Going to be in Cabo 2 weeks in January. I love to prepare fresh fish. Any advice as to where to buy the best fish? Markets, docks, etc.....

Thank you for your input.

Cabo San Lucas/Southern Baja/Todo Santos/La Paz

Going to be in Cabo for the first time in January with my gf. We both like to cook especially fresh seafood of all types. We will be based out of cabo but will have a car and plan to go to Todo Santos and La Paz. Any input on places to buy fresh seafood and good produce? Also, any fun and simple hole in the wall local joints that two old foodies may like? We are not into fancy...

Upper Valley VT/NH Roundup...Hanover, Norwich, Lebanon et al

Thai Garden was turned down? What a loss for Hanover. The Keene, Northampton and Brattleboro locations are very good. Would have fit in quite well.

Recos needed for Indian Rocks Beach area

Went to Salt Rock last week. Food was disappointing and pricey. Waiters were quite obviously wigged out on some sort of substance and not very helpful at all. Ask specifics about some of the dishes and received vague answers and was directed to an expensive steak which in ordered. It was not good at all.

Cuban Sandwichs In Tampa Area

Thank you very much for the input. Three of us went to Arco Iris with big appetites at lunch time. Had the caldo gallego, cuban sandwiches, fried yucca, sangria, plantains, cuban coffe and flan. The soup was quite special. Waddled out happy. Want to return for dinner during the week. Thinking of trying fish, lamb and/or beef dinners.

Thank you again.

Jacksonville trip end of JAN

Sliders Grille in Neptune Beach is usually good. I go there for oysters and such.....and decent draft beer. There is a decent place not far from the NAS that is a seafood market with a patio restaurant attached. Down by the shrimp boats. Palm Valley Fish Camp near Ponte Vedra Beach is a great place for lunch.

Restaurant Recommendations in Downtown Montreal

I second Ferreira for downtown. Cafe Sardine for drinks on the Plateau area. Right next to Lawrence on the Plateau-Mile end border. I highly recommend that you go to Dieu du Ciel at 29 Ave Lauier Ouest for an ale. Best brewpub in Montreal if not the world. A few blocks from Lawrence and Cafe Sardine. If you walk to Old Montreal definitely check out Chinatown which is nearby. Try one of the Pho shops on St. Laurent to warm up.

If you are up that way, Lawrence is quite nice for dinner but reservationas are usually needed. I have heard that they have a very good Sunday brunch too.

Montreal foodie visiting Portland/Portsmouth in July - reco's needed

As a New England foodie who visits Montreal I would say that you should not miss Jumpin Jays Fish Cafe in Portsmouth. Nothing like it on Montreal. If you want lobster, head down 1A to Rye Beach and grab dinner at Petey's. Owned by locals and is right across the street from the beach for a nice after dinner walk. Nothing fancy, but a good lobster joint.

St. Pete

Island Grill in Tierre Verde has a great oyster happy hour. Agave in St. Pete Beach is really good Mexican. Family owned and food is very fresh. Good mole sauce and fish tacos that should not be missed. Waltz's Fish Shack at St. johns Pass has the best seafood around.

Indian Shores Area

Going to be there end of January. Looking for local hole in the wall places and decent ethnic food. May be asking a lot given that this is a tourist area but we will have a car. Local seafood and oysters would be great. We will have a kitchen and grill so finding a good fish market would be nice. Any oyster happy hours around too? Any input is appreciated.

Oysters in St. Pete area

Now that I have tried the oysters at Billy's, I can report that Island Grille is best by far. It's oyster are served freshly shucked to order rather than shucked in advance and covered with ice like Billy's. Happy hour is 4-6.

Peking Duck in Montreal

I would not advise that you do your holiday dinner at Mon Nan. The Peking Duck was just ok, although the other things we ordered were good. However, the service was terrible. They just ran out and threw food at us and scooped away things off the table while we were eating. Very rushed and unpleasant. Never bothered to come back with water or drink refills. I was sorry that we went here for Thanksgiving dinner. The duck was just leftover sliced roast duck. Nothing at all special. We did, however, dine at the Le Cristal Chinois at 998 St. Laurent (6th floor) and had a great experience. High end place. Food was very good and service was impeccable. A pleasant.experience overall. We wished that we had TK dinner there. If you are up in the Mile end neighborhood, I would suggest that you try Lawrence on the corner of St. Laurent and Fairmont, next to Sardine. Loved it.

Montreal restaurant recommendations......

When I was growing up I never imagined that Hobokon, NJ would be what it is now. There are so many urban neighborhoods across Canada and the US that have developed in new and interesting ways. As one that grew up in an ethnically diverse area of the US, I find the Plateau and now the Verdun neighborhood to be to be culturally rich and worthwhile to visit. Montreal is fortunate to be developing the way it is now.Not to mention the food.......
