Thanx........

Williamsburg EATS!

I need help from my fellow Chowhounds.....When it comes to Brooklyn, is Williamsburg a good lunch/dinner destinations for Manhattan peeps like myself? What restaurants a re cool there, like Planet Thai etc...Would you recommend another BK hood with good restaurants? Please name a few if so...Thanks guys. ($40-70 for 2 people)

Wakiya (@ the Gramercy Park Hotel)

I totally feel for your experience there...wow! amateur show! the phone exchange is sometimes the guests first contact with a restaurant and thus must be stellar, and this example was anything but....is this what is expected from nobu managment? i am yet to hear a possitive experience but in hospitality and culinary!

Wakiya (@ the Gramercy Park Hotel)

Dinner for 4 at Wakiya last night....quick drinks, good wine service, attentive staff, friendly greet. Here is where the concept comes short...the portion/price/flavor profile was off. The server mentioned "family style" yet we had to order a total of 6 entree and 2 desserts (4 people) and we were still hungry after dinner. Im talking all 4 of us needed a pizza or something! Some of the dishes were literally 4-6 bites with less than 2 oz. of protein. Standouts of these were the soft shell crab and the pekin duck. HINT- stay away from the lobster/chicken combo!! its a scam. False advertizing at its best, with a plate overflowing with red peppers, that look from a far like marinated chicken or beef, yet are pure garnish, not meant to be eaten. 15% of the contents on the plate can be eaten, and the tempura was soggy and lacked taste. So.....Dont go with an appetite, or definatelly order about 3-4 dishes per person to be satisfied. Decor was nice, music was right, unisex bathrooms are a surprise considering the space they have. $300 for 4 people without tip with $110 of it in wine. One last note that left a sour note was that after dinner you are not allowed in to the rose bar, not even for an after dinner drink. never seen that...and i was with 3 hot women! after having a drink at the "lobby bar" management asked us if we wanted to go in yet it was a clear NO at first...weird..

Mercat....y ole!

cool...i was there wednesday....now we have 2 good options on bond...along with bond st sushi!

Mercat....y ole!

finally! someone did it right. this restaurant takes the lead in spanish cuisine in the city. sorry boqueria, but mercat is the real thing. food, atmosphere, music, wines, location! i guess it really took a spanish crew to create a spanish vibe after all....get the bunuelos, the patatas bravas, fried egg and mushroom plate, the churros, damn it, get a cheese plate!!! it was all good.

Tasca? Ostia?

tasca was a let down
small portions, bland flavor, high prices, so-so service, loud acoustics...other than that is was fabulous! :(

What happened to Cafe Habana?

thanx lindsay.....good, i got scared for a while there....love that spot! maybe sunday brunch...

What happened to Cafe Habana?

Best New York Pizza in SF/Oakland?

thanx! great info

TASCA

Why? why cant anyone do Spanish cuisine right!!!??

I understand that they just opened, i can look passed the poor layout of tables, the extremely cold red wine by the glass, the 5 minutes sitting without menus, the dropping off food at the wrong table..(twice!) ....but when you hear the hype and you hope that finally someone has done it right (in the kitchen) then you are upset when you are once again overcharged for under-performed food.

The American belief that tapas are just "Expensive finger food" is highlighted here in a $100 meal that left me hungry. I almost needed a pizza after dinner...not good.

Suprisingly, the best part culinary wise was the paella, a hard dish to make well, but the gambas al ajillo were a dud, so were the boquerones, and 2-3 other tapas we got. my girl liked the short ribs in red wine sauce. they looked good (for meat eaters!) Over all too expensive for what we got and flavors did not work. Sad, because i thought we finally had a good Spanish restaurant in NYC. I guess i might just have to do it myself......

Boqueria is still # 1 here in NYC, by default.

Restaurant Week

thanx bu...i ate there the day before restaurant week (coincidence) the salmon burger is delicios!!! try it

Per Se price increase

I agree with O&P. restaurants need consistency and frozen gives u that. size, fry temp, color, etc... the taste profile does not change that much. At the end of the day, the quality of the potato it came from is more important. (frozen idaho vs fresh new hampshire)

Restaurant Week

Bar crawl? no way....Restaurant Crawl!!!!!
Since day 1, ive been going at it non-stop....Le Perigord, Aquavit, Craftbar, Alto...tomorrow Kittichai...and who knows what on Saturday.
Any suggestions? im going to a different one EVERY day until its over. Its a Jewish foodie dream come true..haha!

Anyone know of a good fondue place?

not just cheese fondue but chicken, beef...
