DC Restaurant suggestions? Roughly $20 an entree
Will be in DC in two weeks. I will not have a car and I am staying near the mall, so someplace close would be good. I'm open to pretty much any cuisine, but I would like someplace with a nicer atmosphere (of course $20 is not fine dining but I'm not looking for a hole in the wall).
I've read great reviews on Tosca and Obelisk, but a $40 entree isn't in my budget right now.
Thanks for your help!
What was the best tip you got for T'giving cooking?
I've done this for years, but for mashed butternut squash, rather than peeling and cubing the squash before boiling and mashing, I roast it and scoop out the flesh. Simply cut the squash in half, scoop out the seeds, drizzle with evoo, season with salt and pepper, and then roast, cut side down, in a hot oven. When it is completely softened, I just scoop out the flesh and mash it up. The roasting adds a nice depth of flavor you dont get from boiling the squash.
Question on Water Bath and Cheesecakes
I bothered with a water bath for years, just because that is the way I learned. One day, in a rush, I decided to nix the water bath. The cheesecake turned out no differently. Since then I havent bothered with one and I don't miss it at all.
In Search of a Cranberry Turkey Soup Recipe
I found a few on line that look ok, but if anyone has one they have actually tried, please share it with me. Thank you.
Does anyone know what happened to...
the restaurant "New York Soup Exchange?" It disappeared a few years ago from Government Center Plaza. I've looked on line but no clue what happened to it? I couldn't figure out if they moved or maybe opened a new restaurant.
Guests the day after Thanksgiving?
I agree. If you have mini casserole dishes, even better.

Grocery Store Open T-Day
Figured out the blue laws thing a little too late. I didn't think *every* grocery store would be open, but I thought at least one or two. Thanks for those who responded. Unfortunately, what I needed was not at any convenience stores :(

When done right (i.e. when I and only I make it) I love the breast meat with crispy skin. Otherwise, thigh meat.

Oooh, now you made me think to use honey. Maybe a little squirt into the food processor.

Crostini layered with thinly sliced pear, a gorgonzola/walnut/cream cheese spread, and then topped with a curl of proscuitto?
Do you think this is too many ingredients for and appetizer for tomorrow? If so, what would you remove? I was thinking the walnuts, if anything?
Any other highly recommended crostini ideas?
How long does homemade caesar dressing keep?
I made some homemade caesar salad dressing which called for an egg yolk. Does anyone know how long the dressing is safe to eat?
Has anyone tried...?
Maria - that is what I was thinking, but from the way my friend described it I interpreted it to be from SLW or SLWC. No big deal, I will ask him when he is returns from vacation.
Has anyone tried...?
I checked there... it has a separate site. I can't find it. Probably because it is named "RED" and when you google that, well, every red wine comes up.
Need some Advice in Franklin Mass.
I went to 3 and enjoyed it very much. I don't remember details but I remember really enjoying my meal and good service.
Incontro, awful service. Uppity and pretentious.
Why does the Acton/Concord area have NO GOOD RESTAURANTS?
I went there and split a shrimp/beef teppanyaki. It was very good and we spent under $30 and left perfectly full and satisfied. I would definitely go back. the atmosphere is slightly lacking, but its a good place for a weeknight meal.
Indian Appetizers
I have always figured it was a bit Americanized. Nevertheless, it is delicious!
Has anyone tried...?
Not sure. I was able to find the website before but I cannot find it via google.
