And the award for the worst food at a Christmas party goes to.... Well I am not sure how this is this going to turn out, our office cocktail reception is this Thursday and being that I used to Cater and I now work part time cooking at my friends restaurant I have been “elected” to prepare the food for the reception (5.30-7.30). I tried to back out, but no such luck…I must keep things simple and it will be nibble food, it is a cocktail reception after all. Here is the menu … I am not sure if this is going to fall in the worse category, I sure hope not! Remember I am under tight budget restraints Bermuda Fish Chowder (which is a given, husband is fisherman and Bermudian) |

Need some "Dive/Neighborhood" Bar Recommendations This Bermuda hound is lucky enough to visit New York restaurants twice this year! It will be a short but yet tasteful trip (I hope tasteful) 2 ½ days, so of course we will try our best to fit it all in. Staying on Mulberry (near the neighborhoods we like to hang in so with that said here are our some choices… DAY 1 DAY 2 Half day Just a nibble - Sweet Revenge for some wine and cupcakes! (Not too much a necessity unless NY Hounds say otherwise) There are a couple of “Dives/Neighborhood" places but not sure about them, some feedback would help BIG TIME! 169 Bar PS…Still waiting to go with 4 to other friends so we can go to Ma Peche and get the BEEF 7 WAYS! Have you been to Tribe Road Kitchen yet?? What are you waiting for? It is an eclectic place, very much artisanal food, everything is prepared fresh, and nothing sits around. In the mornings you can find homemade cinnamon buns, banana bread, vanilla cream cheese pound cake, fresh scones (sometimes its peaches and buttermilk, or vanilla strawberry with white chocolate, possibilities are endless) maple bacon donuts, coffee cakes, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, best coffee on the island, cappuccinos, espresso…I could go on for hours. Lunch sandwiches change daily, some include homemade pastrami, homemade brisket, house smoked chicken, fresh Bermuda Fish, vegetarian options and so much more, at Tribe Road they are NOT afraid of FLAVOR… Pumpkin Spiced Waffles topped with maple syrup, whipped maple butter and a side of bacon. Yes, it was REAL Maple syrup! Tour De France – Foleys Smoked Salmon served with all the favorites, peppered cream cheese, capers, house pickled red onions, egg and some peppery arugula on the side, what more is needed? OH, they topped the arugula with some truffle oil, just a bit not too much! Is that too much? Low Rider – Now you could taste the love in this dish…Fresh Black beans (no canned crap here) served with hash brown potatoes, jack cheese, a soft poached egg, topped with fresh salsa and crispy tortilla. Did I mention that the TRK has a chef’s garden and that is where most of the herbs come from…included the jalapenos for the salsa! ABLT – Avocado, Apple wood smoked bacon, beefsteak tomato and arugula served on ciabatta roll with caramelized onion mayo…a BLT with a little something extra! Before making the venture to Tribe Road Kitchen….Be forewarned if you to go to a place in Bermuda that is fun, funky, friendly with scrumptious fresh food with flava prepared by people who love what they do and have a good time doing it, this might not be the place for you. But if you are begging for a place like that in Bermuda….it’s HERE! |

Welcome back.... I recently had a pizza from Tio's - hate to say it...pretty good pizza - for Bermuda standards If you do venture into town one night try Bolero! Had dinner there about 2 weeks ago and it was amazing. If you are staying an apartment, why not get some snacky stuff from a grocery store / or a couple fish sandys from Freeport or Woordy's and have your own little picnic on a beach. BDA$ is always at par with the UDS$ when you are an American coming to Bermuda, we accept the us dollar as we would our own currency...different when a Bermudain exchanges BDA$ to USD$ |

Cooking For Our Four Legged Friends... Remember the dog food recall awhile back, well we almost lost our two beloved babies....Diva and Van, Diva is a yellow labomutt mix rescued from a garbage bin and Van is Black English lab, a gift from my boss. (Full names for both Diva Sunshine and Van Ace Boy Halen) Diva started to lose her hair on her backside and got extremely sick, Van also started to lose his hair. Well after several visits to the vets, Diva had to have a major operation to remove 9 gallstones from her gallbladder after that we decided no more commercial food. We have been making their food ever since! We pretty much have it to a science now… Chicken, brown rice, veggies, apples …sometimes I will mix in some eggs or fish instead of chicken, veggies range from spinach, peas, carrots or kale. I could never go back to feeding commercial food, not after almost losing my Diva. Even with the high cost of food I find if I I purchase when items are on sale and stock up the cost is cheaper than commercial food. The Vet has praised the turn around and he said they have never been healthier, matter of fact Diva is 12 and runs around like she is 2!! And Van….well he’s just VAN. |

I have yet to dine at French Laundry, however a chef friend of mine did and stated it was amazing! He also opted for the additional Truffles ! |
