Ended up having a simple lunch on USD campus and doing the Grant Grill for dinner in our hotel which was beautiful, excellent food and wait staff! Desserts had our daughter disappointed ! More savory than sweet!

Hounders! Taking our Senior daughter to check out college there in a couple of weeks. Staying at the US Grant. All types of food and no price limit. Obviously, Our last child at home and she is deciding between San Francisco and San Diego. Thanks!!!

My husband had the merluzzo arrosto cod (Pan roasted cod with yukon potatoes, rapini, pinenuts and lemon caper sauce) licked the plate. My daughter had ravioli con granchio (Dungeness crab ravioli with a herb butter broth with parmesan, loved it. And I had tonno alla toscana (Seared tuna with tuscan white beans, escarole, pancetta with a whole grain mustard sauce. Delish. Also happy with the choice of Italian red we asked them to order. Marlowe our waiter was alot of fun and offered if we came back tomorrow another red wine that they only had one bottle left at a greatly reduced rate.

Thank you Chowhounds, you never disappoint!! Completely loved Ana Mandara and being so close to Ghirardelli was a bonus for our daughter. Also, after exhausting college tour,s Cafe Pescatore was a welcome cozy delicious find. And you could certainly read us well, we are from Malibu CA. If our daughter decides to do college there we may be asking for more recommendations. Thanks again!!!

We just did the tasting menu at Providence on Friday night and it was unbelievable! We had gone to the LACMA before so my husband didn't have a jacket and I was not in a dress and fit right in. Fantastic non stuffy service.

Love Malibu Seafood too. But if you want a real find, go to Lily's. It's right by the Bank of America, everyone in Malibu goes for the amazing tacos and burritos! There are tables and chairs outside. Also, How's market by Trancas has killer BBQ tri tip sandwiches!

Not kidding! One was even in a Catholic church, her happiest times were in their condo in Maui. They handed out fresh luas for everyone. Another was more of a wake than a funeral. A celebration of life.

Thinking it should be a private room, we have a lot of loud friends! Not formal, more dressy casual. Lately we have been going to a few funerals that were Hawaiian theme, so scratch that. We are in Malibu but people will be coming from all over OC and LA. I remember going to a birthday at Chinois on Main's private room, so maybe something like that. Or that? Looking for options. Oh, and it's mid November.
