POTUS ordered clam strips on vacation [moved from Boston board]

I'll admit I read it because it was from the Boston board.

POTUS ordered clam strips on vacation [moved from Boston board]

Maybe he ordered them, but didn't eat them. Are there any witnesses to his actually eating said mollusk part? If he did indeed eat them, did he enjoy them? A congressional hearing is in order.

Turner's seafood

I happened upon their website and wondered if either the Gloucester or Melrose location is worth the trip?

Best Cast Iron Skillet?

With all due respect, the reason you can't find a Griswold or Wagner at at a garage sale is that real Yankees are too damn cheap to go out and buy over-priced new cookware when the same pieces of cast iron that our grandparents cooked with, that then was used by our parents are now being used in our kitchens.

ground turkey?

shepards pie...make a little gravy to add for moisture and season with a little bells. A little healthier than ground beef.

Making roux in the oven?

10 minutes? What color are you getting?
I melt the butter on the stove top and mix the flour in just as I put it into the oven. 350 for 30-45 mins. I make a large batch and I go for a dark roux. More flavor, but very limited as a thickening agent.

Making roux in the oven?

I have made it in the oven and it came out quite nice. It takes longer than on the stove top, but no need to constantly stir and check. Also remeber that if you use cast iron for this in the oven it will continue to cook after you remove it for quite awhile. I try to take it out 5-10 mins early,(depending on how it looks), give a quick stir and cover it, and allow the heat of the cast iron complete the process.

I will keep this general so as not to "run afoul" of posting rules.
I am an organizer of a cookoff, run for a charitable purpose. I would like to invite people to enter this cookoff. It is a regional cookoff, that is sanctioned by a governing body.
Would a posting such as this be allowed on the regional board.

Best Microbrew in the North East

I've had most of the brews mentioned here, I'd like to add an up and comer. Cape Ann Brewery out of Gloucester, Ma. If you happen to see Fishermen's Brew or Ale, you won't be disappointed. If you are lucky enough to catch the tasting room open at the brewery, and Tea Party is available, try it, you'll like it.

Mantu Steamer?

Help anyone. Our niece has described a "special" steamer she has seen at a friends. It is a 3 layer steamer, as best I can determine from her "poor" description. My wife would like to surprise her for Christmas. We live in New England, she lives in Florida. My wife does not want to call her and ask more about this steamer, she want's to surprise her. I don't care about shipping, but, is there a specific steamer that would be used? Does anyone have a recommendation? Cost is not an issue, up to a certain point.

Great chow in Lawrence

I live literally right around the corner from Mount Vernon Variety and Deli and I will vouch for their Cubano. I have only had theirs and one other Cubano, (I'm more BBQ), but theirs was fantastic. And I agree they have the best steak and cheese as well.

Deep Fried Turkey....?

Be careful using peanut oil if you share your left-overs. Make sure you mention you use peanut oil. A neighbor of mine has peanut allergies and has actually had a very small reaction just from the aroma while I'm cooking outside.
Of course, we've never had leftovers using on the fried bird so I can't comment on how they taste.

Deep Fried Turkey....?

Our family does the same. My brother in law does the "traditional" bird, I think outside the box, one year I do fried, the next I do a smoked. And the result is the same, fried or smoked is always gone. This year will be fried.

BTW...just found this site today, it won't be the last time i visit.

lunch suggestions off 1-91 between Noho, MA & Woodstock, VT?

Take exit 1 or 2 into downtown Brattleboro, all of the above are there. I'm sorry but don't remeber the names of the places.
