South Boston revival?

Heard that the owners of the Paramount on Charles St. are opening up a 2nd location at the old Fish Pier site. I noticed some construction the other week. I would think this will be a huge hit in Southie.

Terrie's PLace is supposedly turning into a sushi restaurant, but I don't have any specifics.

August 2011 Openings and Closings

I drove by Wolfie's on Friday night, and it was not only open but packed. Saw a lot of plasma TV's hanging on the wall, but really hoping this is different than the typical Southie hangout (Stats, Playwright, etc.)

Also saw that Owl Station Bar & Bistro by the Broadway T stop opened up the other week. Looks nice, but haven't seen many people in there.

Foodie's market in South Boston?

Has anybody heard anything more on the status of the proposed Foodie's in South Boston? I remember reading an article a few months ago indicating a Fall 2011 opening. However, it does not appear any work has commenced at the site.

Casual night out suggestions

My wife and I celebrate our anniversary every year with another couple that shares same anniversary. We typically take a trip each year, but are staying local this year due to both wives expecting. Open to anywhere in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville, but would like to stick with one neighborhood where we can do pre-dinner drink (for the guys) / dinner / dessert. Also trying to keep things very casual this year. My first thought was Inman Square - Bukowski or Druid for a pre-dinner beer, East Coast Grill for dinner, and Christina's / Toscanini for ice cream afterwards (gone are the days of going out drinking afterwards, at least this year!) Any other suggestions in terms of neighborhood and combination of casual bar/restaurant/dessert place? Thanks!

Savin Bar & Kitchen

Glad this is open, and will be checking it out this weekend. Menu looks good, but you would think someone would proofread / spellcheck before publishing it. Riddled with spelling errors! "civeche", "mussles", "chattenay" carrots...the list goes on.

Maybe it is the total nerd in me, but drives me crazy when places go through the massive undertaking of opening a restaurant and have mispellings on menu. Regardless, looking forward to trying it....neighborhood has been missing Donovan's.

October Openings and Closings

New place called Telegraph Hill Kitchen & Bar opened on Dorchester Street in South Boston the other day. Can't find much info online and website still says "Coming Soon".

Donovan's (Savin Hill)

A little disappointed in the change in direction towards "trendy". My wife and I always thought that Donovan's was the perfect fit for Savin Hill, especially in that exact location. When we lived in the neighborhood, it really seemed to fit the bill for reasonably priced mid-week dinners when we didn't feel like cooking.

Was hoping for something similar to Donovan's, though I suppose anything is better than it sitting empty at this point.

August Openings and Closings

Noticed a new place called Telegraph Hill Kitchen & Bar going in on Dorchester Street in Southie, heading down towards Andrew Square (near intersection with Old Colony Ave). There used to be an old dive bar in the space (can't remember name), but new spot looks pretty sleek from the outside. Looks like it is getting close to finished from outside and website is under construction, but really hoping for something other than the standard mediocre pub grub in Southie. Anybody have any more information?

Foodie's market in South Boston?

Foodies is going in on Broadway between C & D Street, where the abandoned nut factory building currently stands. This is great for the neighborhood - not only does it add a much-needed grocery store, but also renovates a total eyesore on Broadway.

Bachelor Party dinner for 10

Anybody have any suggestions for a good place for a bachelor party dinner for 10-12 guys in their late 20's/early 30's. Looking for something moderately priced, in Boston (any area downtown), preferably with a private room option. We'd typically go down the steakhouse path, but just had a big Grille 23 dinner with a lot of the same people, so looking for something a bit different. We are flexible on cuisine, though some are leaning towards Italian. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Martini bar in South Boston near Broadway T Station?

I noticed that this morning also. This is the in the bottom of the Allele building. Wasn't the new Franklin Cafe supposed to be going in here? Haven't heard any additional info over the last month or so, but it looks like it is getting close to completion inside - bar was set up and stocked, tables were out, etc.
