Xi'An Famous Foods

It's actually on Broadway between 101 and 102 I think. I've now eaten at this location three times but I feel it's not quite as good as when I used to get it at the tiny, hole in the wall location in Chinatown. I also have yet to see them actually hand-pulling the noodles when I order (def. w/cumin lamb). Anyone else with an experience at this location?

Best Lunch Under $60 pp?

We ended up at Bouley for the luncheon tasting menu ($55 pp) and we were not disappointed. Each course had four choices so the three of us each ordered a different dish for each course so we could sample as much as possible. I don't have time to go into great detail but I will say that every dish we had was a WOW with the exception of the roast chicken (bland) and the duck (good, but not great). The beef cheeks was our third choice in the entree category and that was great. We opted for the cheese course as one of our desserts. Glad we got it but I don't quite understand the $21 supplement on that nor do I understand the $21 supplement to get the lamb (which we did not opt for due to the high supplement). We split a fantastic bottle of wine (suggested by the Sommelier) and really had an exquisite meal. On top of the fantastic food, the restaurant is simply gorgeous and the service was attentive, professional and relaxed.

Best Lunch Under $60 pp?

She wants to eat things not easily made at home, even by a great home cook. One of the best meals she ever had was the tasting menu at Bouley but that was probably 15 years ago. I also had an unforgettable meal there about 20 years ago. I'm leaning towards returning but wanted to hear other suggestions.

Best Lunch Under $60 pp?

I should have also mentioned that my sister is a fantastic cook so I want her to be "wowed" by the food. Decor is important but comes in second to food.

Best Lunch Under $60 pp?

Wow Kathryn. I follow (and admire) your posts on this board so I'll assume you had that response in the 'vault.' Either that, or you're an incredibly fast typist with an amazing memory.

It will be a lunch on a Thursday or Friday. Probably going to shoot for the first week of February. Aiming for right after the Superbowl but before Restaurant (3) Week starts.

Best Lunch Under $60 pp?

I want to take my sister out for a great meal but I can't afford some of the really high end places like EMP or Per Se. Suggestions on where we could go for a fantastic lunch for <$60 pp (not including tip, tax or beverage)? A tasting menu would be great but it's not a requirement.

Best Tasting Menu NYC

If money is no object, then go to EMP. One of the best meals I've ever had. But if you'd rather not take out a second mortgage for a meal, try Marc Forgione. I don't remember exactly everything that was served as part of the menu but I do recall them asking when we ordered if there was anything we don't like so I'm sure your friend could specify that he doesn't like fish.

Best Tasting Menu NYC

One of the best tasting menus I've had in awhile was at Marc Forgione. My partner and I had it along with the wine/beverage pairing and it was excellent. Every course was fantastic and clearly a lot of thought and testing was put into the pairing. Also, it wasn't break the bank expensive like so many higher end restaurants. I think including a very generous tip, it was about $200 per person.

Best Thai in Manhattan?

I agree with the above poster. I tried them out last night. The food was decent but nothing special. We started with the duck spring rolls. Forgettable. Followed by the crispy pork w/watercress and Pad Kra Pow. Both were good but not great. I'd go back, maybe, if I was in the neighborhood and wanted cheap food.
