Picolinos in Ballard

This place leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of the legal machinations used to evict Regnor's and Cary's pottery studios in order for the restaurant to be developed in defiance of the deceased owner's will.

Group Lunch in University District Area

I like the Continental Restaurant and Pastry Shop just south of 47th on the West side of U Way.
Ask for feta on your lamb burger if that is what you order.

Greg Atkinson's Marche on Bainbridge

Thanks PAO. We have been invited to a birthday dinner next Saturday.

Is Nook ever open?

There were customers being served yesterday early afternoon.

Where to buy seafood?

I can't help with Bellevue but in Seattle I like Mutual Fish on Rainier, Uwajimaya (I haven't been to the one on the East side in a while and the last time was there it wasn't as good as the Seattle one.) University Seafood and Poultry in the U District, and the Fresh Fish Company in North Ballard.

Durum flour in Seattle?

If Semolina is OK PFI has it in bulk at a reasonable price.

Restaurants near Safeco Field

Saigon Deli is my usual pre baseball stop.

Dish--Quality Creep?

I think you are talking about the Continental Cafe in the 4500 block of U Way. It seems an unchanging institution with a loyal following. It is family run and consistently good with a view of the foot traffic on the Ave for entertainment.

Kaua'i Report, November 2010

Wonderful post kaleokahu.
Do you by chance have any idea what the small reddish fish is that I saw in the grocery at Waimea that turns the cooking oil red ?

Dot's Deli, Fremont

I have enjoyed the Hot Italian, chorizo, brat, garlic , hot Italian , Merguez, hot links and the Toulouse. I intend to frequent the place.

Best Burger in Seatown?

Uneeda has the only elkburger I've seen on any menu for $12 . I guess they come from a game ranch where they are executed by ""sportsmen" . I would have ordered it instead of my usual classic with bacon had I seen it.

New to Lake City Way-Need recommendations for restaurants.

I second Chiang's

New to Lake City Way-Need recommendations for restaurants.

I haven't been to Toyoda Sushi lately but I used to be pretty regular and always enjoyed it. There is a little deli South of 125th on the East side of Lake City Way that sells prepared Iranian dishes called confusingly the Pacific Market. I haven't been there but I am curious if anyone else has.

great seattle pasta or vietnamese

My usual favorite Vietnamese is Lemongrass on Jackson but a party of ten might overwhelm this small and casual place. The best equipped for a festive dinner might be the reliable Tamarind Tree with quite good service and a large menu with a variety of festive beverages. This comes, of course with somewhat higher prices. The Greenleaf in the ID is small but usually busy so they might be able to handle a large party with reservations These three are all more expensive than several options on Rainier Ave which are not so westernized as the the Tamarind Tree and Greenleaf. The Lemongrass on Jackson is patronized by knowledgeable Vietnamese but is not he cheapest bun thit in town.

Fast food Greek

I had octopus at Taki's and it was quite good.

Fast food Greek

I second the Continental.

Snout and Co.?

Mine was pressed and had pork and ham.

Snout and Co.?

I just ate there and had a half a South Carolina style barbecue pork and a half Cuban sandwich. Of the two I liked the Cuban ($7) best and the pork sandwich ($6) wasn't as flavorful as I might have hoped although it had a generous amount of tender meat. (Those prices are for whole sanwiches.)

Ballard area pizza delivery

The last time I saw Andre, earlier this year, he was working in meat dept of the Roosevelt Whole Foods. I have known him since he had the little brick pizza place in Ballard. I have always enjoyed conversation with him. He enjoys Seattles cool cloudy weather after his stint in the French Foreign Legion when he was young.

Gluten Free~ Greater Seattle

You might try the Flying Apron bakery and coffeeshop in Fremont.

French Macarons in Seattle?

I've only had them at Honore' where they have a variety of colorful flavors.

What's good at Costco?

Here's my list ; Kirkland Toscano EVO, Kirkland creamy American blue cheese, Kirkland Romano and Parmigiano, 120z pack of prosciutto, Tasso kalamata olives, Kirkland espresso beans, Kirkland (house) brand wines, pistachios in the shell or any nuts really, In Seattle at least, the fresh Dungeness crab meat at about $19 a tub, organic spinach or mesclun salad, 50lb bag of bread flour, If you are having enough people the four packs of prime steaks are great. Anyuthing with the Kirkland label is reputed to be 40% less than equivalents and this is close to the truth. There is an increasing number of very high quality foods, Other people say that the rotisserie chicken is the best but I haven't tried it.

For tonight -- newer, nice restaurant heavy on local ingredients and open Sundays?

Over a number of years I have never been disappointed by Lark.

Picking up a picnic on the way to the zoo

Dot's is pretty cool , a cook with the best food tatoos ever and the stupendous sausage sandwich $8.

Dishes that feature Salmon Skin?

My wife and I frequent a funky good Japanese place in Wallingford called Kozue, right next door to the big rusty Thai place and four doors from Molly Moon's. Salmon skin spinach is on the menu as well as salmon skin rolls. At happy hour the salmon skin is under five dollars. another favorite is pressed anago sushi, which I haven't seen elsewhere. This is no cookie cutter place and surprises appear regularly along with a pretty good sake selection.

Dried chiles

I second HT Market.

Freshly Relocated to South Seattle. Seeking council from veteran eaters of the area.

Best (or decent) Chinese in QA/Fremont/Wallingford/Univ. District?

The last time I was at Chiang's Gourmet on Lake City Way it was still good.

Seattle Trip Report

Mouth numbing is definitely part of the Sichuan flower pepper experience.
