In search of a nice restaurant - Edmonton

Red Ox Inn would be my top pick. They also have a more casual restaurant just west of downtown on 124 St called The Canteen.

Pampa is a great choice because it's a fixed price of $45/person plus drinks and all you can eat. It's quite the experience as well.

Hardware Grill is an upscale restaurant with large portions and prices to match.

I've heard great things about The Marc and corso32.

I could go on but it's dependant on what kind of an evening out she'd like.

Good shwarma in Edmonton?

I've never been to La Shish and it looks like that I won't ever go there based on this news article:

Edmonton: Whyte Ave or Mill Creek recommendations?

How about Doan's for Vietnamese? They have two locations, one of which is just behind Save On, on Calgary Trail south. In fact, I'm going there next week for lunch! Yum!

unflavored gelatin powder in Edmonton

I am pretty sure I've seen them at Bosch Kitchen too. Otherwise, I think my mom has gotten them from K&K on Whyte Ave.

mole in edmonton?

You could also check out Mexico Lindo in the west end, just north of the Mayfield Inn. Their food at Indulgence was delicious and I was there a few weeks ago for a bite. Fresh and authentic.

Jasper, Banff, Yoho

If you're looking for an inexpensive meal in Jasper and like pizza, I would recommend Jasper Pizza. They cook their pizzas in a wood burning oven. Sometimes you get to listen to the cooks sing too. One day, Dwayne Roloson (NHL goalie) came in with his family, while we were there. But nonetheless, it is a very popular place with locals and tourists alike in Jasper. I always get pizza, so I can't say what their other food is like. The wings were not bad though.

In Banff, if you're looking to splurge, I would recommend the Sleeping Buffalo at Buffalo Mountain Lodge. Reservations are recommended. They have an amazing assortment of game. The caribou medallions were incredible. I wouldn't recommend the elk osso bucco though, as I thought there was a lot of fat on it.

For a not-so-expensive evening in Banff, the Elk & Oarsman pub is a good choice for lunch or dinner. For breakfast, Melissa's is a top choice with locals and tourists. Get there early, otherwise prepare for a wait.

Hope this helps!

Fernie, Cranbrook and Sparwood

I recently had the opportunity to spend a weekend at Island Lake Lodge for their cookbook launch. While the party entailed dishes created from the cookbooks, their breakfast and lunch selections were delicious. I wouldn't doubt that their dinners are just as creative and delicious. Just spending some time in this area is amazing.

The lodge is located just outside of Fernie (to the south) and is a 10k drive into an Old Growth Forest. The setting alone is worth the winding drive and during the summer, the lodge is open to the public, whereas in the winter, guests can only reach the lodge via cats. They have, what looks to be, incredible catskiing there too. Otherwise, if you like to hike, I would recommend having a visit, even if you don't stay for the amazing food from such an amazing group of chefs.

As for the market, if it's what I think it was, it was small but had some interesting vendors. I wouldn't recommend the kettle popcorn though, too many unpopped kernels.

3 Amigos-Edmonton

I have never been to 3 Amigos before but I think they have a stand at the Downtown Farmers' Market which usually has a long queue.

I have been to Acajutla once and wasn't too impressed, so I haven't been back.

I have been to Don Antonio's and thought their food was great and although I have only been there once, I would definitely go back. They're located on 124 St and just north of 107 Ave.

Another option would be Mexico Lindo in Mayfield Common. I have heard good things about them and when I tried their food at Indulgence a couple of weeks ago, it was delicious. Their salsa was nice and hot too.

Let us know what you try and what you find is the most authentic.
