Deluxe Newton...going downhill fast?

stopped going there last year...every time we went, it was the constant smell of wet rags and old bleach. it was disgusting.
and we really enjoyed it on many occasions. the breakfast portions are huge though-or were at one point.

Life without a microwave?

we bought one, it blew the fuse-and now it sits useless-we dry wine glasses on top of it.
Sometimes it would be really useful-oatmeal in the a.m., a quick reheat of something but generally we dont miss it.

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - March 2013 [OLD]

1 more yay is the raisin rosemary crackers-a hint of sweet with savory. nutty. yum.

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - March 2013 [OLD]

i know its been mentioned but the dried kimchi is not good.not good at all. fishy mess is dead on.

yay: the italian truffle cheese (dont know if its new), quite tasty- a little nutty, some pieces are a little gritty but its barely noticeable-nice mild cheese though.

oh i wish theyd bring back the unripened brie they had in January...it was heavenly.

Appetito

oh yeah and the service....incredibly slow. painfully slow.
we like to enjoy our meals but this was painful.

Appetito

not impressed by appetito-wanted to enjoy it so badly. The outside shows great promise.
pretty sure the olive oil on the table was vegetable oil.
i ordered a cup of soup, minestrone if I remember correctly. It was a watery broth with soggy discolored veg and a few white beans.
My pasta dish-a creamy sauce with proscuitto was pretty good but it wasnt proscuitto (sp?). It was much thicker and "hammier".
The whole meal was barely ok-we felt sad for the many tables (groupon) that sat down really excited about the menu. The table next to us had a plethora of complaints (brown lettuce, a rotten tomato in the salad to name a few.)
I think Tartufo-close by, is better for the money and taste.

Out of the loop --where do I go for one night out in Boston these days??

just had an awesome "night out" in the big city! drinks at hawthorne-top notch service, dinner at eastern standard :) Eastern standard was a tad loud and crowded but we had a great meal (Oysters, steak frites, mac and cheese-it was a splurge kinda night) We really wanted to hit up icob for some oysters and a cocktail but it was to crowded and we were a little toooo tipsy after dinner hehehe.
have fun!!!

Barcelona: Lower Your Hopes to "Moderate"

that's to bad, ive been to several in CT and have enjoyed the food and wine.
i went for an after work drink with some co workers, got there on the early side and had good food and drinks-it does get a little pricey. i would recommend it-i think its a good place for the area.
we left at 7 and there was barely room to walk out of the place-not that that means its good, it just means people want to try it :)

Birthday dinner for 2

i dont know if its out of your way but im a HUGE fan of il casale in belmont. I always start the meal with the proseco cocktail-with a candied hibiscus and my bf who is not a big drinker but has been known to polish off a few "carpanos".
Many great plates to share-and the bread is crusty crusty on the outside and soft and chewy...the burrata is wonderful...the arancini is great...oh now youre making me want to go!
its got a great cozy atmosphere-dim lights, small tables..

toro??

some girlfriends coming in a few weekends-we love wine and food and are excited to head out-we were thinking about toro-for tapas and wine. It just seems more social and kinda different than what we're used to.
I also saw estragon-but wasnt too sure-our hunch was toro.
any thoughts??

Food processor

Ok we've got every kitchen gadget around-or at least it looks that way
I don't see the need for a food processor but the bf does. I think I'll splurge for Xmas but I'm
Not sure which way to go.., kitchenaid? Cuisinart? I'm looking at the lower
End I believe-less than 200 any suggestions? He really enjoys baking, we are both fairly decent cooks
And are pretty good about being adventurous in the kitchen. Thanks for your help!

Our Own Channel 2 Airs David Chang/Momofuku Series 11/9

I have only watched the ramen episode, which made me crave ramen and I don't think that craving is going to be squelched anytime soon. It was serious food porn. and who doesn't love david chang. I cant wait to watch the other episodes.

miso

ive been wanting to by a tub/jar of miso, not the powdered dehydrated soup kind I can get in the asian aisle at my chain grocer.
Do the colors of the miso correspond to the flavors-and how so? what's a good beginner rec'd-something not too strong.
and how long does it last?
any suggestions?

thanks :)

August 2012 Openings and Closings

its a slight step up from john brewers-went last night-good beer list, better than the usual john brewers-it was packed. also very loud but overhead a waitress saying they had ordered sound proofing (as a sidenote: several people waiting gave up there spot bc of the noise). bf got a burger which he thought was great and i got a buffalo chicken wrap-also what i expected and was pleased it was grilled chicken not fried. we'll go back the prices were reasonable and the beer/drink list was good enough. im sure it will be crowded for a while there isnt to much over there.
