I've seen comments that the best Indian restaurants are in the South Bay and I'm up for taking a trip down there from SF to try one. Looking for a place that does both meat and veg; downscale is fine; either serves beer or allows byob. Suggestions? Thanks! |

Help me find a place for dinner on Sunday in SF with my mother. her requirements are: "Casual yummy not too loud." I live in Dogpatch; she'll be driving up the western side of the city (280 to 19th Ave.), so neighborhood is kind of open but ample parking necessary. would love a hidden gem--taken her to all my old neighborhood standbys. would love suggestions of new places to try. thanks for any assistance. |

Help! Need to find Lyle's Golden Syrup or another brand of cane syrup for Thanksgiving recipe so funny--I searched for "Lyle's" rather than Lyles and that old thread didn't pop up. I actually found it at the British Grocery at 15 and Potrero. ----- |

Help! Need to find Lyle's Golden Syrup or another brand of cane syrup for Thanksgiving recipe Rainbow is sold out; Whole Foods doesn't carry it. I know I can make something that will substitute in, but I'd like the taste of cane syrup if possible. any suggestions? |

good date restaurants for vegan/vegetarian and carnivore? thanks, I checked that thread out--just seeing if there are newer places or other suggestions when the occasion is "date" rather than "family". |

good date restaurants for vegan/vegetarian and carnivore? gracias madre is pretty much the textbook definition of a vegan restaurant I blanch at, but thanks for the suggestion. |

|
good date restaurants for vegan/vegetarian and carnivore? any suggestions for good date restaurants in San Francisco where one party is vegan or vegetarian and the other is very much not? I blanch at most vegetarian or vegan restaurants but I don't want to suggest a place with just one vegan option that's basically "roasted vegetables on plate." |

Good kitchenware stores for range of pepper mills? thanks. I'm definitely looking to buy a nice one though that'll last forever. I have an idea of the couple of different brands I'm looking at, and I'm wondering if there is a store that'll have a couple of them to try out. |

Good kitchenware stores for range of pepper mills? I'm looking to buy my dad a pepper mill for Christmas, and I want to be able to try out the candidates before either buying one or ordering one. I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the best store or stores in the Bay Area to try a range of peppermills out. I'm coming into the city from Santa Rosa this weekend. I'm looking at the Unicorn Magnum and the keytop one, the Peugeot line, the Zassenhaus, and the Atlas. Any ideas? |

San Francisco Dinner Tonight--Healthy, No Waiting I'm coming down from Santa Rosa tonight to have a quick dinner in the city with a friend who works near Union Square. We're looking for a place that will be relatively quick without a reservation, but will offer some healthy options (we both eat meat, just looking for some veggies and something lower in calories). Informal is fine, just looking for good food fast. In terms of location, I'll have my car, but she'll have to get dropped off at BART afterwards. Any thoughts? Thanks! |

Birthday Dinner--Like Lupa, but not Lupa I'm looking for a place to get dinner on my birthday with a smallish group--4-6, tops. I am hoping to find a place that's like Lupa in terms of fantastic food for about that price range, preferably downtown, but isn't Lupa, for the sake of variety, if nothing else. It doesn't have to be Italian, but I do prefer European or American rather than Asian. (And I know Lupa isn't universally beloved, but I love it, perhaps because I've uniformly good experiences.) thanks for any recs. |

Post-softball dinner/drinks on UWS for Thurs My work softball team has a game in Central Park on Thursday--we usually go out for a cheap, boozy post-game meal, but this is the first time we're on the Great Lawn. I think UWS is better than UES, train-wise, for most people, so around 86 & Columbus would be ideal--too far from the game and we lose people. I looked at Jackson Hole, but $5/beer isn't great for this crowd, if there's a decent alternative. When we've played uptown in the past, we've done the Cottage & V&T's around Columbia, and the Piper's Kilt in Inwood, so that's about the range we're looking at--simple but good food. Thanks for any suggestions. |

I'm looking for good, authentic, cheap Mexican, either catered or close enough to Spring and 6th to easily pick up for an office party. the perfect place would be like Taqueria Y Fonda (at 107 and Amsterdam) only a few blocks away. price is definitely an issue (office = nonprofit). thanks! |
