Prague and Budapest

'Ive eaten at cafe Kor several times over the last couple of years when I'm in town..... The service has ALWAYS been great and the food amazing.. The pate de fois gras and steak Rossini are beautiful as is the Hungarian sponge cake desert.. Excellent wine list as well... Sad to hear that some folks have had a bad meal... Skip the lunch rush and ,make you reservation for 1:00 p.m..
The fois sushi at Tom Geroge is to die for!

Great Steaks in Paris

I ate at L'OAC right after Christmas.. the 27th.... They had Irish and German entrecote.. When i asked if they had French beef the waiter laughed me off... Bit snooty... The pate fois gras was excellent though as was the house Cote du Rhone for 24 Euros..

Great Steaks in Paris

After eating a very good steak at La Rotonde and a so so steak at L'AOC I would highly recommend Boucherie Rouliere for a great classic meal of snails, a beautifully done entrecote, cheese, desert and wine...at a much better price than either La Rotonde and L'AOC.. both of which, by the way were fine.... A bit of advice.. Spring for the beef ribs for two at L'AOC and avoid the steaks... They were NOT serving French beef which was strange.. and sad....

Overwhelmed

I had a wonderful beef meal at L'AOC ... Great place... laid back... good pates and the beef for 2 was amazing .. beautiful mashed potatos and excellent wine...We are going back in a couple of weeks for more.. Reasonably priced as well..... check out their website...www.restoaoc.com

Need a good Beef Fix...Boucherie Rouliere?

Thanks.... i shall try various combinations ABOVE and see what happens. Cheers.

Notes on our trip to the 4th arr.

Cool.... It makes me want to rent an apartment so I can can cook as well.... Shopping for food in a food city is always a high point.. ( especially if one has the facilities to cook!)

Need a good Beef Fix...Boucherie Rouliere?

Interesting..... I like rare.....but not raw..... it sounds like " a point " may be TOO cooked? It needs some pinkness....

Need a good Beef Fix...Boucherie Rouliere?

I have made reservations at the Boucherie based on what i have read about it.... I am looking for a GREAT steak...Anyone eaten there?.... Also, I hear that Parisians like their steaks VERY rare.... I prefer medium rare.... How does one insure a medium rare steak ?

What about Oysters in Paris?

Great.. I have a reservation on Christmas Eve at La Rotonde.....Will give them a try!

What about Oysters in Paris?

Back in the days I lived in Oregon i enjoyed some of the smaller local oysters... To be honest the huge varities may well freak out my Polish wife as well.... ( she has never eaten one in her life) Any recomendations for a tasty oyster on the small and delicate side during our December visit? Are they usually ordered by the half dozen? Can one order a mixed tasting plate?

What about tipping in Paris???

Interesting.. As I have travelled from country to country I have generally followed the dictates of Hemingway ( one of the great friends of the table) whose caveat was ALWAYS overtip... that way you will be treated like a king the next time around... More often than not iI have found this to be true... if indeed the service warranted the $$$$......Once again.. what a great site... Good to hear from the folks who know....

What about tipping in Paris???

Is the tip always included in a Parisian restaurant bill? I feel a bit sheepish asking the waiter...... As well, is an additional gratuity expected even if the bill includes service and what would be a nice additional sum for good service..?? Its always nice to have a good waiter remember you on the next visit....

What about Le Fontaine Gaillon?

A friend sent me a blurb about Gerard Depardieu's place and it sounds very niece as well as surprisignly affordable. Having read many foody vignettes about the famous actor written by his friend the author Jim Harrison I wonder how it reviews with the locals? It would hardly seem to be a mere vanity project considering Depardieu's well know love and knowledge of good food.

Wine bottle etiquette... Take Away Ok??

aha.... I hadn't thought about that... My fear is killing a bottle with lunch will make me a bit sluggish AND I hate ordering just the glass.... Thanks... Good excuse for polishing off the bottle anyway.. no use looking gauche...

Where can I eat in Paris Christmas Eve and Day??

I checked my email from L'AOC again.. They will closed on the 24th and 25th... Open on the 26th for lunch and dinner...

Wine bottle etiquette... Take Away Ok??

I like to order a bottle of wine for lunch .. If I dont finish it is it bad form to cork the bottle and take it with you in Paris? Will i be looked upon as a barbarian by the staff?

Where can I eat in Paris Christmas Eve and Day??

Wow.... Let me know ..They told me they would be closed 24th and 25th!

Where can I eat in Paris Christmas Eve and Day??

Many thanks to all.... L'AOC was kind enough to reply to an email . Sadly they will be closed until the 26th..( I've booked then.. a great place where I enjoyed an escellent dinner a couple of summers ago) but they did go out of their way to help when i asked them who they thought would be open the 24th and 25th . They took the time to reply that they though La Rotonde would be open and recommended them... Very gracious!

Where can I eat in Paris Christmas Eve and Day??

I'm arriving on the 24th of December and most places seem to be closed of course.. Any ideas around the Latin Quarter? 5th 6th arrondissement or nearby?? Xmas eve and the 25th ... Cheers...
