Question re. Early Bird Dim Sum

Note that early-bird is usually M-F. I believe weekends don't apply. Besides, dim-sum places open at like 8 on weekends (at least the ones in the burbs do).

Best chinese BBQ Pork

Tried out John's BBQ and will say it was excellent! Dad was a little skeptical, but after the first bite of roasted pork, he was a happy camper! Subsequent diners and take-away patrons ordered something from the BBQ division so we knew we had chosen right. Thanks for the suggestion CH'ers.

Must try Excellent BBQ next time.

Hakka cuisine in Toronto?

Maybe this thread should be renamed to something more appropriate? Indian-Chinese cuisine?

Din Tai Fung in Toronto

Sorry Charles, but isn't this quite obvious for most establishments that are across the pond from Asia? They just use/'steal' the name of famous restaurants to market themselves.

Ding Tai Fung Shanghai Dim Sum

It'd be about 30 - 40 minutes to get from there to DT Toronto for the Jays game, highway.

Ding Tai Fung Shanghai Dim Sum

11AM I guess? It's a large space they have, plus most people have church on Sundays. No line to get in like Cora's, until it gets busy.

Is the new Oliver & Bonacini Café in the old Shopsies (Front St.) open yet?

Not surprising in terms of rectifying a situation. I've been to their Bayview village location many times and one time they turned me from being an unhappy customer that had to wait 10 minutes just to get utensils and service into one that praised their customer service and tipped accordingly (hint: very well for a lunch). It's rare that you get bad service there (by mistake usually) and they're very very good to turning the situation around. Never have I been to ANY restaurant that was able to change my mood like that. Usually I become very very very picky with every little thing when I get bad service.

In terms of the menu, looks very very similar to their Bayview location, without the duck pizza.

Sushi (Spring Garden - North York)

Agreed. Nothing fancy, but if you're looking for sushi nearby, then that's the spot. If not, I go a bit north and go to Sapporo Sushi.

Ding Tai Fung Shanghai Dim Sum

They've been around for a long time, probably 10+ years. I remember when I first went with my mom they had just opened and they literally had to close early in the afternoon because they sold out of xiao long bao. We didn't mind waiting and spent 2+ hours there trying out the foods. Definitely did not disappoint. Dining room was packed for the dinner crowd so lucky we went early.

Luminato - 1000 Tastes (June 19th and 20th 2010) - Queens Park

Went today. Didn't see the switch up though. Had Susur's cheeseburger springroll (first time really ever trying Susur's foods) and it wasn't bad, but the lettuce didn't look fresh. Poutini also my first time and the curds could not melt, will have to try at their restaurant. Kobe beef hotdog was very very very juicy, as it literally was squirting (Probably goes down as the most juiciest hotdog I've ever had). The Somali foods were pretty good actually. Also had oysters from Rodney's Oyster Bar and it was pretty decent deal (4 for $5).

Restaurants I love, you hate

I say sheep/herd, although there are some other good ones that hit the nail on the head. I read more than post and maybe I should EAT more than post lol...

Dim Sum at 'Ka Lung Court', Richmond Hill - Not bad at all!!

Where is this Regal Palace on Yonge?

Dim Sum at 'Ka Lung Court', Richmond Hill - Not bad at all!!

I am a cart fan myself. Sometimes you don't know what you want when you go for dim sum, but when you hear them screaming out what they have on their cart, you order right then and there. Arguably, card ordering is made fresh to order in a sense. Cart is freshest for first batch/round, as is dishes in general.

Dim Sum at 'Ka Lung Court', Richmond Hill - Not bad at all!!

Tried today, ordered four items:

1-Siu mai
2-Fried tofu rice roll
3-Steamed BBQ pork bun, traditional way (as per the menu)
4-Seafood cream pie

1-Wrap was falling off when picking it up, nothing spectacular
2-Seemed reheated to me for some reason, rice roll was thin as per your observation Charles, plus the soya sauce dispenser was not clean (had drops of soya sauce all over it)
3-Good, flavourful, decently juicy
4-Great crust for sure, strong mushroom flavour or something in the filling, might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Service was, well... it isn't anything to cry home about and is somewhat stereotypical. The rice roll didn't look appetizing and the water cress that went along with it didn't help either. I'll go back for the seafood cream pie and steamed bbq pork buns.

The best of Markham and Richmond Hill

Miu Garden for Chinese. The dim sum isn't bad (went yesterday) and there's already good reviews about their evening dining. I have yet to try dinner there though.

RIP Cuisine of India

Oh my... I lived across the street from there for a decade and NEVER tried. I heard it was good, but just never went :(

I will have to try their new location when they move.

Northern Chinese Food - Great NEW find in Richmond Hill!

Must try out sometime. I'm not a fan of Asian Legend anyways so it can't disappoint lol.

Place to catch up with a friend near Steeles?

Steeles Deli? Yonge/Steeles area.

Pearl City Restaurant 4664 Yonge Street, Near Sheppard Any reviews?

Looking at the menus, I'm quite skeptical. Looks more Chinese-Western? Unless that's what they're going for? More reviews please. Would be good to see a decent Chinese place around Yonge area.

Toni Bulloni - Thornhill

Might have to try this place... Although as a child, I was made fun of with this name :(

Guu is Guu(d) – review + pics

Risky, but would be nice to have one in the 'burbs :)

I don't know how long it took them to get so many locations in Vancouver, or maybe it's a Vancouver thing to expand quick in Toronto (T&T supermarket comes to mind when they expanded to many locations very quickly).

GOOD Pizza in NW Calgary?

Matadors. One of the few things I miss after moving back to Toronto (that and P&S).

Probably 9/10 tables order pizza, and that doesn't include take-out.

Silver Carriage HK style restaurant/cafe - Gem of a find!

Went yesterday. Ordered the same congee as you Charles, plus a Hainanese chicken rice. Congee was good, although I suggest mixing it a little bit as my first taste I got a taste of pepper. The chicken however looked undercooked to me (very very light pink on the meat). Wait staff need to be more attentive though. The table beside us was getting frustrated just trying to get service. Getting the change from our bill caused a mix up as well. They're not rude at least, and do apologize for their mistakes. Probably try again later on down the road.

Silver Carriage HK style restaurant/cafe - Gem of a find!

Looks like a place I can try out tomorrow when I'm up north. We'll see how that goes!

Breakfast in Markham / Richmond Hill / Thornhill

Must try it sometime, so it's near the Esso station?

Miu Garden - Cheap & Good Chinese Food (review + pics)

I've been there for dim sum, so long as it's the same restaurant from May 2009 (that's when I went). It was pretty good, so I'll have to try it out for dinner sometime.

Do you find Winterlicious a rip-off?? Or is it just me.

The O&B group is generally a safe bet during 'licious events. I must make my way to Biff's one day, regardless if it's during 'licious or not.

Do you find Winterlicious a rip-off?? Or is it just me.

Skipped the last 2 years of 'licious events due to me being out of Toronto. Now that I'm back, I'm skipping in general due to restaurants having difficulty bringing their A-game. I'll agree that there are some gems in the listings, and it's because of those gems that I've gone outside of 'licious events. Of course I was young and naive during the early years of 'licious, and now know better :) Plus, with prices going up, I might as well go at regular times and order something better.
