a baptism for the food or an abomination. I've found the sauces to be a bit off, but good none-the-less.

Is this the best bbq in the world, no... but in perspective it's pretty damn good.

Help needed- recs in NDG

If you're looking for great chicken, I'd say skip Chalet BBQ and go to Cote St. Luc BBQ. In my humble opinion (and I know that I might start a war here) but the flavour is much better at CSL and the fries are amazing.

Coffee in Montreal on par with Intelligentsia, Stumptown, etc...?

I would recommend Aux quatre vents at Jean Talon Market. They do all their own roasting and I've found the quality to be great.

We're throwing a Harvest Dinner - need some help with snacks for the Poker Party portion...

sweet potato chips or fries... or maybe just some great homemade regular chips with rosemary and sea salt

Pierogies

I live above Chopin Deli on Decarie Blvd (just south of Monkland) and they have a selection of decent perogies that are made on site and frozen. I can also vouch for the quality of their meats and sausages (all made in house).

I am in love

I had this ham last year at a food show in Chicago. It was simply amazing. It was complex and yet simplistic. I could taste the nuance of the hazelnuts and acorns that the boars ate. GOD I WANT MORE NOW.

Los Clasicos: Authentic Mexican on St Laurent

I was there last night, and I must say this is some great mexican food. I grew up in an area of the us with lots of migrant workers, so I'm used to real mexican food and not the texmex crap that they serve at Carlos & Pepe's. I know I'll be back and very often.

Reasonably priced kitchen supplies

I would recommend Monas on Park Ave just north of the of the Park.

I am NOT a fan of Tzanet. I've been a few times and I find it difficult to get any help and the store isn't clean. Maybe I'm just too picky, but I like to have a clean store.

Ganges Restaurant - Sherbrook West in NDG

Well after reading several positive reviews for this restaurant, and being very hungry for some spicy food I made the treck to the restaurant.

Upon entering my expectations were hightened. The restaurant was about 1/2 full at 6 pm on a Monday evening. The food on the tables looked good and people seemed to be happy. I quickly realized that I was fooled.

I was shown to a table and given a menu. I purused the menu and figured out what I wanted, settling for the samosas, a chicken curry and nan. About 20 minutes later I was able to flag down a waiter to place my order. After looking around and realizing that the tables around me hadn't received their food in the 20 minutes I'd been waiting, I decided to pop out to the dep to grab a magazine.

I got back took my seat and started to read National Geographic. After about 10 minutes of reading and attempting to flag a waiter for a glass of water I was successful and received my water. About 15 minutes later my samosas arrived... about 30 minutes after I ordered them. They were delightful, light and grease free. Well worth the relatively low price.

about 10 minutes later most of the rest of my meal arrived. The rice was average at best, the chicken dish was not as described. It was obviously tandoori chicken that was cut up and put into the sauce, not simmered in the sauce. The sauce was sickeningly sweet and not a hint of spice. My nan looked like it'd been hacked into pieces with the handle of a butter knife and it wasn't even warm. They had forgotten my poppadom.

The first time any one came to check on my meal, I was nearly done. I asked for a refill of my water and my poppadom. The poppadom arrived in about 10 minutes, the water in an additional 10 and the bill a full 20 minutes later.

Total 22.63 (meal and tax, no alcohol, water for beverage). I would consider this overpriced/bordering on a rip off considering the service.

I may be spoiled as I lived in the Lower Mainland of BC and had many great Indian Restaurants, but I will not stop looking for a good one here.

Good news for Montreal chiliheads! Cuisine Szechuan

So I went for dinner this evening. It was looking promising as I came in from the cold. There were only a few people waiting for a table. The room was filled and I was the only Caucasian (I find this very promising for authentic food).

About 30 minutes later I got a table and a menu. There were several large parties taking up most of the table and the resources of the kitchen. After waiting for about 15 minutes I flagged down the waiter to order. I was beginning to get disparaged since it had taken 45 minutes just to order.

Luck was on my side and the kitchen didn't have a backlog. My dumplings came out of the kitchen rather quickly. I was hoping for the dumplings in the broth mentioned above, but unfortunately I didn't receive them. I received some adequate dumplings with a sickeningly sweet peanut sauce.

At this point I was thinking I had wasted my time and money on this evening, but my opinion quickly changed when my main course arrived. I received this huge bowl of beef in the spicy sauce (I hadn't ordered it too spicy) with some rice. The beef was VERY tender, the sauce was perfectly balanced. I was in heaven.

My only complaint about the main course that it was rather greasy.. but I made due just fine.

I will definitely be back to enjoy this restaurant.

Best Steak Frites in Montreal

I'm a huge fan of steak frites and have just moved here. I want a decent cut of meat, some amazing green peppercorn sauce and the perfect frites. Any chance I'll find them here in Montreal (at a price that won't make me cry)?

MSP - Bulk Cranberries?

makes sense to freeze them.. they also make great ice cubes in the future. They won't water down your drink. Besides, how much time and money would you waste by driving out of your way, finding a parking spot, etc to buy 1/2 a pound of cranberries.

Pannetone - Looking for

Decor France - A bakery supply store. 890 Henri Boussard in North Montreal. I was there today and saw them.
