Queen's Deli

Just had an excellent meal at Queen's Deli in White Center. Good Cambodian fare in a family run setting. There is a deli counter for takeout and ten tables so it would be good for takeout. I noticed that they posted the time of day that the sandwiches were made which would be reassuringif you were concerned about freshness. It is a fine place to put a little Khmer in your life. I know I want to return. It's in the 9800 block of 14th SW

Cascade Fresh Yogurt is gone!

My favorite sour cream and yoghurt are made by Wallaby and no longer available at my Whole Foods. The sour cream was much better than any other I have tried and the yoghurt is excellent. Does anyone know where I can get those products?

Recommendation for 3 days (French, seafood)

I like Rays cafe or bar for something simple like a bowl of clams and an unusual view of the entrance to the ship canal and the Shilshole Marina. Le Pichet is nice all day from eight to late. Everything is delicious within a small menu.

Wild shrimp?

I'm sorry to report that the Roosevelt WF no longer carries the kind of shrimp I recommended. They now have some different options that I haven't tried.

Wild shrimp?

The Hat Trick spots are truly excellent. If they come to the University Farmers Market I'll be buying. A more available option is the largest Florida pinks from Whole Foods at about $17 a pound. Not as great as the spots but quite good.

I always enjoy Salvatore too. The long time waitstaff and the fact that the owner is often in the kitchen and now his daughter (granddaughter?) is working the front make it very comfortable. That said for at least twice the price Cafe Juanita is good for a splurgy celebration but I can't walk home as I can from Salvatore.

ISO nam khao [tod] and sai oua, Lao dishes in Seattle

We have enjoyed the nem mou at Savatdee.and the sausage at Thai Palms, if they still serve it. I have been to Saffron Deli once and noted that there was sausage on the menu of this tiny friendly family style place which happens to be right next door to Noodle Boat, a very good Thai restaurant. Also, the Isan Thai place, Pestle Rock in Ballard has what they call Thai sausage which may be very similar as there are apparently overlaps between Lao food and Isan. I am addicted to their larb.

Saffron Deli and Pastry

Tried to go to Noodle Boat today but it was closed Sunday for lunch so we went a couple doors away to the Saffron Deli and Pastry. Now I have to go back to Issaquah for Noodle Boat and another visit to Saffron. A regular customer advised us to try two of the Lao specials on the window display which were a noodle hicken curry soup and fried pork roll lettuce wraps. Both were very good and the warmth of the owner who is Lao and her daughter were welcoming and informative and there are several Lao specialties. I need to try the Lao sausage and I understand that the Pho is distinctive with a more concentrated flavorful stock. Laab was not yet on the menu due to a printing delay but if I had known I would have tried that. The decor is very family style with a certain amount of clutter.

Source for Good Bread Flour In Seatle??

Hi Kaleo,

I make 12 to fifteen loaves of no knead a week to give away and it's pretty popular. I buy the fifty pound bag labelled bread flour from some giant commodities corp at Costco. I've seen Morbread flour at Cash and Carry and I think they have a variety of flours. That was in a 100 lb bag but I think I've seen some fifties since then. I have no idea how I would get a 100 lb bag into the house.

Moderately Priced Italian

Salvatore on Roosevelt might be right. Pastas are around $15 and veal at $21. The owner is the chef. Kind of old fashioned and in that location for decades.
Bar Del Corso on Beacon Hill is newer with wood fired pizza and small plates including octopus and meat balls for $10 and under as well as a number of vegetables and salads.
