Go-Go's in South Beach
While recently on vacation in South Beach, I was tipped off by friends who live there to check out Go-Go's, an unpretentious place located next to a laundermat. I had been looking for a resto that was very health conscious with a locally-influenced and reasonably priced menu. I found it in spades. Go-Go's is an establishment that Michael Pollan could love- healthy-version empanadas, great salads and imaginative sandwiches-all made with healthy and apparently locally sourced ingredients. The clientele appeared to be primarily locals who were into this type of considered eating. I only wish that this place would open locations in New York and elsewhere!
Check out the South Beach Salad , the eggplant parm empanadas and the banana empanadas!
If anyone knows of any like establishments in SoBe, I would appreciate the same.
Cantonese (like Lee Garden in Toronto)
Thanks to all. Your great replies will go a long way towards improving American-Canadian relations! :-)
Cantonese (like Lee Garden in Toronto)
My wife and I have visited friends in Toronto the last few summers. Each time, our Canadian friends took us to a great Chinese (Cantonese,I think) restaurant called Lee Garden.
We will be entertaining our Canadian friends (and a few Canadian friends of theirs) in New York in December. Probably 8+ persons. We are looking for a rootsy, Chowhoundish-nothing fancy-but real good and authentic cuisine at a reasonable price...family style service etc. Chinatown would be great.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
Spaghetti Alla Ricchi in Rome
Thaks to all. Now I know that it is spelled "Ricci"!
What do sushi bars in Rome do for uni? :-)
Chowhound rocks!
Venice Fot Three days for the Biennale
Many thanks to all!
I hope I can reciprocate someday to inquiries about New York or coastal Delmarva in the USA.
Venice Fot Three days for the Biennale
Any recommendations of small seafood/vegetarian -friendly Chowhoundish, slow foodish restos in Venice for next month will be greatly appreciated.
Spaghetti Alla Ricchi in Rome
A few years ago, my wife and stumbled into a little trattoria in Palermo, Sicily and enjoyed super spaghetti all ricchi ( sea urchin). We would love to try the same in Rome. Any help will be appreciated.
Rome-One Week
My wife and I will be in Rome for one week next month. This will be my wife's first time ever in Rome and , in my case, not in the last 30 plus years.
We enjoy small, relatively inexpensive restaurants of the slow food, Chowhound variety.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Chowhound rocks!!
Fresh Pasta?
Da Andrea on West 13th (5th-6th) has great and very reasonably priced fresh homemade pasta!
Keste Pizza on Bleecker
If you want to start a food argument with a New Yorker, bring up the subject of Pizza.
Simply put, I have now been to Keste twice-IMHO,it rocks in every category!!
Good storefront restaurant in Greenwich Village
While I have never found the owner to be rude(just effusively outgoing),the food there is just OK. I would recomend Da Andrea, great ,reasonably priced Italian cuisine in a nice setting with a friendly staff. It is located on West 13th,between 5th and ^th across from the Quad movie theater. Another option would be Malatesta on Christopher St. ,near Washington St-again great Italian, etc.
Cafe de Bruxelles-an old friend
Always good ! Start with the Endive Salad. Share an order of Moules/Frites (its huge!) and finish up with a slice of the Belgian Chocolate Cake. Don't forget to try one of their great selection of Belgian beers as well.
Martinique Sugar Cane Syrup
Could you provide a specific address please ? many thanks.
Martinique Sugar Cane Syrup
Does anyone know where I can buy this in New York. It is used for making 'tit Punch, a popular drink in the French West Indies.
Patisserie Claude "under new management"
What a relief !!!!
The world's very best pain au chocolate ! I am optimistic that Pablo will keep up the high standards. He worked side by side with Claude for many years.
Whoever first notices the re-opening, please post the same.
Four Days in October in Montreal

Calvin Trillin Food Walk
Does anyone know the 35 stops made by Mr. Trillin and his cohorts ?
South Beach-Pain au Chocolat
Please recommend the best place to get fresh pain au chocolat and croissants in the morning in South Beach. Thanks!
South Beach -Help!!!
My wife and I will be visiting South Beach for a week in March and will have a car. We live part of the time in Greenwich Village and like to frequent small, moderately priced restaurants, especially ethnic places. While we do not eat meat or poultry, everything else goes.
Any recommendations will be appreciated.
Good Indian catering needed for memorial reception (reasonably-priced)
My condolences. Try Lassi on Greenwich Ave ,near 10th.
Madeleine on 23rd btw 7th and 6th ave
The best in the world, IMHO, are at Pierre Herme in Paris. How do these compare ?
DiFebo's lost its touch or just a "bad" night? Review.
I live near Bethany and used to frequent DiFebo's. I echo the comments of the other posters-mediocre food and worse service. In Bethany, try Sedona or Blue Coast-each has great food, good service and, unlike DiFebo's, no attitude !
Weeping for a Good Croissant
I have been to France at least 25 times and visit Paris at least twice a year. While in Paris, I visit Gerard Mulot, Poilaine, Kayser, etc for pain au chocolat.
When in New York ,where I live part-time in the Village, CLAUDE RULES !!!! Case closed !
