Best Biscuit and Gravy

My Supervisor likes Biscuits and Gravy. Today is his birthday. Where are the best in the LA area? SFV and LA, West Side and Santa Monica and environs is OK.

He kinda has to do it as a dinner thing..maybe.

Food for the Sick?

I am sick. My head feels like someone filled it full of wet sand-every possible cavity. My throat hurts and my chest is tight. I am exhausted, and I have to be at work, cause, well, its WORK. Wimps call in sick.

Anyhow, My husband has been made aware that he's letting me go to town at Menchie's (by the way, a new one is opening soon in Sherman Oaks on Ventura), but where do we go for an "I'm sick, dammit" dinner before?

Chanpon at Kyushu?

SFV alert-Regional Mexican in No.Hollywood

The house I made an offer on is right near there...I hope they stay open! It will be my go-to Mexican place

My Mom thanked me for cooking T day dinner with a $50 Surfas card...

What on earth do I spend it on? I bake, cook, eat (well, obviously), like gadgets and such.

What would you get?

Soft ginger cookies?

We want to get our boss his favorite cookies for his Bday in december. What bakery makes the best soft ginger, sorta spicy cookies?

"The Exact Opposite of Thanksgiving" ?

hmm, a good thought. Where are good hot dog, sausage places?

"The Exact Opposite of Thanksgiving" ?

Good thought, but I have a shellfish allergy! I went to Anisette once, right after it opened. IT wasn't too impressive. Sooo tight, and such poor service. And lots of salt. Good alcoholic beverages, though.

"The Exact Opposite of Thanksgiving" ?

So, my husband says this weekend, we have to go out for "the exact Opposite Of Thanksgiving".

Here are ways we have thought we could figure out just what that is.

1. Someone else MUST cook (I do Thanksgiving all from scratch)

2. It can't be a typical American Thanksgiving or close kind of meal. So, it could be breakfast, or exotic food, or hamburgers, or something.

3. It should not be super expensive.

4. It has to be lighter than thanksgiving, at least in flavor.

5. Perhaps it should be from a people who are known for being bitter, or resentful, or do not like Americans all that much

6. Or it could be Native American or English (you know, escape English and ruin the life of a tribe is sort of what Pilgrims did.

So, we have thought of a few things:

Breakfast from a diner

Brunch

Chinese of some sort

Cheap sushi or izakaya

Israeli food

Korean (not bbq, cause you gotta do it yourself)

BBQ

Afghani Food

Muslim food (combine two and find Chinese Islamic)

Russian Food

Ethiopian Food

Indian food.

Any more ideas?

Epicure Imports Warehouse Sale

Of course, the quality at Epicure is way better.

Nice, big, bad for you desserts in Santa Barbara. Later in the night.

That sounds just crazy!

What types of pancakes doe they serve? Do they serve cake, too? Are there chocolate chip pancakes?

Also, to get away from IHOP, have you had the Fondue at Anderson's (I saw this online) and are their desserts of substantial size? I really want good, but kinda big.

What about this El PAseo someone told me about.

Also, ever heard of INtermezzo?

Nice, big, bad for you desserts in Santa Barbara. Later in the night.

Thank you for a wonderful answer. Actually, The IHOP and Anderson's sounds pretty good. My husband also says the IHOP has a tree growing out of it. What does that mean? Is it a literal FIG TREE?! A real tree? He won't tell me.

I would love the montecito cafe, too....and Downey's

They all sound grand.

Any good HUGE Mexican desserts?

Nice, big, bad for you desserts in Santa Barbara. Later in the night.

My husband is taking me up to his hometown of Santa Barbara to visit the in-laws. Really, we are going to eat large spiny lobsters this weekend somewhere.

Before dinner, we will visit a few in town wine rooms.

Afterwards, I want a really big and very bad for me desserts. Maybe with a milkshake, too. I love the big rich chocolate cake at Jerry's Famous Deli in LA, or big pieces of apple pie.

Where can I get a really big, but really good, dessert in my husband's home town, preferably later in the evening?

If it is BETTER than Jerry's, well, that's good too.

Vietnamese sandwich Studio City or Vicinity?

there is a place on Reseda I think. My sister likes it. Sandwich Express?

Old-Fashioned Milk Shake

they freak me out when they dance and sing, and isn't it a "chain"?

Old-Fashioned Milk Shake

What is UBE? Fosselman's looks good!

Old-Fashioned Milk Shake

Sorry, I hate pecans! Do they have others?

Old-Fashioned Milk Shake

I've been to two Jerry's Famous Deli, and their milkshakes are thin, and I never got the metal cup. I like Milkshakes with thick, thick ice cream (maybe with malt) and the metal cup of the rest of it in, especially when there is a lot in there.

I had one at Panns, and it was thin.

I want an old fashioned milkshake, Like I remember. Where can I find it?

I live in Van Nuys, but I can drive.

Ciudad?

I have a 10% off coupon from Whole Foods. Should I go?
