NYC Restaurant advice needed for trip w/ 10 yo, but staying at Andaz or Ritz BP

Thanks for the great tip, and yes you've got me pegged correctly. Though originally a jersey girl whose mom grew up on the LES, so this will be such a neat trip.

Tuscan or Neapolitan, we love both. We like any neighborhoods with charm so I supposed not. although its always fun to compare our north end, federal hill and little Italy nyc

NYC Restaurant advice needed for trip w/ 10 yo, but staying at Andaz or Ritz BP

Hi all-
I am heading into NYC Friday am for a last minute trip with my 10 yo daughter, who is well-behaved and loves food. Real food, not kids food, though not crazy adventurous. Having done Times Square and Upper Manhattan, we're staying either at the Ritz BP or the Andaz to do Ellis Island, Tenement Museum, probably the Childrens Museum of the Arts, 9/11 Memorial and walking across the Brooklyn Bridge too. Would love to know some good breakfast, lunch and dinner spots we can duck into or sneak a last minute rez at. We both love italian so if you've got any good classic italian in little italy that would be fun too. Happy to take reasonable cab rides; cost isn't a big factor. We have chinatown ice cream factory, stellina, francois payard as possible dessert places. We both love sweets, chocolate, and cupcakes so will take recommendations there too.

thanks all!

Plea for an app

Oh how wonderful it would be if you had an app. Sigh...

More Scottsdale advice

Hi all-
Heading back to wonderful scottsdale again. This time I have four dinners, one solo and the rest with my DH. Was in Scottsdale last year solo for three nights: ate in hotel first night (so exhausted!) az wine co second night (didn't love it as much as I thought, but loved the company and conversation at the bar) and Los sombreros third night. Mediocre, but maybe bc they messed up my order. I had actually gone into mission that night and saddled up to the bar but was invisible as a solo guest. Literally sat for 10 mins was ignored. I should add I was dressed nice and am a fit, attractive and stylish 40ish woman.

When i was reading last year i remember hearing about Rancho Pinot but haven't read much searching posts this year so wondering how people are feeling about it. I want food I can only get in AZ, Mexican, SW, or otherwise really unbelievably delicious. No french, Asian or Italian please. Doesnt have to be fancy or expensive (although price isnt a consideration at all). Good atmosphere to relax and have fun away from my lovely little ones.

I just need a short list--all the other posts are too overwhelming. I love food but will only likely have one daytime meal out, and thats after I land I will head straight to scratch like I did last year.

Thanks for your help!

First time traveler to san diego in need of help

Hello all-
I am travelling to SD with my kids (who actually appreciate good real food, not just chicken nuggets and pizza like most kids), grandparents, cousins etc. We will do the usual legloand, sea world and Zoo and do some general exploring. I would love suggestions for restaurants around those areas, in downtown and old town, and mission bay. we're staying at the mission bay hyatt. happy holidays to all!

Needham's Dining Scene

Had dinner at Spiga the other night. The authentic charm is gone, and now everything's just a little too overdone and fussy-- not as good at all.

Cafe Spasso has delicious, high quality gelato.

Don't miss Stone Hearth Pizza. This is not your average pizza joint with iceberg lettuce salads. SHP supports lots of local farms, the food is fresh and absolutely delicious. There's monthly salad and pizza specials that capitalize on the best of the season.

And last but by no means least, is the best little gem in Needham, the Rice Barn. I eat there/do take out frequently and think their food is terrific, always beautifully presented and so far above your average Thai place. Don't let the name fool you; this place is no barn. It's sophisticated yet comfortable. Great for a romantic dinner or a night out with your girlfriends. Nice wine list too. Also had a shower there for 40 people this weekend. Both owners, who are sisters and lovely women who really know what they're doing, were present to ensure everything went so far beyond my expectations. The food, presentation and service were great--not an empty water glass to be found the whole time. Everyone loved it, and I highly recommend it for a meal, catering or a party.

lunch in newton

Definitely Citrio. Across from Baker's Best. Smaller, not as much of a scene. Much smaller menu but high quality and consistently delicious. Also has take away and a great place to indulge in desserts. And did I mention sweet potato chips?

Best Hummus in MA?

So I would HIGHLY recommend hummus from Breadwinners at Fresh Start bakery (935 Main St Walpole). George makes authentic fresh, no preservatives hummus daily. It can be puchased at the bakery and for sure at Barry's Village Deli in Newton and when it re-opens in the spring Volante Farm in Needham. Don't know where else carries it, but if you call the bakery and ask for George, he will find a way to get it to you.

Need someplace great for the office party

I am helping organize a holiday office dinner of 12 people interested in really great food. It needs to be someplace people wouldn't go every day, but at the same time non-pretentious and a little unassuming. We're in the Boston/Metrowest (including Waltham) area. I need help. Cost isn't a huge factor. We'd love a private room, but it's not totally necessary. We're just having a hard time finding the right kind of place and am looking for chowhound recommendations. Thanks!
