Original Chinese Restaurant in GCM Basement??

In light of the rennovation of the Grand Central Market Basement, I was telling a friend about the original Cantonese-style Chinese restaurant
that was at the bottom of the stairs. I couldn't remember details as to the name of the place, and which high-profile movie was filmed there
(Two Jakes?)

Does anybody know?

thanks in advance,

R.I.P For Good: Wong's Garden Grove

After limping along as half-old school Cantonese and half S.E. Asian Crab/Crayfish fare for a year Wongs Spicy Crab restaurant is now a Vietnamese "Bun" joint.

I've read the threads concerning the dearth of good Cantonese on O.C. but never have tried any
of the few suggestions. Any recs or updates?

thanks,

The Wheel Inn in Cabazon. Look for the Morongo Casino tower and the Dinosaurs.
Pretty darn good diner-type food with a truck stop vibe.

Moffett's Chicken Pies in Bellflower - gone?

The "Chicken Pie Shop" in Long Beach referred to in this thread was actually Phillips Chicken Pies. The restaurant was on Pine Ave. They also had a take-out-only place around the corner on Pacific Ave. When they closed in the 70's, they relocated to Seal Beach, where they still are today. Phillip's still sells Chicken Pies, both hot to eat on the premises, and frozen to take home.
The recipe seems to me exactly as it was in Long Beach. Sadly, they don't have the Chicken Liver or Giblet plates as before. I recently had lunch there, The Mashed Potatoes were instant but the Gravy and Pie were excellent. Phillips is located in a shopping center on Seal Beach Blvd. at Westminster Blvd. near Leisure World.

HATCH CHILE ROASTING 2012 Please add dates.

Just keep in mind that you must peel the chiles and remove the seeds while they're still warm.
If you freeze them without this step, they'll be a nightmare to handle when thawed.

The easist way to clean them is under cold running water with a collander below to catch the debris. Wear gloves if your hands are sensitive.

Wong's In Garden Grove R.I.P.

Good News! The new owners of Wong's/Spicy Claw have made a brilliant move. The East
dining room is dedicated to the "Spicy Claw" menu (Crab, Crawfish, etc.) complete with butcher paper on the tables, and a dedicated menu. The (original) West room remains as it always was
with the red naugahyde booths and the old school Cantonese menu.

I dined there a few weeks ago and the old menu looked and tasted exactly the same.

Vegan Chinese in Orange County??

I'm looking for a Vegan Chinese place in Orange County. I used to go to a great place in Westminster
on Magnolia at Bolsa in the 90's with very good faux Meat, Chicken and Seafood dishes. It's long gone
and I haven't found a similar restaurant.

where to draw the line on "authentic"?

Too many of you who've replied have confused the intent of my post with their personal preferences.
Sure, if you want to put Fois Gras, Kim Chee, Whale Blubber or whatever between Corn Tortillas, it's
still a Taco. But not an authentic one. The Taco I described has been in most parts of Mexico for a long, long time with few regional variations. It will continue to be made this way long after foodies
and their rat bastard fusion-of-month inventions fade into well deserved obscurity.
