veg poutine in toronto
I just tried Poutini's veg poutine for the first time on the weekend. I thought the gravy was great but fries could be more crispy.

Kale Vegan Restaurant on Yonge St, near Eglinton...any reviews?
isn't it a pay-by-weight type of place? i'd just go and check it out and pick what looks good.
Help - Restaurants that can accomodate vegans downtown (Scotiabank Theatre)
i would go to Queen Mother or Hosu like the others suggested. Wouldn't really go to Ematei as it's an authentic Japanese place and a lot of the sauces and pretty much all soups would have Bonito in it. IMO you can probably find a few items for vegetarians but not vegans. Queen Mother or Hosu probably get enough people asking for vegan food that they'd know exactly what to do.

HELP!! - Need Recs Near Markham and Ellesmere TONIGHT
how about Federick (on ellesmere, west of markham)? or Indian Spice Kitchen (on markham, south of ellesmere)?
iso spot near Markham and Ellesmere
1530 Markham Rd is not exactly markham/ellesmere. it is at markham/milner. The Real McCoy or Roti Hut are both about 2 km away so its not exactly a quick walk.
There is a coffee times right across the street on Markham rd. If you go across the street on Milner, there is a Shoeless Joe and a Golden Griddle. if you walk to sheppard (about .5 km) there is Markham Station (greasy diner type food), subway, KFC, a chinese restaurant and a carribean restaurant.
Do i recommend any of these places? no but they're definitely walking distance.
Inexpensive Wedding Venue... Toronto Area
check out granite brewery. it won't be BBQ but they do have an outdoor space. check their site as they have group prices on their website - the listed price is under $50 for buffet dinner and open bar so it works for your budget.
downtown toronto vegetarian ??
There are so many great places downtown!
- if you want the nicest veg restaurant, Fressen is your best bet.
- For salads, macro bowls and smoothies, check out Fresh.
- For the best sandwich, go to Urban Herbivore.
- If you want the best food, trek down to Calico.
- For great non-leafy salad and soup, go to Hibiscus (lunch only)
there are so many more. if you have something specific in mind, let me know!
What excellent, gift-worthy, Ontario foodstuffs (not restaurant food, CSAs, or veggie boxes) do you order by phone or Internet to have shipped?
I've gifted Taste of the Month from Shay Cheese. They have great stuff!
flax seeds in toronto
they definitely have it at every loblaws/superstore i've been in. check in the health food section for bob's red mill brand. ground flaxseed is in white package where as flaxseeds are in clear packages.
they should also have it at bulk barn.

have you seen this?

hope that helps.
Indian food in Scarborough
- Tandoori Pearl at McCowan/Nugget: i haven't been in a while but i remember they had a great thali (?) plate at lunch time
- Silver Spoon at Sheppard/McCowan: this place was recomended by a coworker of mine. i thought the food tasted okay but was WAY too spicy for me.
- Samosa King at Finch/Middlefield - awesome samosas and they have a variety of takeout items
mcewan?
i agree. the shell is too thick. i tries raspberry and passion fruit...they were probably the worse macarons i've ever had in Toronto. The taste is okay but the texture is completely off. I have no problem with paying $2 each but they sucked as macarons.
The mini cupcakes on the other hand were delightful! they were made by mcewan.
The best make your own salad spots?
i like going to Whole Foods and Longo's. They both have pretty good salad bars. I don't mind Freshii at all but i heard it varies depending on location.
Any places near Urban Herbivore to get wine/beer?
urban herbivore is a sandwich place. they also have soup (i think) baked goods like muffins etc. if u are going for dinner, go early as they are not open till very late.
there are quite a few bars around urban herbivore. That being said, urban herbivore is more of a lunch spot and i'd go to Fressen for dinner instead.
Scarborough/Markham: Steeles & Vic Park reco's
the firkin is definitely your best bet in that area. they have a really nice rooftop patio so if the weather is good, go up there!
There is also a montana's at steeles and don mills and a kelsey's at warden and steeles. you won't find much more than chain restaurants around that area.
Sanyo rice cookers
i cant remember the model # but based on an amazon.com search, mine looks like ECJ-D55S.
i bought it because of the great reviews but i do find that it takes longer to make rice compared to my previous rice cooker (which was a tiger brand one.) i think it takes about an hour for regular setting and at least 45 minutes for the "quick" mode. i believe my mom has a zojirushi one and it takes like 30 minutes to make rice. i could be wrong though!
thats really my only complaint. otherwise, its great!
Place for a Small Wedding Reception?
I think Quince is a great suggestion. Food is amazing.
Another place you can check is Matignon just behind the manulife center. They have very resonably priced group menu ($29.95 prix fixe).

Taishanese & Taiwanese in TO?
what type of taiwanese food are you looking for? there are a few spots in Toronto but my recommendation would depend on what you want to eat.
Casual but nice breakfast place in Scarborough or Pickering
what about sunset grill? i haven't been but there is one in ajax and i heard its okay. Another place you can try is the Delta hotel at Kennedy/401. I haven't been there in ages but the menu looks ok.

In search of the best Barbeque/Rib Sauce.
i must've gotten a bad bottle as i kept mine in the fridge.
In search of the best Barbeque/Rib Sauce.
actually, i do have a rant about my bottle of buster rhino sauce. bought and opened it about 2 weeks ago and its already gone bad. not sure if i'd open another bottle unless i knew i was going to use it all in one shot.
In search of the best Barbeque/Rib Sauce.
I LOVE buster rhino's sauces. There are 3 kinds. If you dont want to travel to Whitby (even though its worth the drive) I THINK you might be able to get them at Costco. You would need to confirm with them about this.
any good restos anywhere in south Scar close to guildwood?
I liked the schnitzel from Little Bavaria as well. I think the grease level depends on which one you order as there are so many different sauces etc.
any good restos anywhere in south Scar close to guildwood?
Did you have the rotisserie chicken? or the grilled one? I tried the grilled one with Piri Piri sauce and it was quite tasty. That being said, the sandwiches are probably much more impressive than the chicken. My fiance went back with a few of his coworkers and they ordered one of each of the sandwiches to share and they all loved it as well.
Dinner close to Yonge and Dundas
2nd this!
also, beer bistro is another option. there is also a couple of restaurants on Elm Street, they all look pretty good but I've only been to Barberian.
