I know the food snobs won't like it, but I think Bread & Cie has a very good rye bread - and their seedy baguette is as good as anything I had in France.

Churros con Chocolate
We went there on Saturday - there were too few churros but the chocolate was sensational - thanks. Also had the lamb gazuela and my wife had the squash tostada which were both very good. We will go back.

Is Extraordinary Desserts worth it?
Four of us went to Extraordinary Desserts for an after theater bite. We ordered cupcakes and danish. All the food was tasteless, dry and very poor quality. Is this normal or were we just unlucky? With the prices they charge we expected much more.

as a transplanted easterner there is no good jewish deli in san diego - but the best deli i've had here is at 4.0 deli at sdsu - their sandwiches are all very good and reasonable...

Mountain Mike's San Diego
We had pizza at the new Mountain Mike's in San Carlos and found it to be very good. The pizza will appeal to anybody from the mid-west. It was thick and crispy dough with a lot of cheese. The pepperoni was excellent with a nice bite to it. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

My wife and I just had dinner at D. Z. Akins - We had the worst sandwiches in history. By the time she trimmed the gross fat from the pastrami there was less than one ounce of meat left. The waitress said we should have paid extra for lean meat - that should not have been necessary. We will not be returning.

Red Velvet Cake/Cupcakes in San Diego?
The best, and very reasonable, desserts in the area are to be found at San Diego Desserts on El Cajon Blvd, one block west of College. i have never had a bad piece of cake there. They are now doing great lunch and dinner. Their red velvet is unlike any other around.

4.0 Deli near SDSU has great sandwiches at a very reasonable price - the only negative is the names - you may have to talk hip-hop to order.
World Famous in San Diego
World Famous in Pacific Beach used to be one of our favorite restaurants - the last two times there have been very disappointing - poor food and mediocre service. Any similar experiences or comments?
