Easter week in Paris - what's open?
Thank you! My husband and I just booked a flight with miles - not much else was still available in April. We're arriving Easter Monday morning, leaving the following Sunday, and were a bit worried we'd end up with few options that week. Looking forward to mining this board for great ideas!

I know most everything will be closed Easter Monday, but what about later that week? -- in particular, will Michelin-starred-level places be open, say on the Thursday, Friday, Saturday following Easter?

Tasting Room Restaurant: closed for good?
The Tasting Room has been a regular on our list for NYC visits since their days on the L.E.S. when they only had 6 or 8 tables. We're getting ready for our next trip, in Feb, and were surprised to see the message on the website that both locations have closed, no details given. Anyone know what happened? Are the chefs and/or owners moving elsewhere?
Christmas Day dinner for family
From what I've read on other posts on this same topic (just search this board for "Christmas"), many places are closed on the 25th, and those that are open, especially the classic ones with the Reveillon menus, fill up well in advance - as in, weeks ago. Try the hotels, or also check online to see what's at opentable.com. I'd call asap, though - would not wait til "later this week" at this point.
Luke for Christmas Day? Also, CE decision.
Dinners at Herbsaint, Brigtsen's, cooking class/dinner at the New Orleans Cooking Experience, and one night we'll probably stand at the bar at Acme and just have oysters :) Sunday brunch at Commander's. Can't wait!

Sib, we're eating at Stella on Christmas eve as well .... the menu looks fantastic! We are renting an apt. for the week, so since we'll have a kitchen, decided to go to Langenstein's and St James Cheese and a few other places to pick up prepared food, and just relax and eat in on the 25th.
Desylicious -- not sure about the status at Luke, but another reason you might have had no difficulty getting the reservation could (?) be that many people are opting for a big mid-day or mid-afternoon meal on Xmas Day, similar to Thanksgiving, rather than eating at 'normal' dinner time. In any case, try OpenTable. Looks like they still have tables for 2 at Zoe, Windsor Court and a few other places in the evening.

We are staying on Esplanade Avenue, in the 1900-2000 block (the Degas House is in the 2300 block if that helps) -- it is advertised as being "walkable to the French Q" and the Marigny area. Are there any good restaurants in the immediate neighborhood we should check out? And can one realistically (i.e., safely) walk to the FQ/Marigny from there these days?

(Paging Bill Hunt ... the wine selections you mention in your restaurant reviews are superb! You appear to be a Burgundy fan, as are we ... are those good bets with local dishes?)
Another Christmas question: are we crazy?
Seems like there are several of us making plans for celebrating in N.O. this year! We have late reservations (Stella!) on Christmas Eve followed by midnight Mass, so are planning on sleeping in late on the 25th. We'll be renting an apartment for the week, and had the idea of eating in, instead of fighting for a scarce reservation, but are not sure whether this is doable or not. I've seen a few posts below for good takeout places -- are there any near the Marigny area we should focus on? How about other (not-necessarily-native) gourmet groceries in the area, for items like caviar etc? Will these places even be open on the 24th?
As for the menu choices (assuming this is not a totally crazy idea): what will do best the day after it's purchased: we're thinking jambalaya, etouffee etc. might even improve with an overnight, like good chili does. Thoughts on that? Or anything to avoid (other than the obvious - fried stuff, etc.)?
Recommendations for cooking classes in the city?
My husband and I will be spending a week in N.O. over Christmas and have been eagerly scrolling through the previous postings on this board as we put our restaurant wish-list together! ... We're also hoping to do a cooking class while there: we're staying in the Marigny area and will not have a car, so are looking for something in-town, and preferably less than a day (a half-day course would be ideal) since we also want to fit in lots of lunches, dinners, and generally exploring the city. Thanks for any suggestions!
