Calgary - Rouge or Capo

That is a very bad experience. I'm surprised as I have always had great service and food there. In fact your experience is so far from mine at Sugo that it seems like a different restaurant. I'll give a review next time I'm there.

Sushi Hibiki

In the past we would go to Cafe de Tokyo. More for the price than the fish as I recall. But now Sushi Hibiki is in the same location. Anyone been lately?? Generally we go to Sushi Club or Zipang and stay away from all of them on 4th St.

Calgary Fish and Chips?

Price? Is that important? ;-) $12-$15 I think. Where'sOhishi Village?

Good Calgary restaurant for staff Christmas party?

We had a great one Murreitas last year. Don't know the cost, but the oysters and lamb chops were to die for.

Calgary Fish and Chips?

We had lunch at Red Door Bistro last week and the fish and chips was fantastic. Miles better than something like Joey's Only, Boyds or Halibut House. It is a real restaurant with a chef after all. It was a house made tartare sauce with loads of big chunks of caper, pickle, boiled egg and generous fresh herbs. The chips fresh from potatoes and tasted of potato, not dirty fryer. The Halibut was moist and coated with a light, very crispy Beck's beers batter and a couple chunks of the ever popular Fleur de Sal. A nice touch that worked. My partner had a beer made on site.

I wasn't expecting much, but was totallly pleased. The waiter said that they've been changing the concept and menu lately. I'll be going back.

Dinner in Calgary with 2 kids Sat Nov 8th

Palomino is a great Idea. My kids love it as it's a bit of an adventure. You can eat with hands. The food is great, even if most of it needs a bit of salt. easy enough to fix I say. And when you leave you'll smell like apple wood smoke.

Parker House Review

Seems like two different restaurants. Typical for a new opening. I'm still excited to go....in a month or so.

Where do you get great eggs in Calgary??

Thanks for the kind welcome. I've been lurking for some time and thought I'd say something today.

I didn't even think about ostrich or quail eggs. I think there may be a themed meal with those two some how.

Vancouver eating trip - recs needed

We've always enjoyed West and C. Tojo's was amazing, but falls into the sushi department. Last time in Vancouver we went to Fuel and Salt. Both were great in different ways.

Calgary - Rouge or Capo

Sugo is honest, uncomplicated Italian food and the price is right. I feel that many restaurants in Calgary are charging over their ability to deliver. Sugo delivers more than the prices they charge IMHO. The room looks like so many chef owner bistro/small restaurants that one finds. Simple, unfussy decor with local art on the walls. And they have a great (quality and quantity) scotch and grappa selection.

YYC breakfast spots

Ya those are the places. Regency is huge and buzzy. FF is a hole in the wall. I love both.

Oysters in Calgary

I think you found the best in town. BF and RD both get the oysters from the same supplier. I understand they are flown into Calgary 3 times per week. Fresh is always best and a bit hit and miss here on the prairies.

YYC breakfast spots

What about DimSum? Try Fortune Foods on Center street north or the huge restaurant on the upper level of Dragon City Mall in China Town.

Where do you get great eggs in Calgary??

I usually buy chicken eggs at Second to none Meats on 4th and they are great, but it's a bit out of the way for me. I've tried Sunworks eggs from Calgary Farmer's market, but they tasted like fish one time and put me off. I've heard good things about Lina's .

What I want is big yolks with some colour (not pasty Safeway eggs), free range and organic would be a bonus. Oh, and taste of course is important too. Also where can you get other eggs; duck, goose, gull (had them in London, but never seen them in Canada)? Thanks for the help.

FARM (Calgary)

Same here, slingshotz. Our server did say that they have plans to make in-house charcuterie. I hope this is true. It leaves the questions: Who's the chef? Where did he/she learn the charcuterie arts?

Calgary - Rouge or Capo

Rouge in the summer in the garden is hard to beat. I love Sugo too. We've always been treatd so well at lunch, must try for dinner one day.....

Nose to tail Vancouver

Last time I was at Salt we ordred bull's tongue from the British Butchers. It was fabulous. I don't think that Salt is embracing the Nose to Tail philosophy ala St John, but they do a bit of offal.
