BUT WAIT!!!! Call now and we'll send you.......... Real-life experiences buying stuff from infomercials
My father, who hasn't cooked a thing in his life, bought a Snack Master in the late 80s/early 90s.
My sister and I were so excited to make the apple pies. We were pretty bummed when we realized that it tasted like toast with canned apple pie filling. Which is exactly what it was. But boy did they make it look exciting on TV!
The eggs were not good. They always came out brown and burnt on the bottom. The pizza pockets were OK.
Spice Kitchen, new Indian restaurant in Trooper, PA
Not sure if he has reviewed the three places you mentioned, but FalafelBoy has written some great and detailed reviews of many of the Indian restaurants in the area. Click on his name and check them out!
The login screen is non-standard and doesn't fill in fields automatically
In firefox, instead of clicking on "login" open it in a new tab. After you enter the username and password once, firefox will ask if you want in to remember your login info. Next time you are not automatically logged in, just open "login" in a new tab and the fields will automatically be populated.
Choose a board keeps collapsing
I typically view Chowhound in firefox. When I noticed this issue yesterday, I tried using Internet Explorer and my saved boards were expanded, not collapsed. I also went to Chowhound on a different computer, via firefox, and everything was fine. It made me think that the issue was with my computer, not with Chowhound. That's when I guessed that clearing the cookies might help. Are you sure you got them all? Maybe try clearing your cache.
Choose a board keeps collapsing
I noticed the same issue today. Logging out, deleting any cookies from chow.com, and then logging back in seems to have solved my problem.
Airport run Sunday 8:30am. Italian market/gourmet shops: anything open?
Sarcone's is open. Bring some good bread home. It freezes well.
Guarana Antarctica
Yeah, that's a bit of a hike, but thanks for the idea. Anybody familiar with the mexican grocery stores on 9th street below Washington or in Norristown or anywhere else locally konw anything about this?
Guarana Antarctica
Does anybody know where I can find cases or 6 packs of Guarana Antarctica Brazilian Soda? I'm not far from King of Prussia, but I am willing to travel to Philadelphia if necessary.
Thanks!
Bachelorette dinner recs in Inner Harbor/Fells Point/Canton area?
Chefdilettante - I've been to Pazo and loved it, but I think the food there is a little fancier than what I think the bride is looking for. Thank you for your recommendation though.
1000yregg - Thanks for the tip. I'm going to check it out.
Anybody else have any advice?

Bachelorette dinner recs in Inner Harbor/Fells Point/Canton area?
Philly hound here, in search of a fun, casual place for a bachelorette party dinner for 20+ ladies. We're trying not to break the bank here, so I need some moderately-priced ideas.
Thanks!
Hand Sliced Smoked Salmon
I must be lucky. Every time I have ever gone to his counter, he was there.
Hand Sliced Smoked Salmon
I'm pretty sure $50 is WAY above market price. I would guess its down around $30/lb.
Restaurants / PA LCB / distributors – how does this work?
Correct me if I am wrong, but restaurants/bars do NOT pay the same as the rest of us. They get a small discount. I'm not sure exactly how much. 5%? 10%?
Mystery BBQ restaurant
kash
I was trying to remember that BBQ place too while getting psyched for next weekend, but for the life of me, i cant remember the name. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Percy St., because I don't think they existed back then. Also, although the price was cheap, I don't think it included a beer and I think it might have been $3. Perhaps you or someone you were with got the cute girl discount?
How to get to Reading Terminal Market from 30th Street Station?
Regional Rail is the way to go. Free!
Told off for taking photos at Blue Hill [moved from Manhattan board]
Yes, but there are a lot more jackasses (and jackass-ettes) out there than Jfoods. I would put the figure at around 20 to 1.
Carrot Cake
He used to sell his carrot cakes in the Lancaster Farmers Market in Wayne. I haven't seen him there in a while though. I think that bakery stand sells his cakes his cakes.
Anyone know where to find red jalapenos?
Saw them at Acme in Paoli this weekend. They were in a plastic container next to the loose jalapenos and long hots.
Stores for craft beer and nice wine?
I know of people who have been busted bringing cigarettes back from DE to PA. Granted, they did have a lot more than a carton or two.
Just saying that it does happen...
Rocco's Steaks in Paoli
I too am extremely happy that they opened up. It breaks my heart to buy some of the bread that the supermarkets put out and I am more than willing to travel a few extra minutes to go to Carangi. I highly recommend the Italian Wedding soup also. Big thanks to the folks in this thread who brought Carangi to my attention.
Still haven't made it to Rocco's yet. Wonder what they do on Monday when Carangi is closed?
Do you drink Wawa coffee?
I'm addicted to Wawa french vanilla creamer. You could put that in ANY coffee and it would be good.
Rocco's Steaks in Paoli
Thanks to everyone who has replied. I think I will give them a month or two to work out the kinks before I try it.
Rocco's Steaks in Paoli
I just noticed that a drive through cheesesteak place opened on Lancaster Ave in Paoli. I think its the location of the former Polish Water Ice place. Has anyone tried it?
Attention Philly hounds! Car-less visiting L.A. Chowhound needs to know-- Where is the best Philly Cheesesteak available by SEPTA (subway and W2 lines)
I'm going to have to agree with Mikerichi on this one. Get off the train at Market East, hit DiNic's in the Reading Terminal for your roast pork with provolone and broccoli rabe, then continue to Ricks for your cheesesteak. Although I haven't been to Rick's since they relocated, I've been unimpressed with Jim's in the past. FYI Rick's is in the basement of the Bellevue Hotel which is on the corner of Broad and Walnut. You don't have to worry about sketchy neighborhoods following this plan, and you can walk to Suburban Station (16th and JFK) to catch the R2 to Richboro.
Good luck!
Etiquette - forgot to BbackmyOB
I know I'm about to get into a niche discussion that is probably best suited for a different board on chowhound, so apologies in advance...
What I'm about to write could be considered blasphemous in many circles, but I am not a big fan of the 120 Minute IPA. In my mind, I had pictured it as the holy grail, and it took me some time to get over the price hurdle. When I finally tasted it, I found it to be too thick, and the flavor had almost a cough medicine-like quality. The pleasant flavor change you get when you go from the 60 minute to the 90 minute is not the same as when you go from 90 to 120. Plus, you can get 4 90s for less then it costs for 1 bottle of 120.
That being said, if you can afford to give away 120 minute IPAs to your friends at parties, more power to you!
