visit to Barcelona - reasonably priced

Hi, my mother and I are travelling to Barcelona. We are staying in the Barri Gotic area of the city. We are not looking to spend more than 30 euros a meal and would prefer even less, though a great meal is definitely worth our higher end of the budget just not every day. For most lunches we were thinking of taking food to go from the markets though suggestions would be great. Inexpensive bakeries/breakfast in the area would be great as well. I know there are a ton of suggestions on the board and we are working our way through them. I'm a bit overwhelmed with the tapas selections I have found here. Any suggestions for our area specifically or within a mile of walking. Also, if you could let us know which of your suggestions we need to make reservations for that would be very helpful. We will be there over a weekend so suggestions for a Sunday would also be helpful.

Thanks so much,
Amanda

downtown des moines

thanks all for your suggestions. We ate very well while in Des Moines. We drank lots of beer and had some wings one night at el Baite Shop which was fantastic as we can't get a selection like that out in Kansas where we live. For lunches we stopped at Proof one day and A Dong the next. The food at proof was delicious. It was really nice to have some good seafood (i'm originally from the east coast) and fresh ingredients. A Dong was pretty good. Certainly not the best pho I have ever had, but was easy to walk to and warm during the cold day. Another night we ate at the Raccoon Brewery which was good. We split a mediterranean pizza which was delicious and a bit different crust than I expected which was nice as I'm pretty particular about a traditional crust. We also ate across the hotel at Mr. Filet Steakhouse. Great basic breakfasts and the owner was super friendly and nice. A great way to start the day.

Great, thank you very much. Is there anything in particular you would recommend at A-Dong?

downtown des moines

Hi, I'm going to be traveling to des moines for a conference and staying at the marriott downtown. Are there any good vietnamese or indian restaurants nearby? Or anywhere else you would recommend for some non-hamburger type food.

thanks

Cupcakes

saturday in Lawrence KS

saturday in Lawrence KS

We are going to be in Lawrence on a saturday night and are interested in some recommendations. We are planning on eating around 7 or 7:30 and are looking to eat somewhere without crazy long lines. We have previously eaten at Aladdin's and the indian restaurant in town. We love all cuisine types and would prefer places other than burger bars as we have plenty of those in Manhattan where we live. We also are not looking for anything on the expensive side so we would like entrees in the teens or under.

Thanks,
Amanda

Dinner in OK between Bartlesville and Ponca city

Having started our day with lunch at Oklahoma Joe's outside KC we did not want BBQ for dinner. While driving towards Ponca City to find a place for dinner I noticed noticed or more accurately smelled Bad Brad's. My wife said "I don't want BBQ". After 1/2 mile I turned around and said "tough it smells great we are having BBQ. We shared smoked sausage, fried okra, and cowboy beans. All of which were great. We had fries which were ok and a blackberry cobbler which should be avoided.
Betty, I want to thank you for the mention about the drive on RT 60. It was special. After dinner our westward journey sent us into a gorgeous sunset with quite the panoramic view. BTW my wife was very happy that we stopped at Bad Brads.

american royal bbq festival, KC

Hi, my family is coming to town and wants to go to the festival next saturday. But I'm hearing mixed reviews on the experience that people will get if they don't know any vendors. We're definitely looking forward to one of the musical acts that night but should we not plan on getting any good bbq to eat? How much time during the day would you recommend for us to stay?

thanks

weekday brunch in KC

Hi, I'm going to be in KC with an morning appointment which should be finished around 9:30. We're travelling from Manhattan KS so I'm sure by then we'll be starving. We like all kinds of food and always look forward to our trips in KC so we can go out to more interesting restaurants then what we have in Manhattan. We'll be at the KU medical center but we're willing to drive anywhere in the area (about 30min or so) to eat. Last week we ate at room 39 and loved it but we want to explore other restaurants while we have the chance. It needs to be a sit down (not buffet, one of us is on crutches). We're also not looking for anything particularly expensive (under $20 entree's please).

Thanks,
Amanda

suggestions for lunch near KU medical center

Thanks both of you for your suggestions. We ended up going to room 39 and had a wonderful lunch. Its a nice atmosphere and the food was very good.

suggestions for lunch near KU medical center

thanks both of you for all your suggestions. I will have to try ghenghis khan another time as my friend is on crutches and I think we will enjoy it much more when she can walk. I forwarded the list to her and I'll let you know which one we chose.

suggestions for lunch near KU medical center

Hi, we are looking for good places to eat near the KU medical center. We usually end up at vietnam cafe which is great but we would love to try something different. We aren't looking for anything too fancy or expensive just tasty. Any type of cuisine is fine we eat just about anything.

Thanks so much

food near PSU

Hi, I am going to be in Portland for a conference and I was wondering if there are any places that I should try to eat at. I'm looking for casual places to eat. I will have a lunch break during the day so any suggestions for places close to the campus would be great as I won't have a ton of time to wander. I'm going to try and hit up the farmers market on the saturday I am there for. I eat pretty much any cuisine though I am definitely in need of a break from meat and potatoes as I live in the midwest currently (originally for the east coast).

Thanks

South Dakota recs for a visitor?

In Hill City is the alpine inn which for dinner does filet mignon for a very reasonable price. It's definitely a great spot for dinner. Though I recommend getting there early as there is always a line. In Chayenne Crossing which has great indian tacos. There isn't much to rave about in Wall however. All the restaurants there are in my opinion mediocre (as of 2009 when I was there last). I do like the donuts at wall drug and there is a nice coffee shop across the street.

Help with ideas for ground bison

Thanks for the ideas! I've made some chili and meat sauce so far and they've turned out great. I haven't tried meatball yet as I am worried the meat doesn't have enough fat in it but perhaps if I mix it with some pork it would work out.

Help with ideas for ground bison

Hi, I just bought part of a bison and now I have a ton of ground bison in my freezer. I realized I don't have a wide range of ground beef type recipes and I would love some ideas. Dairy free would be preferable and if you have some that can be made in bulk and frozen in small portions that would be even better. Besides that I'm game for pretty much anything as I love all spice levels and vegetables, etc.

Thanks so much,
Amanda

Legends or nearby in KC

Thanks so much for the suggestions. We had a great dinner at the Frontier steakhouse. Two of us got some fried chicken and the other person in our party got the fish and chips. All the food was really good. The fried chicken had great seasoning and was nice and moist and not super greasy. Just like what i used to get when I lived in GA. My friend said the fish was really good as well. I got some blackberry pie for dessert which was ok. The crust was delicious but the filling was a bit too sweet for my preference. But overall this is definitely the place to go if you are in the area for dinner. Everything else they were serving looked really good as well.

Legends or nearby in KC

Is there any particular dishes at Frontier Steakhouse that you would recommend?

Legends or nearby in KC

Hi, we're going to a soccer game in KC next week and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for dinner. We aren't interested in anything upscale but definitely decent quality. One of us in the party is sick of bbq unfortunately so my usual pick of running to oklahoma joe's is out. I've never actually tried any of the restaurants in legends as they are all chains but are any of them any good? Or is there another dinner option nearby that you recommend?

Thanks.

Kaffir lime leaves?

I've been able to get them at H-mart in Burlington as well.

Manhattan, KS

Thanks, for the suggestion. The brookville has been on my list to try. I don't think we're going to make it there this time as we're having fried chicken for dinner another night this week (unfortunately it probably won't be as good but it's convenient to where we'll be). But I will definitely make an effort to head out there soon.

Amanda

Help please! Hays, KS.

I always just get two pieces of fried chicken with the fries. But a friend always gets the mashed potatoes and likes them. They usually have a three piece chicken special that comes with a salad or soup as well but that's just too much food for me to eat.

Manhattan, KS

Hey all, so my parents are coming for a visit and we have one night out for dinner in Manhattan and I'm wondering if I can get some thoughts on where to take them for dinner. My first thought was coco bolos because its always tasty and its definitely been one of the best places I've found to eat. I've been hearing that the Little Grill is also good and a nice off the beaten path kind of place. Any thoughts? Is it good? I'm not interested in any of the higher end places like Harry's as they live in Boston and I feel like the high end restaurants here don't quite stand up to the ones they have access to where they live. Is there anywhere else I should take them instead?

Thanks for your help.

Boston Chowhounder Visiting the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac

When we stayed there last year we went and ate at the Italian restaurant behind the hotel which I think was called Trattoria Branica. It was definitely better than I expected and was very convenient. Nice atmosphere. A driver from the hotel who had taken us to the metro earlier recommended it and told us to drop his name so we got a free dessert as well which was really not that great so I wouldn't recommend the tiramisu. But the smoked trout appetizer was really nice and we both had pasty entrees that were good. The staff were very pleasant as well which was is always a bonus. Good luck with the dinner search.

Decent Chinese food in Rural Kansas

I second Pusan restaurant. I haven't made it to Korean Garden though I definitely mean to soon but it's our saving grace out this way for decent asian food when we are too lazy to cook.

dinner near uptown theater, kansas city

Thanks so much Heatherkay,
wow all those options sound really good. I haven't had vietnamese in a while and I haven't been very impressed with our thai restaurant here so I'll have to check in with the friend I'm going with. Our show starts early I just found out (6:30) so I don' t think we want to eat too far off the beaten path this time.
