How to Make the Best Pork Chops

For a good side take a lunch sized container of apple sauce and peel back the foil top. Place a spoonful of hot horse radish in the sauce and stir. Place the foil back over the apple sauce. Chill for a couple of hours in the fridge. Serve alongside your pork chop.

'tis the season for a King salmon BBQ

Where would be the best location in the Bellevue area to source a big slab of King salmon? I regret to say I won't drive into Seattle anymore to get this at great places like Jack's at the Pike Place Market. It is too difficult to get there with tolls and parking.

The Safeway soup counters occasionally feature chili that I think is very good. It certainly disappears fast.

Summit House Restaurant

This is the spot we used to take our brown bag lunches to at Crystal Mountain:
We had lunch today accompanied by beautiful sunshine and not too much wind. The menu is limited because of location. I chose the fancy burger and was surprised with the overall presentation. It comes with a original mayo sauce for the large lightly fried pomme frites that had special salt on them. The burger was made from their own mix of beef. It was served on a roll made at the Black Diamond Bakery with wonderful Swiss cheese and several slices of very lean bacon. There was lettuce of the Romaine verity and some really small rings of raw onion. The wine list was short, but I enjoyed a glass of the 2009 Hestia Red Blend, Columbia Valley, WA. The place got really crowded after we arrived and the waiting list was long. If you plan to go make reservations.

Need West Seattle dinner recommendations

I tried to research this, but the research system didn't work for me. Please, somebody give me several good ideas where we should take a very interesting friend that arrived from SLC for his daughter's newborn. The daughter is not involved, but Hobatz is. We will pick him up in West Seattle and drop anchor nearby for dinner.

We eat there (Shanty) all the time on our way to the marina. They have great diner fare. The waitress has opinions. Follow her ideas.

Places to eat in Anacortes/La Conner

I got this off of my local motorcycle touring site:

Re: Places to eat in Anacortes/La Conner

Hi Divas -
Living in Anacortes, I have tried mostly all the restaurants here (probably why I don't ride that little Rebel much anymore, lol).

Randy's Pier 61 has seafood, wine, is a little pricey but classy, good steak, too, and on the waterfront east of Commercial a few blocks off of 4th Street, a little street just before you go up the hill to Cap Sante rock.

The Casino, Northern Lights, has a seafood buffet Friday's p.m., but that is probably out. It is right on 20 across the bridge east of the intersection from Whidbey. They do have seafood selections, and, hey, who couldn't drop $20 in a machine while there? Takes checks.

The Farmhouse Inn has some delicious food, no checks. It's at the corner of 20 and the road to LaConner east of the twin bridges. I particularly like their warm turkey/cranberry sandwich. No checks?

The Rockfish Bar & Grill has great coconut shrimp, as well as a whole line of good food (my son cooks there sometimes, make sure you say "Hi" to Ike in the kitchen if you go there! It is downtown Anacortes probably at 3rd and Commercial or 2nd and Commercial, on the west side of the street. If you are there later in the evening, they usually have weekend music! And they brew their own ale, but, of course, you are not going to drink and drive. No checks.

Estaban's Mexican Restaurant on Commercial across from The Market (used to be Food Pavilion) 14th or 15th and Commercial (?) has great Mexican food, and even has seafood on the menu. Good pigout place (oh, did I say that - see reference to Rebel). How can you resist those chips and hot sauce?

Stork's Restaurant at the bowling alley, 29th and Commercial, has been rated as the best food in town...they, too, have seafood on the menu. Prices are reasonable, service is good. Sometimes they have a daily special including seafood.

DETOUR NOTES: Remember, if you are coming to Anacortes, we have a little bit of a detour as you come to town. They are putting in a roundabout at Commercial and Hiway 20, so you can't get to Commercial that way. BUT you can turn at R Aveneue, where you are directed to, and come down to 32nd, take a left, if you must go down Commercial. Or you can go down R into town (less traffic lights anyway). R becomes Q and you can cross over at several streets to reach Commercial. I usually go to the light at the Walgreens and take a left, that's 17th, I believe.

And, diva's, we now have two bead stores in town. Anacortes Beads & Crafts on Commercial by the Walgreen's - she has a turquoise sale going on right now. And Elisabeth's Cottage by the Sea at 7th and Commercial - she has much more than just beads, great prices on things for the house, things that make great gifts, and the largest turquoise carving in the world is there.

Welcome to Anacortes!

Spuds at Greenlake

I like to make the Jaunita Spuds a special lunch for me when the weather is nice because I take the Ducati motorcycle. They have a 'Frequent Flier Card' that allows a $6.00 discount after the appropriate blanks are filled in. I generally choose a 'double' that makes the trip worthwhile. I recommend the 'family' sized tarter sauce. When the card fills up I tend to opt for the fancier Halibut and chips, which are more expensive. The regular double is about $10.42 after taxes and the Halibut is in the $13.00 range. Trust me, they know who I am when I pull up with the bike. Nice people.
