Restaurant near American Girl place for tomorrow!

Thanks for the tips of the parking and directions. I am really looking forward to going tomorrow. This might even be better than getting your dolls hair done at American Girl place :) I will save the Italian grocer suggestion for the next time I am in the area as I am fairly sure my husband will not be up to that much shopping in one day.

Fox & Obel looks fantastic! Thanks for the recommendation I will definitely be doing some shopping there. I recently moved to the Midwest so I really have no clue what Chicago has to offer.

Restaurant near American Girl place for tomorrow!

I am running down to Chicago tomorrow and wanted to get some recommendations for lunch near American Girl place. Also is there a good Italian grocer anywhere nearby? I only live a few hours away so I can bring a cooler to bring back some things.

Sorry for the late request and appreciate any suggestions. I prefer something Italian, Tapas or just generally fantastic, prefer to avoid Asian.

Thanks

Sunday Supper specials in Milwaukee

I recently moved to Milwaukee and was wondering if any restaurants offered Sunday supper specials. In Phoenix a number of better restaurants ran a deal on Sundays for a pre set three or four course meal for a a great price. I love trying new restaurants and this has been a fantastic way for me to try some great places I normally would not have gotten to.

Thanks!

Reception for a food-obsessed bride in Cleveland

I am not in Cleveland but I had my wedding lunch at Maggiano's in Phoenix. This was not my first choice but it could not have come off better. To this day guests still rave about the food, the room was beautiful so all we had to do was put floral centerpieces on the table and since the meal was served family style it forced guests to speak to each other (many did not know each other). We had 50 guests and served wine with the meal as well as had a champagne toast (tip the wait staff well prior to the reception and you will find your booze bill goes WAY down). It was quite reasonably priced and not formal yet certainly not casual as the room was just ornate and lovely.

Good luck!

Moving to Milwaukee need suggestions on where to shop for food

I currently shop at a nearby Mexican grocer for much of my produce and have been very pleased with it and the prices are a substantial savings over other grocery stores. Thanks for the suggestions!

Moving to Milwaukee need suggestions on where to shop for food

I am moving to Milwaukee next month and need some advice on where to shop for high quality groceries. Where to get the best vegetables, is there a great local butcher, what stores carry a great cheese selection, who has the best bread etc. I will be living near St Francis but I am willing to drive.

I do a lot of cooking at home and having lived in cities like NY and DC in the past I am a bit spoiled with great shops. I realize of course that Milwaukee is a smaller city but I bet there are a ton of great places I do not know about there.

Thanks

Brenda

How are you economizing this holiday season? Please share your tips.

I am not inviting people who have histories of being sponges. If you show up empty handed year after year you are not coming to my house for the holidays. Planning menus in advance and buying items as I see them on sale is a big help. Also spreads out the cost so it is not such a big hit at once. I will be baking less but in my anti-mooch sentiment not providing baked goods for those who don't reciprocate in some way.

Have you seen the Pioneer Woman Cookbook? What do you think?

She is not a gourmet and does not pretend to be one. She is a home cook that uses short cuts at times but does offer some solid fresh recipes as well. I read her blog from time to time and enjoy her beautiful photographs and her storytelling. I don't see myself buying her cookbook because the recipes are basic it is her photography that makes her blog special in my eyes.

What is Your Favorite Non-Foodie Thanksgiving Dish?

Ambrosia, no coconut! Mini marshmallows, sour cream, canned pineapple, mandarin oranges mixed together and refrigerated for flavors to meld. When we were children it was served with canned mixed fruit cocktail but somewhere it got omitted and is much tastier without.

Where to eat during Restaurant Week 2009? (PHX)

The husband and I went to Bourbon Steak last night. While the food was quite good the service was lacking. I think it was because we were ordering from the discount menu. I was a little annoyed but my husband reminded me for the price it was worth the lesser service.

Milwaukee and Oshkosh trip need advice

Thanks for some excellent suggestions! Definitely will hit the Public Market and Three Brothers. I am a bit concerned about the Oshkosh end of our trip but maybe I will but some picnic type foods and bring them with us. Of course there is always Culver's in a pinch but I am sure we can do much better.

Milwaukee and Oshkosh trip need advice

My husband and I are making a trip to WI this week and would love to get some dining suggestions. We will have 3 days in Milwaukee and 4 in Oshkosh. We would love both bargain chow and a few more expensive options. We live out in Phoenix but are East coast transplants, we want to experience some local specialties. Tuesday and Wednesday will be in Milwaukee followed by Oshkosh until Sunday morning back to Milwaukee until Tuesday morning.

Thanks!
