Lewes17266's Profile

Any reports from Jimmy's Grille in Dewey Beach?

I don't remember so well but I think their only sides were mac and cheese, fries, cole slaw and corn on the cob. Their entire menu is in big letters on the slanted ceiling.

Is your kitchen the heart of your home?

One of our first and least expensive homes was probably my favorite because of the way the small kitchen opened up onto a screened porch which had an attached deck that led to a very private fenced backyard. We had some good times in those small but functional spaces. We were able to have some good parties there and good personal and peaceful quiet times as well. There is just something nurturing about bringing the outdoors into living quarters.

Is your kitchen the heart of your home?

If your kitchen is really the heart of your home please tell me why. What kinds of things do you do in your kitchen other than cook and eat?

I would like to change my screen name.

After setting up my account I realized there is a "Lewes" who comments in my area and was here first. I think I would like to change my name. How do you suggest I do this? Should I ask you to cancel me as "Lewes17266" and just set up a new account?

Hey Bob W. I thought I really ought to pass on this article for closure since I shared all the negative press.

Rehoboth - a Week of Eats - feeding Big Guys then a Gal's weekend - Part 2 - Happy Hour and Snacks

I am embarrassed to tell you that I have never been to DiBonaventure's even though I pass it all the time and have read about the couple who own it. I will drop in now that you've mentioned it. "Kogler's Old World" is a regular vendor at our Farmer's Market so that's where we pick up our bakery bread but that will be ending in October.

onealexis, I did get to Pasqualini's since our discussions and I plan to go back again and again. I brought home a keylime pie, a frozen lasagna and bread for dinner that night. It was all absolutely delicious. I am glad to have found out about this very special hidden gem from a visitor!

Gramercy Tavern tonight - Tasting menu, which substitutions?

i am just jealous
call me "jealous"
if i were there i would not sub a thing

Lewes DE Trip Report (a little Rehoboth and Dewey too)

I am glad that the two (Oby Lee and The Bake Shop) have those cranberry oatbran muffins that I love so much with their coffee in the winter.

Lewes DE Trip Report (a little Rehoboth and Dewey too)

Many Second Street restaurants are tiny. Half Full and The Bake Shop can be frenetic also but then in the off season they are such special places.

Kindle - New Lewes restaurant

I did finally get to the new Kindle for lunch on Saturday and it was a good experience. My husband recently had an excellent dinner there and was determined to get me there too. I loved it!
There were three of us and we were seated right away inside and felt welcome. I had the tarragon chicken salad sandwich and baby greens with champagne vinaigrette for $9. My husband had the BLAT ("a" for avocado) with fries for $7, and our son had the ham and brie sandwich with fries for $9. We were all very happy with our food, the service and the atmosphere. My husband and son say they will go back again for a burger because they looked so good. They offer a salmon lunch entree for $18, what I will have on my next visit. We did not order drinks but look forward to having a glass of wine at that beautiful bar sometime in the future.
I had heard complaints about the prices but I can tell you that these particular lunch entrees are not overpriced. The burger is $12 but is not your average burger from what we observed.

what do you think are deceptively difficult dishes? easy to take for granted if you're not knowledgable?

I do that too occasionally.

St. Michael's Md--- best seafood restos

I have seen some recent St. Michael's discussions on the Mid Atlantic Board so be sure to search over there.

Lewes DE Trip Report (a little Rehoboth and Dewey too)

Actually, my husband was at Kindle on Monday evening with a large party. There were at least ten men there, maybe more. They ordered drinks and appetizers, salads, entrees across the spectrum, and desserts. He said there was not a misstep. He described it as upscale but comfortable. He had a ribeye that he said was enormous and perfectly cooked well done, without attitude. He is not quite ready with only one visit to rank it up there with Fish On, but it just may be in that league. It sounds like their menu is very creative, not at all ordinary.
He promised me he would take me soon!
There is a thread here about Kindle with some negative comments though, so we will just have to see.
My husband also goes to The Buttery with business associates on occasion and brags on it. He says it feels to him like the perfect Second Street restaurant for a special lunch.
I love love love Half Full!

Yes, fill a large pot with salted water and bring it to a boil, then add whatever measure of rice you need, give it a stir, and let it boil for about 12 minutes. Turn off the heat and cover it and begin checking it for doneness within a few minutes. When it is done pour the rice into a colander. Rice cooked in this manner is not sticky. I did this until recently. The only negative I can see in this method is that you have to stay with it and pour it out as soon as it is done; if you do not, it is no good.

Normandie, My mother-in-law made perfect rice every time. She cooked it as if it were pasta. I have never seen anyone else cook rice in that way.
I have recently discovered the orange box of Uncle Ben's regular white rice. I follow the directions on the box and the result is always perfect.
We eat a lot of rice.

Best place to eat in Beaufort, SC

Beaufort is my favorite Southern town. I live in Delaware now and am very happy but she-crab soup is something I miss almost as much as barbeque and my family.

Lewes DE Trip Report (a little Rehoboth and Dewey too)

I haven't seen that one. That is so cool. I will have one on my old beach buggy soon!

Lewes DE Trip Report (a little Rehoboth and Dewey too)

Hi Bob W. Thanks for this. I am pleased that you and yours had a nice time here in Lewes.

The Blue Plate serves a wonderful "Eggs Delmarva" which is a menu item you will find at other restaurants in the area. It is like Benedict but with lump crab in place of the meat.

We think Jerry's Crab Bomb is worth the price too. I especially like that it is baked. Jerry's is offering a raw bar now but it is not good, not at all, and I am relieved you did not go for oysters there.

My favorite item at Cafe Azafran is the house-made granola over yogurt for breakfast. My mother from South Carolina has one of their purple coffee mugs and uses it every morning. She loves the place when she visits.

I have not eaten at Beseme yet. I have stepped inside and it is lovely, I agree. They often advertise fried chicken on their corner easel so we want to give that a try soon.

You already know how I feel about The Bake Shop; love it.

I have a neighbor who is originally from Baltimore and she also loves Crabby Dick's! We have been but were not so impressed but have never had their crabs so now we will have to return. Their Old Bay popcorn is wonderful. The atmosphere is fun.

Our experiences at Lazy Susan's have only been excellent. I wish yours had been also. I would only recommend steamed crabs and shrimp there though.

We do love Louie's pizza and wish it were more convenient for us. I have seen some amazing grinders coming out of that little Louie's kitchen. Bob W, we are not fans of the very popular Grotto Pizza.

Thanks again for your opinions. I feel very fortunate to live here. Have a good day!

Captain's Table, Ocean City Maryland - yuk...

The Fausto website is very nice. I am impressed. This is good to know. Thanks.

Colonial Williamsburg

AMFM, Do you know anything about a barbeque restaurant near that town called Virginia Barbeque? I think there are a few, but one recently opened near me in Ocean Pines, Maryland. We have not found good barbeque since we moved to Delaware from the Carolinas. This place advertises two barbeque styles, "North Carolina" and "Virginia" so we are hopeful.

Just got back from seeing Julie & Julia

I found this about Julia and wanted to share it. It is a lovely obituary from Legacy: http://www.legacy.com/ns/fullstory.aspx?storytype=1&storyid=41

Best Buys - Rehoboth Beach

Hi again shopgirl. Both are in Rehoboth. The downtown Adriatico is definitely better (with a dining porch facing Baltimore Avenue) but I think the deals are only offered at the Midway location.

Raleigh area breakfast options?

meatn3,
Have you been to Foster's Market in Durham? They used to offer breakfast into the afternoon on weekends. I would say their kitchen approached its breakfast specials in creative ways with seasonal and local ingredients.
We liked Elmo's for breakfast too. It is not a Chowhound favorite however, I found that out.

Best Buys - Rehoboth Beach

Wow. This is a really nice review. Thank you. We will eventually get to these restaurants. I might just ride my bike down the trail to Lupo soon for that white bean dip with crostini and a glass of wine. The Pickled Pig sounds like it has my name written all over it - a place to "kick back." Three beers are normal for me! I rarely drive.
S. Woody, I think the best bargains are coming in September. In Lewes we will soon be able to buy a bottle of wine at Half Full and get a free pizza then at Striper Bites we can get half-price burgers again soon. Which nights I do not know yet but I will let you know.
Also, Adriatico has a great deal on Wednesday nights all year. If you pay with cash you get an entree free with an entree. http://www.rehoboth.com/adriatico/specials.html

Rehoboth Beach, DE Fine Dining

Hi Overeater. S. Woody gives good advice so here is a recent post that you might find helpful: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/645534
Lupo Di Mare might be a nice choice for your special dinner here. I have not been but it looks beautiful and has received several good reviews here at Chowhound in addition to this one from S. Woody.
You might like Fish On in Lewes for a special occasion. We have been many times and are never disappointed. Blue Coast is probably just as good since it is run by the same group, which also runs Lupo.
My husband and I have been twice to Porcini House, once for lunch then with friends for dinner. We really like the place a lot. We were just surprised that their lunch and dinner menus were the same and it is a rather small menu too. It is more quaint, but still quite nice.
I love Cafe Azafran but have only been for breakfast and lunch, never for dinner. It is much more casual and is very small.
I think you would love any of these restaurants.

Raleigh area breakfast options?

I meant to mention Brig's in Cary too. Brig's was very popular a few years ago. There were often lines outside the door on weekend mornings. I am not sure if they offer breakfast all day.

Raleigh area breakfast options?

We enjoyed Gypsy's Shiny Diner when we lived in Raleigh. I don't think anything else from there is good though (except their butterfly chips) but we always loved their breakfast offerings.
