Manhattan Beach Recommendations

We'll be staying in Manhattan Beach first week of the year! What's good? Any Farmer's markets, flea markets in the area that we must check out!
Thanks!!!!

Wright House tour in Oak Park - need lunch recs

Marion Street Cheese Shop on Marion in down town Oak Park is great. Love the wine and cheese plates.

Marion Street, in general, has lots of little places to check out. There's a buffet Indian place that's really good, but the name fell out of my head. And Bleeding Heart Bakery is just around the corner.

reasonable priced meat market

Peoria Packing on Lake and Elizabeth.

Tamales, NW IN or South 'Burbs?

Same as here. Check out your local Mexican Grocery stores or Tony's Super Store.

Restaurant / Kitchen Wholesale Supplier

Northwest Cutlery is the best.

BE ON TV AND GET FREE FOOD AT GARFIELD PARK CHICAGO!!!

Shoot. I have to work! Garfield Park Conservatory is great.

Mexican Coke

I LOVE Tony's N. Riverside!

Unusual Fried Food - Idea Needed

We do the same thing. Brussel sprouts are great, so are avocados. Sage leaves deep fried make a lovely addition to the turkey platter.

How to make sweet potatoes tasty (i.e. not so sweet)?

Cube and roast them, as you would with a potato, with onion, garlic, olive oil, lots of salt and pepper. Don't add anything sweet.

Dinner suggestions near VIC Theatre?

I like Mi Terra on Belmont. Just west of the Vic. It's good American Mexican food at decent prices.

Mexican Breakfast

La Quinta makes a great breakfast with house made tortillas.

Too late to plant bulbs in NYC?

You can plant until the ground freezes. Last year, in Chicago, we had a foot of snow and then a major thaw in the middle of November. The snow created insulation and kept the ground from freezing. I got the last of my bulbs in and then the squirrels found them. This year, chicken wire!

Pasta Machine Me! Pass on your Pasta Making Knowledge!

Every winter I take on a project with the intestacy of Bourdain scraping that last piece of marrow from a bone.

Two years ago, it was how to roast the perfect chicken and what to do with the lovely carcass. Last year was all about roasting, braising meats, mostly shank. This year it's Pasta!

What can you recommend? Books, Machines, Techniques. I have a kitchen aid mixer and have found several used parts on Ebay/craigslist. I'm all for buying good quality machine but that doesn't have to be new.

Thank you for your help!!!!

Gingko nuts for free!!

Email me at stuccolow at gmail

My tree is in the front of the house, so you wouldn't be coming into my yard to get them. The nuts are stinky little orange things. Take them all! I'm tired of tracking them into my house.

Gingko nuts for free!!

We have a female gingko too that will be dropping nuts. We're in FP so if you have any takers you can send them towards us.

Arena eats: anything out of the oridinary at the United Center?

There's tons of places on Randolph Ave. It's a bit of a hike, but not bad. You should try Publican.

Sustainable Thanksgiving Turkey

Oak Park Restaurant Gift Certificate

Marion Cheese Shop is great.

Would love your opinions regarding an evening at Trotter's

Yes. The Kitchen Table is Worth the Extra. Do It!

Pizza crust help, please

Ok, how about D'matos on Grand. But with out a car you maybe sol.

Pizza crust help, please

In Oak Park,
Trattoria 225, great pizza and Italian food.
http://www.trattoria225.com/
Pompei is fine, but mass produced
You probably want to go to Freddy's Pizza for real pizza, http://www.yelp.com/biz/freddys-pizza-and-gelateria-cicero
But I don't think there is an easy way to get there without a car.
My fav pizza place is Jimmy's on Madison in Forest Park, but it's more of the crispy cracker crust.

road trip - seattle to west glacier

In Glacier there is a town (commune) called Polebridge. There's a bakery and little restaurant named, Northern Lights. Ask the park stewards about time and location. It's very good.

Best croque monsieur?

Tempo makes a very good croque monsieur.

Help Me Choose

We didn't have any problem getting a reservation at Schwa. Bring a 6 pack of Gumball and make the kitchen happy!

Danish baby back ribs

Danish ribs kind of fell out of favor with restaurant since they have an off fishy flavor. What you may want to look for is a 1 lbs and down, or 1 1/4 lbs and down pork back rib.

Grass-fed beef in Chicago?

Arnold's Farm sells grass fed beef, http://arnoldsfarm.com/ at local farmer's market. I know there's one in Oak Park this weekend. (3/7)

You have to email him to find out availability and everything is frozen.

Olive oil in big cans

I can't help you with the brand, but we buy Pomace Oil in the big can and use it for cooking.

It's inexpensive and fairly flavorless. I believe it's Italian and have seen it available at Super Tonys. Which, btw, has some great First, cold pressed, organic Italian olive oil in a liter size for $15. It's super green, cloudy, and fresh tasting. Worth checking it out.

Bringing Beer to a high end byob?

I didn't leave anything out of the post. Apparently, people bring beer for the kitchen. Like for a gift. We lucky brought what is Chef Michael's favorite beer.

Bringing Beer to a high end byob?

Schwa took my beer.

I was happy to hand it over.

Apparently, lots of customers bring beer for the kitchen. We didn't know that and fell into a happy accident.

Can I get some recommendations.

We're going to Schwa tonight for dinner.

Here is the Menu,

http://schwarestaurant.com/nine-course.htm

Schwa is a byob and I'm thinking of bringing (at least) one rose champagne, a pinot nior, and possibly some beer since I like beer.

May I please pick your brains for something light, not overbearing, and flexible.

Thanks!
