Saturday breakfast on King btwn Bathurst and Spadina

fusaro's kitchen on spadina between king and queen is good. they have a modified eggs benedict with rosti on the bottom and tomato sauce on top that's really good...not sure how the quality has held up since last i went though.

Susur cooking at Madeline's this weekend?

Sounds Madeline's was the right choice...I'd trade 'fantastic gnocchi' for 'dried out sashimi' any day. Apparently the 19 item slaw is Lee's signature dish (according to the servers), so you could try that dish any day...the good news is that the bad sashimi doesn't normally come with the 19 item slaw.

I'd be interested to know how was Madeline's CNY menu...all around goodness?

Susur cooking at Madeline's this weekend?

we tried the cny menu last night, it was so-so/good but not great...their famous 19 item slaw was the winner, but the sashimi that came with the dish looked a little dry (doesn't have that nice glistening sheen to the fish), the pork was flavorful, but competed with the heavy butter taste of the potato rosti thing on the bottom...we each had a couple of drinks, shared a bottle of wine between 4 people and the bill came to $100/person.

Good Veg options with meat for me?

Utopia Cafe and Grill on College has great meat and veg burger options and drool-worthy sweet potato fries. I can't say it's anymore quiet than Pizzeria Libretto tho. Cute joint.

Hidden away, independent cafes, worth making a special trip to visit.

The Common at College West definitely comes to mind. I've only been a couple of times but the coffee is amazing, freshly baked muffins were oh so yummy and they even have a few slightly more hearty food options. Great place for chatting with a friend.

Thoughts on my food itinery (so far)?

Whew, got a few reservations in...here's what the trip's looking like so far:

Fri: $38 pre-theatre menu at Anthos, then dessert at Chickalicious

Sat: lunch at JG, dinner at dell'anima (hey if I can't have babbo, his former chef and sommelier will have to do), looking for RECs for drinks and dessert...any ideas?

Sun: brunch at 202 then try our luck at the Ssam bar!

I'm really looking forward to this now, would love to hear must eats at any of these places too :)

Will do! Hopefully we'll get a spot at the Ssam bar on a holiday weekend, heard they don't take reso's...

Does anyone know why I've been getting the busy tone at Babbo's reso phone line? It's been a couple of days and it's still down...are they still in business?

Hi NY CH's,

I'm visiting from Toronto next week for a (window) shopping and eating trip with the girls and was wondering what seasoned NY foodies thought of my picks so far?

Lunch at Jean Georges, brunch at 202 cafe, dinner at Babbo, dell'anima and Momokofu noodle house, dessert at Chickalicious.

Our back ups are: Fatty crab, Market table, and Anthos.

Thanks!!

PS: We're staying at W 45th & Ave of the Americas, any good food around there? Recs for a breakfast/early lunch place would be awesome, as are places for drinks and dessert?

Mildred's temple kitchen?

I was also one of the unfortunate ones who went to Temple Kitchen on a Saturday expecting brunch, only to find out that they only serve it on Sundays from 10-3. Boo...We stayed anyways, had a squid salad - very light and citrusy almost, loved the green apple and cucumbers in it; the gundi was also good, the fried sage on top was the highlight; and the pork dish (last item on the lunch menu) was replaced by with a pork belly...that was ok, gotta say, the pork belly at Foxley was far superior - tasted like it wasn't braised/cooked long enough. Oh to finish off, the profiteroles were great, the chocolate ice-cream in the middle was decadent, perfect for sharing. Loved the atmosphere, very trendy and chic.

Pure Spirits for oysters? Good, bad, meh?

I'm in total agreement with all the replies so far, food at the distillery suck. Love walking around it though. Haven't been to Pure Spirits, but was just at their neighbours, Tappos...overpriced and food was beyond mediocre.

Starfish is awesome, great oysters, great food, great atmosphere. Oyster Boy has great oysters but last I went, their entrees were only ok.

Best Eggs Benny in T.O

I love bennies and I second Blue Stone Bistro for theirs. Seems to have gone downhill slightly since 2 years ago, but I'd still go there for their eggs florentine anytime (bennie + rosti + smoked salmon). Another killer item is the breakfast skillet...comes to the table sizzling. btw its on 7 between kennedy & warden, hidden in the back of a non nondescript strip mall.

New Poutine Chain above Burrito Boys

They were definitely NOT opened at noon yesterday. I was there with a few other die hards and we waited in the cold for some yummy poutine - ended up getting burrito boyz instead. Apparently there was a guy inside but didn't let us in, as we were waiting for our orders at BB, a few people kept running upstairs to check if they were opened. Grrrr...

Good-Bye Dominion, Hello METRO

Wow, thanks for the bagel tip. I was going to avoid the new metro brand b/c of the $$ increases. I've been meaning to go to Fiesta Farms too, my friend brought some of their oh sooo yummy frozen croissants to the cottage. umm.....croissants.
