Mushroom and Fennel Bread Pudding

Would you let leave the bread out to go "stale" as some bread pudding recipes might do?

Caputo Flour

Just a quick update on this, I visited Garden of Eden on 14th Street today and they had none, nor did they seem to know what it was.

Found it at Buon Italia, in Chelsea Market though, two types, both by Molino Spadoni (Gran Mugnaio) both in 1Kg sizes, I bought both, just in case ;)

These are far in the rear of the shop on the right north wall...

Smoky-Sweet BBQ Beef Short Ribs

This is a great looking recipe. I would recommend though, also making the sauce the day before, similarly to the suggestion of letting the dry rub go for 24 hours. The sauce will also get better with a little time ;); will definitely be trying this one out this summer.

Cheers!

Guide to Affordable Olive Oils in New York City

While I'm no connaisseur, take a look at Agata & Valentina's on 1st Ave @ 79th. No price quotes off the top of my head, but my jaw generally drops when I shop there for evoo.

Tea with 2 little ladies

For an interesting, and, somewhat historic option, you might try The Russian Tea Room (http://russiantearoomnyc.com/). They do a "High Tea" and a "Children's Tea" there, and though I am no expert in these things, I thought it was actually very nice. I went out of curiosity with a fellow tea loving friend of mine, and had a great time. Somewhat pricey, but not off-puttingly so. It's a very interesting space, and a definite memory maker, I would think, for two young ladies.

Zapp's Potato Chips

They have them at The Melt Shop

http://meltshopnyc.com/menu

@ $1.50 a (small) bag. That's the "the outdoor plaza at the Citigroup Center, on the northeast corner of Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street, down the steps and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan."

Sardine Ideas Packed like, erm ...

From time to time I like to mash them up in my homemade marinara (preferably in the olive oil while toasting the garlic and pepper flakes prior to adding the tomatoes) and get a quasi-puttanesca thing going.

Also, if you're going to top a salad with these, drizzle some of the accompanying oil into you're vinagrette, yum!

Non-Pizza Uses for Fresh Oregano

I love to use oregano as the third in my "triple crown" of steak spices. The other two being, of course, sea salt and freshly ground pepper.

I coat the steaks with a smattering of olive oil, then add the sea salt, freshly ground black pepper and some fresh oregano, which I mince as finely as possible; almost to a paste.

I schmear this all over the steaks and let them sit for awhile under some plastic wrap on a plate. Depending on how leisurely I'm being, this could be hours. I like to be well sure that the steaks are truly at room temperature through and through before I get to searing.

I have known this process as "Italian Style" steaks, but have absolutely no pedigree for that moniker, nor do I, now that I think of it, even recall how I came to call it that. I do know though, that it is smokin' good!

Cheers!
