In-law visit

My father-in-law is visiting from Chicago in October and wants to treat us to dinner. Any suggestions in Cambridge? Their favorite restaurant in Chicago is Le Colonial (French-Vietnamese fusion) so was considering Blue Ginger in Wellesley but that looks (a) pricey and (b) gets mixed reviews. Made a reservation at Ten Tables but wondering about other places. Thoughts?

Dinner with father-in-law and aunt

Ariadne is now C. Tsar's? I think it's still the same owner.

Dinner with father-in-law and aunt

My father-in-law and his sister, both in their 70s, will be visiting us at Thanksgiving. We are looking for a place for a nice dinner on Wednesday night, not too pricey, able to accommodate 10 people including a 5 year-old, preferably with valet parking, not too far from Newton but still in an interesting area (his sister has never been to Boston). We are going to Mamma Maria on Friday so want to avoid doing Italian, their tastes in food and decor are "conventional" so have ruled out funkier places like East Coast Grill--any suggestions?

New to the Neighborhood: West Newton/Moody Street

I heartily recommend Mi Tierra in Waltham on Moody St., great latin food, really nice people--and they also serve breakfast. Also in Waltham, we love Little India on Moody Street and Taqueria el Amigo on Willow. Coconut Cafe in Newton Centre is pretty good Thai food, Shogun in W. Newton is good sushi.

Where to eat in Waltham or Newton

Francesca's in Nonantum is an old-school, family Italian place -- nothing fancy, pretty good food, homey atmosphere.

21st birthday dinner

My daughter is turning 21 this month and we plan to take her and a couple of her friends out to dinner. Any suggestions for a nice, festive place with fun drinks for a newly legal college kid that is not too expensive in the Boston-Cambridge area?

Panna cotta

I just discovered my new favorite dessert over the weekend at an Italian dinner--panna cotta! Any suggestions of where to get some good versions in the Boston metro area, particularly around Newton?
