Group dining in State College

We will be there both Friday and Saturday nights, the first weekend in November. The group consists of adults and 10 - 15 year old kids. We are staying at the Atherton, would like to stay in town.

Group dining in State College

We are a group of about twenty, kids and adults visiting State College. We need a fun, good place to eat that will take reservations for about 8:00 p.m. on a weekend night. The kids are adventurous, will eat other than chicken fingers. The adults would like a good dinner with a nice beer selection. Any recommendations?

Pho Minh or Tram's Kitchen?

Tram's. But it is not "infamous", check the word in your dictionary!

Morning Coffee By Trevi or Piazza Venezia

The best coffee in all of Italy, is San Eustachio. Piazza San Eustachio. Not sure if you consider this the "usual suspect".

Food Network show looking for your favorite outrageous food

At nicky's Thai kitchen we had a Thai ice ice crane sundae, which was chocolate ice cream on a hot dog bun with sweet rice.

Salem's Grill - Strip District

I went for lunch, got a vegetable curry which was delicious and inexpensive. We also had spinach pies, a friend got the lamb curry which he devoured. They also tossed in a piece of baklava which was so rich that 3 of us shared it. Prices are great and the place is squeaky clean.

Fried Fish - Pittsburgh (ish)

Max's Allegheny Tavern in the Northside has a great fish sandwich as does Cupka's in the Southside.

Pittsburgh puzzler...

My favorite place for lunch is in Beechview. Check out Davio's http://www.davio.com/
It is quiet, relaxing and the food is fresh and outstanding.

Banh Mi in Pittsburgh?

There used to be a street vendor in the strip who made Banh Mi. I haven't been there in a while so I haven't seen her.

Dinette, Pgh

I have lived in Pittsburgh all of my life and have never heard of Eastside! Dinette is smack dab in the middle of East Liberty!

Traveling from Pittsburgh to Nemacolin Woods

You could stop at Glisan's on Rt. 40 but you would almost be at Nemacolin. They have the best bread/rolls as well as pies. It is a smallish diner type of place.

Great restos for biz din in P'Burgh??

I'm surprised that no one recommends The Common Plea anymore, has it gone downhill? It was a good business dinner restaurant.

LA Hounds see Pitt: what's to eat?

You won't find too many high priced eateries around Pitt or CMU, most students can't afford it. There are good ethnic food trucks around the area. Sri's serves a mostly vegetarian indian menu at their truck near CMU. It is good and cheap! Spice Island tea house, located nearer to Pitt, has very good Thai and Pacific Rim food.
For fries and beer, you can't miss the Original Hotdog, (also known as the dirty "O"). They have the best fries in the area, fried in peanut oil. A small portion will serve 2-3 people. It get packed at 2:00 a.m. after the bars close.

have you read any good food books lately?

I just finished reading Heat by Bill Buford. It was very interesting and sometimes funny.
I thought the The Seasoning of a Chef: My Journey from Diner to Ducasse and beyond by Doug and Michael Psaltis was an even better read.

Philadelphia with kids

I'm taking our family, with 4 kids (3 teenaged boys and a 6 year old girl) to Phila. Has anyone have any suggestions for my big eaters on a smaller budget? The boys definitly want to try a cheesesteak for lunch one day.
