tacos por favor - olympic and 14th... great carne asada and al pastor... their tacos are good and their burritos are great... salsa roja is second only to king taco, but king taco is a bit far to drive to from santa monica during a lunch break. |

OCEAN PARK PIZZA..formerly GARY'S GRILL pizza is better down the street at abbot's and the slice.. burgers are still good.. no french fries and baked buffalo wings due to no deep fryer... |
|

GARY'S GRILL on Ocean Park is now Ocean Park Pizza i know u posted this like half a year ago but the burgers are good - pizza is.. well with the slice and abbot's pizza right down the street, just go to one of the other joints instead. they no longer have a deep fryer either - so no french fries and i don't even want to try baked buffalo wings |

Sicilian Pizza, you're breakin' my heart... Somebody had mentioned that Pizzarito in MDR had closed - they are now back open and still as good as ever. Now I don't have to deal with westwood parking just to get a great slice of pie (Lamonicas) |

There are no truly authentic Buffalo wings in California. Someone mentioned buffalo wings n things in culver city - i have to say these are the worst wings i have ever had and i will never go back. you might want to try q's in west la on wilshire... they have pretty tasty wings.. also buffalo wild wings out east by the 15... havent been to that location but i've been to a location in vegas and they are pretty good.. there's also a pizza by the slice spot called the slice, and i havent had their bone-in wings but the boneless ones r good there.. yankee doodles and barney's on 3rd st promenade in santa monica will definately do in a pinch - which is weird cuz q's and barney's are owned by the same people yet the wings at q's are so much better... also, for making them at home, emeril has a really good wing sauce out... its a little expensive but very good! |

Taqueria Chihuahua On Venice Blvd. Now Open! name of the place? |

Taqueria Chihuahua On Venice Blvd. Now Open! I tried Taqueria Chihuahua earlier this week because I never got to try the old location and had been waiting for them to re-open... i could still smell the paint and noticed there was no salsa bar. I had 1 al pastor and 1 carne asada taco... the al pastor was good, the carne asada was ok. No bits of meat that I had to spit out like i encountered at el super taco last week. it was nothing spectacular, but definately good enough that I will give them another shot in a few weeks, hopefully by then the grill will be seasoned and they will have a salsa bar... however, this being said, i had tacos por favor today and would take them instead any day... |

Taco madness, Part One: El Taurino, King Taco, Tacos Por Favor i have since given tacos por favor another chance, and they are back in my good list... not king taco/el taurino by any means, but definately a great westside burrito |

A Johnnie's Pastrami Update ... i recently had johnnie's and it was as good as ever... |
|

Taco madness, Part One: El Taurino, King Taco, Tacos Por Favor i as well tried tacos por favor in search of a westside king taco/el taurino... but tacos por favor was a little dissapointing... from the tough overcooked beef to the salsa that wouldnt be bad if not for that sweet taste it opens up with.. i *might* give them another chance, however they are far from being a king taco/el taurino.. damnit when will one open up over on the westside!!! |

u know, last time in vegas i actually stayed at casino royale which is where outback is located, and wanted to try a burger from there but never got around to it. i will definately try it next time. can't go wrong with burger bar... its a little pricey (i think burgers start at around $10) but well worth it |

The Counter in Santa Monica is Absolutely GROSS don't hate me for ressurecting an ancient thread but i came across this and had to post... i work near the counter, and while i certainly would not call it gross, it is definately far from the best burger i've had... i would rather go to gary's grill (now known as ocean park pizza - not sure if the burgers are the same) less than a block away, pay less, and taste more. |

Ronnie's Diner - A Neighborhood Joint (if your neighborhood is Marina Del Rey/Venice/Culver City) i used to think ronnie's was ok... cathy's cafe that was located where ronnie's is now was really good, but they closed about 6 months before direct tv opened up across the street. anyways, my latest trip to ronnie's, last week, ordered a couple bacon chedder cheese burgers which usually you cant go wrong... but this time the patty was premade frozen crap.. and not cheap either.. extremely dissapointed... when called in to report got no offer of some sort of discount only wishes that we will return.. |

burger bar, period. |

islands is my favorite... i do want to try houston's california burger some day as i hear thats really good.. and i just read the previous posters comment about fatburger... and u know... i used to love fatburger and had 1 just today for the first time in over a year, and was dissappointed that they got rid of the "on the char" option and my bun was also on the stale side... and to top it off, they have significantly raised their prices from a year ago.. |

King Taco: what's in that sauce?!!?! [moved from Los Angeles board] so i called king taco to get nutri info... no luck! |

Garlic Fries: Getting the garlic to stick when making garlic fries I'm trying to make garlic fries and found a recipe that simply says to make your fries, then toss them in a bowl with sauteed garlic and salt. However when I do this the garlic just falls to the bottom and won't stick to the fries. I've had it out at a cafe and there were big chunks of garlic stuck to the fries and I want to duplicate this. Anybody got any ideas? |

King Taco: what's in that sauce?!!?! [moved from Los Angeles board] yes, please share your recipe... king taco/el taurino red sauce is very addicting! |

does anybody know exactly what that raw garlic stuff is on the table? it looks like minced garlic with something green? anybody? - nevermind - the recipe is on their website... its a garlic relish |

Taco madness, Part One: El Taurino, King Taco, Tacos Por Favor its kinda like that today... its more like u get yur drink in the same first line that you pay for your food... then you go down the line and the chef makes either yur taco, yur burrito, or wutever you ordered, but you dont go to a different line depending wut you ordered. its been like this for at least 3 years, so i'm assuming you havent been in quite some time.. sounds like they've improved it since youve been... it does get mad busy after bars/clubs let out but the food you get is piping hot and tastes great! |
|
|
i went for the first time recently and although not exceptional, it definately wasnt dissapointing. i had the filet mignon, bagna calda, and a few other things. there is this raw garlic stuff on the table for your bread which is great, but next time i will wait until my entre comes so i can actually taste it haha |
|
|
i agree that its not a favorite, but i will be back. the raw garlic stuff on the table for the bread is great, but i think thats the reason the rest of the food is so bland - next time i will wait until after my entre to have the raw garlic concoction with bread.. |
|
|
yah i only ate their once but i'd go back. i've read so many negative reviews but the filet mignon, bagna calda, the fresh bread, and whatever that raw garlic concoction they have sitting at yur table are all great. i do hate valet, and yah, they mite be a tad overpriced, but i liked at least the dishes i tried |

Taco madness, Part One: El Taurino, King Taco, Tacos Por Favor Yes, El Taurino and King Taco are great - and here's something you may not have known, but they are owned by the same people, this is why their sauces and food are the same (you can go to www.kingtaco.com and find el taurino's location - you can also look up who registered their respective domain names, and its the same person). Although, el taurino is open later, at least compared to the king taco at pico/alvarado, but king taco is more generous with their red sauce.... either way its a winner. I wish the people over at king taco would start bottling that red sauce, i'd buy a case at a time! great place to go for lunch, dinner, after bar/club, actually... anytime! my personal fav is the pura carne asada burrito, but their tacos are great and so is the al pastor. |
