SF Bakery Tour
I don't believe anyone's mentioned Arizmendi Bakery yet, but in my opinion it's worth a visit. Also, extremely transit-accessible (via the N Judah line).

Boccalone at Ferry Building -- Opening Tomorrow (6/18)
Not that this will surprise anyone, but a Boccalone mixed salumi platter, an epi baguette from Acme, some Mt. Tam from Cowgirl Creamery, and peaches from Frog Hollow made an excellent taking-advantage-of-the-heat-wave picnic at the beach this past Friday.
Portland with two (reasonably adventurous) kids
Hi,
We're a family of San Francisco 'hounds visiting Portland this weekend, with children aged 8 and 3 in tow. They're pretty flexible about what they're willing to eat, but obviously some restaurants aren't going to be appropriate for even a well-behaved three-year-old. Any tips on places we ought not to miss, especially those serving local Portland cuisine or other things less readily available in the San Francisco area? We're staying in the Marriott downtown, but are quite willing to walk or use transit.
As mentioned, we could especially use tips on places which are, if not actively child-friendly, at least restaurants where a child would not be clearly unwelcome (and in some cases, a child would be fine at lunch but less so at dinner). We've got a good intuition for that sort of thing in the Bay Area, but are obviously quite unfamiliar with the Portland restaurant scene.
Thanks for any information you can provide! From what I've read on this board, it appears that Pok Pok, at least, should definitely be on our list.
Lunch spots around the Embarcadero (other than Ferry Building)?
Wow, thanks to everyone for all the responses! It appears that this thread will be an extraordinarily useful resource. If anyone wants any reciprocal answers about lunch spots in Redwood City/Menlo Park, just let me know.
Lunch spots around the Embarcadero (other than Ferry Building)?
I've recently accepted a new job at a location near the intersection of Broadway and the Embarcadero (I'd previously been working on the Peninsula). I imagine I'll be spending a fair amount of time walking down to the Ferry Building for lunch, but what else should I check out in that area? I'll be taking MUNI to work, so walking or bus-ing distance would be good. Looking more for casual places to eat with co-workers (or take-out) rather than "business lunch"-type places to take clients.
Tips on restaurants with a toddler
I've always found Park Chow (on 9th near Lincoln in the Inner Sunset) to be pretty kid-friendly; there are always lots of families in there, and it's noisy enough that a restless toddler wouldn't cause a huge commotion.
Is NOPA Kid Friendly?
Depends on the kids involved, but if their 2-year-old is anything like our almost-2-year-old, I'd say probably not.
If it's Saturday, it must be Cauliflower
I've never had that particular pizza, but I recently roasted a cauliflower for the first time and it taught me a new appreciation for the vegetable.
IKEA-East Palo Alto
You might want to try Backayard ( http://www.backayard.net ). It's one exit north on 101, and within your mentioned 3-mile radius.
Best CHEAP Food in the South Bay??
If you like South Indian food at all, give Dasaprakash in Santa Clara a try: http://www.dasaprakash.com/
Family Friendly in SF?
I'll give another vote to Park Chow - our daughter's 6, and it's been her favorite restaurant since she was 2. It's more than a "wee bit" away from the Embarcadero, although it is right off the N-Judah.
Authentic Bun Cha in bay area?
You can indeed find bun cha of the type discussed at Loi's: it's on the menu as "Bun Cha Ha Noi". Quite tasty.
